    Prognose der Trittschalldämmung von Balkonen

    No full text

Challenges and Solutions to Integrate Remote Laboratories in a Cross-University Network

    No full text
Location-independent networking of laboratory infrastructures is opening new possibilities for teaching and learning. In order to make full use of the possibilities it makes sense to form associations and use real, partly digitized and fully digital laboratories shared across locations. The connection of different laboratories with different equipment and different conditions confronts us with technical challenges. This article presents challenges, which are faced in an international project, as well as possible technical solutions and the way to our decision

    No full text

THE SPATIAL DATA INFRASTRUCTURE OF AN URBAN DIGITAL TWIN IN THE BUILDING ENERGY DOMAIN USING OGC STANDARDS

    No full text
Abstract. As the world has more urbanized, cities need to assess and manage their building energy performances in order to achieve energy-reduction goals. The urban digital twins (UDT) offer promising solutions to this demand by providing valuable insights with qualitative and quantitative information about the building environment. The urban building energy data is not only measured from the equipped sensor devices but can also be simulated based on the analysis software. In this research, we aim to explore the development of the spatial data infrastructure (SDI) for managing building energy in the UDT application by employing the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards which increases the data usability and efficiency. In our concept SDI, the big data in the UDT application is managed with the OGC specifications as follows: OGC SensorThings API (STA) for data with Spatio-temporal characteristics, OGC API 3D GeoVolumes for 3D geospatial content delivery, OGC CityGML for virtual 3D city models, OGC API Features, Web Feature Service (WFS), and Web Map Service (WMS) for other 2D geospatial contents. This concept enables broad interoperability between multiple data layers and client applications. As a proof of concept, we developed the UDT application called with a highly visual and intuitive user interface using the proposed SDI concept as a part of the EnSysLE project in the study area of three regions in Germany: Ludwigsburg, Dithmarschen, and Ilm-Kreis. The proposed concept can be expanded to other UDT domains and on a larger scale in future work

Occlusion Screening using 3D city models as a reference database for mobile AR-Applications

Creating an immersive Augmented Reality (AR) experience requires aligning the digital content with the real environment where the digital content appears and interacts in a similar way to a real object. For that, the virtual object must persist in its position across sessions and be occluded completely or partly depending on whether a real-world object is in the line of sight. This research makes use of the cutting-edge technology available in the field of AR/MR, the Microsoft HoloLens 2.0, where the in-device Time of Flight (ToF) camera is used to scan the environment to create a Spatial Map. LOD1 city model enriches the Spatial Map and in addition, is used as an occlusion mask via a custom rendering pipeline. Spatial Anchors can be tracked using the Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) used in conjunction with World Locking Tools to anchor the whole scene to the real-world coordinates. The developed occlusion effect is used in urban planning scenarios to introduce a new area design featuring a car-free environment. The proposed method is evaluated based on performance indicators including the number of Frame Per Second (FPS) since it’s highly correlated to user comfort. The findings of the users’ study demonstrate that the occlusion effect achieves its purpose since most of the participants reported enhancement in the depth perception and overall experience by enabling the occlusion screening

Einfamilienhaus?

Fundamental Organizational Aspects of Shared Lab-Networks: Trust, Business- and Maturity-Model Considerations in DigiLab4U

    No full text
Online labs form the basis of digital exchange in networks and are thus candidates for the use of shared knowledge, shared infrastructure, and shared facilities through the application of ICT technology. In addition to technical and didactic considerations, the importance of organizational considerations in this respect is increasing due to shared use. In this paper, the organizational foundations of digital sharing are highlighted, providing a long-term perspective on lab networks. To this end, three organizational aspects are addressed: (1) a platform business model for activating online lab sharing, (2) considerations on building initial and long-term trust between actors as a critical challenge of a lab sharing platform, and (3) a maturity model for capturing the organizational transformation of online labs for platform actors. Using the case study DigiLab4U, a time-limited, funded research project on online lab sharing, this paper shows how the three organizational considerations can contribute to sustainability over the funding period. The reader is thereby shown which success criteria and functional requirements are necessary for the sustainability of a lab-sharing network

Billing and Booking System for Distributed IoT Laboratories

    No full text
In the last decades, the sector of non-traditional labs (NTLs) has been really active in creating new initiatives. Also, Everything-as-a-Service (XaaS) is one of the key concepts, adapted from software business models, which is moving the product-based revenue models to service-based revenue models, characterized by the sale of fee-based services and hence periodically recurring revenues. Having these two concepts, the implementation of a billing and a booking system within a NTLs network is becoming a priority. This research has been carried out within a study of the cross-institutional project DigiLab4U, which aims at the creation of a network of NTLs. The idea behind is to combine network of laboratories and XaaS in order to make the laboratories available to stakeholders who can use the available technologies for their own purposes. To do so, a booking system is required, and a platform is required to bill the laboratory usage according with the DigiLab4U policy. The combination of these two points, lead to the exigency to select the most suitable solutions for both booking and billing systems accordingly with the requirements of the DigiLab4U network. Starting from a literature research, solutions on the market and requirements for selections have been identified. The analysis has been limited to ten solutions for the billing and four software for the booking. The requirement analysis led to two software fitting the DigiLab4U needs. These platforms have been implemented and tested with specific use cases of the DigiLab4U according to technical and organizational perspectives

    No full text
