Movement filtered heart rate variability (HRV) data from a chest-worn sensor

    Get PDF
Recording of heart rate variability (HRV) is a noninvasive and continuous measurement method that allows investigating the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and its reaction to environmental influences. For a precise measurement of HRV data, a carefully chosen study design and environment is required to minimize secondary influences. One major influence to be avoided is movement. However, in the daily routine and for some scientific questions, movement can often not be avoided. If so, a manual or automated method to differentiate between artifacts caused by body movement and the actual psychophysiological effect is needed to ensure the data quality. In this approach, a chest-worn sensor was developed, that measures the heart rate using a single lead ECG and filters the measured change of the HRV caused by movement. Data from an integrated accelerometer is used to detect upper body movements that affect the resting heart rate. The movement-corresponding time stamps are then used to filter the Interbeat Intervals (IBI) accordingly. Functionality and effectiveness of the sensor system have been tested against state-of-the art sports- or clinical devices in varying scenarios. As our test series showed, motion filtering has a decisive effect when motion occurs, two-thirds of all cases showed a significant effect of motion filtering, with small to medium effect sizes for the parameters SD2, SD2/SD1, and SDNN. Thereby, automatic filtering of motion artifacts can help to significantly reduce the need for costly post-processing of distorted data sets. The results show a better data quality of HRV measurement, a method that is commonly used for the investigation of physiological processes in the field of chronic pain, psychology, psychiatry, or sports medicine

Social media as a platform for non-profit organisations : analysis and concept for the Philipp-Lahm-Stiftung

    Get PDF
This thesis analyses the Facebook performance of different non-profit organisations that engage in sports and education and some in projects in Africa. The strengths and weaknesses of these performances are analysed in order to develop a concept for a Facebook page for the “Philipp Lahm-Stiftung”. The aim is to show how the Facebook page of a non-profit organisation can be made interesting for a defined audience and how a Facebook page can have an added value for its users compared to the classical website. Further recommendations are given concerning the structure of the page and how the page administrator should behave towards the users of the page. Thereby, the aspects of monitoring and law will be highlighted

Towards the Detection of Building Occupancy with Synthetic Environmental Data

    No full text
Information about room-level occupancy is crucial to many building-related tasks, such as building automation or energy performance simulation. Current occupancy detection literature focuses on data-driven methods, but is mostly based on small case studies with few rooms. The necessity to collect room-specific data for each room of interest impedes applicability of machine learning, especially data-intensive deep learning approaches, in practice. To derive accurate predictions from less data, we suggest knowledge transfer from synthetic data. In this paper, we conduct an experiment with data from a CO2 sensor in an office room, and additional synthetic data obtained from a simulation. Our contribution includes (a) a simulation method for CO2 dynamics under randomized occupant behavior, (b) a proof of concept for knowledge transfer from simulated CO2 data, and (c) an outline of future research implications. From our results, we can conclude that the transfer approach can effectively reduce the required amount of data for model training

Ursachen von Missing Dots im Tiefdruck

    Get PDF
