Acceptance Committment Therapy, Positive Psychology, and the Development of Mental Toughness
Mental Toughness is strongly correlated with lower levels of perceived stress, fewer depressive symptoms, lower levels of anxiety, and higher overall psychological well-being. Mental toughness is a multidimensional personality trait that is trainable. However, despite its positive attributes and potential applications, mental toughness remains primarily associated with elite athletes and competition and is not readily accessible nor applied to the average person or their daily lives. This paper aims to review the current research and conceptualizations of mental toughness, redefine mental toughness as a life skill, and outline a twelve-week mental toughness development program called the strong body stronger mind program. The literature review found that there are currently two dominant conceptualizations of mental toughness today, the Jones et al.'s model and the 4C model. After reviewing the models and current research, nine attributes of mental toughness were identified as common to both models and critical to developing a successful program. The stronger body stronger mind program was developed by combining the strength-based approach of positive psychology and the action-orientated behavioural focus of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a framework upon which to teach the skills required to develop the identified attributes of mental toughness
The Relationship Between Social Media and Body Image in Adult Women: Implications for Counselling Practice
Social media is a significant component in the lives of people across generations. In this paper, social media refers to online applications (APPs) or websites that allow users to share personal content, seek information, and engage with one another. Some social media platforms include Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat. In the past, traditional media and social media platforms showcased individuals meeting thin body ideals (Jiotsa et al., 2021). Social media platforms have expanded to include a wide range of body types and shifted towards inclusivity and a culture of body positivity (Hynnä & Kyrölä., 2019). With many adults accessing social media, it is prudent to understand how it may impact the way older individuals view themselves and their behaviour. Reports show that 97.9% of Canadian individuals aged 15–24 own a smartphone, with over half using their phone every 30 minutes, and these numbers are stable as people age (Statistics Canada, 2018). Research surrounding the effects of social media can help uncover who is prone to the possible negative implications of social media use and what steps to take toward education and prevention. The main objective of this research is to uncover the relationship between social media and the body image of adult women and what action mental health professionals can take to minimize the negative consequences of media use. I hope to address the following research questions: How does social media influence adult women's body image and perception of self, and what interventions can be implemented to support and educate adults using social media to prevent negative consequences

Mental Health Impacts of Social Experiences for Adults With Autism Spectrum Disorder
This paper is a critical analysis of the current available research to understand how social experiences impact mental health for adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It includes five qualitative, four quantitative, and two mixed-methods studies in which the researchers discuss the interactions between social relationships and mental health from the firsthand perspectives of adults with ASD. There is a need to investigate how the core deficit in the social domain of autism inherently impacts mental health and to understand how to support these individuals with it. The qualitative results from this review identified the current themes connected to mental health and ASD: social difficulties, the use of camouflaging behaviours, and difficulties with identity. The results suggest more negative than positive impacts on mental health. The quantitative results further show that adults with ASD face many social challenges that are statistically significant and impact mental health. The findings of this paper reveal the impacts of ASD on the daily interactions and environments of adults. Last, the author provides information and makes recommendations for practical application within clinical settings and for future research
