Arsenic interstitial defect-induced gap states in LT-GaAs and the STM characterization from first-principles methods
No full textWe performed DFT calculations with advanced exchange-correlation treatments to study the
electronic properties of arsenic interstitial (Asi) in the [110]-split configuration in low
temperature GaAs (LT-GaAs) and compared them with experiments. We also calculated the
STM images of Asi in different layers of GaAs(110) to guide atomic-scale characterization.
We found that Asi expands Ga-Ga distances more than As-antisite (AsGa) expands As-As
bonds, supporting the observed Raman blue shift in annealed samples. Formation energy of
Asi is higher than AsGa in As-rich conditions, consistent with its formation during lowtemperature
annealing. Bandstructure analysis shows that Asi introduces a mid-gap donor
level matching the ~1300nm band observed by ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy
(UFTS) and a low-lying state, consistent with the band narrowing inferred from UFTS. STM
images reveal distinct contrast patterns, with the subsurface Asi showing the most prominent,
bias-insensitive spherical contrast, indicating it could be the most detectable configuration
on GaAs (110).journal articl
Fibrinogen albumin ratio: an independent recurrence factor for colorectal cancer stages II and III in a competing risk model

Objectives: Colorectal cancer remains a major global health concern. Identifying high-risk
patients is crucial for optimizing treatment strategies. The prognostic value of biomarkers,
especially considering competing risks, remains unclear. We used a competing risks model
to exclude the influence of non-cancer-related mortality and examined FAR as a predictor
of recurrence in colorectal cancer.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 359 patients with stage II or III colorectal cancer
from the cecum to the oral side of the peritoneal inversion, all of whom underwent curative
resection at Fukui University Hospital. The primary outcome was cancer recurrence.
The fibrinogen-albumin ratio (FAR) was assessed using univariate and multivariate analyses,
including competing risk models, with a cutoff value of >0.131.
Results: Univariate analysis identified factors significantly associated with poorer outcomes,
including T4 stage, gross appearance type 3/4/5 tumors, stage III disease, elevated
neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, prognostic nutritional index, carcinoembryonic antigen,
and FAR. Multivariate analysis confirmed FAR as an independent prognostic factor. A predictive
model combining FAR, stage III disease, and T4 stage demonstrated the best performance
based on Akaike information criterion and Bayesian information criterion values.
Conclusions: FAR is a robust prognostic biomarker for colorectal cancer. Incorporating FAR
into clinical practice may enable healthcare providers to more accurately stratify high-risk
patients, facilitating personalized treatment strategies.doctoral thesi
A Study on the Evaluation of Public Transportation Use and Walking Mobility During Tourism in Fukui Prefecture：－A Case Study of International Students Residing in Fukui－
Full text linkIn March 2024, the Hokuriku Shinkansen will begin operations in Fukui Prefecture, and an increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Fukui is expected. However, foreign tourists have expressed dissatisfaction with public transportation in local cities. Therefore, from the perspective of international students residing in Fukui, we calculated the correlation between public transportation use and walking mobility satisfaction during tourism in the prefecture. The results revealed that, for foreign tourists in local cities, satisfaction with each mode of public transportation during tourism is influenced by the transportation modes used before and after it. On the other hand, walking mobility satisfaction was found to be independent of satisfaction with connecting bus services. Additionally, it was shown that the impact of satisfaction with preceding and subsequent transportation modes tends to be greater than the satisfaction with the transportation mode itself.departmental bulletin pape
名詞修飾節構造の特徴から見た 英語系中級学習者の名詞修飾節構造の読みの変化
Full text link本研究では、英語系中級学習者 1 名が論文を読む過程を約半年にわたって観察し、読み誤った名詞修飾節構造についてその構造上の特徴の分析を行った。分析の結果、調査前半と比べて調査後半は読み誤った事例の修飾節が短いこと、修飾節中に読点や複数の動詞を含む事例が減少していることが示された。また、修飾節中に別の名詞修飾節構造を含むものは調査前半にしか見られなかった。これらの結果から、時間の経過とともに、読点や複数の動詞、別の名詞修飾節構造を含む長い名詞修飾節構造を正しく読めるようになっていることが示された。一方、「内の関係」「外の関係」については、分類が難しいものがあり両者の間の違いを分析することはできなかった。departmental bulletin pape
Adaptor protein 3BP2 regulates gene expression in addition to the ubiquitination and proteolytic activity of MALT1 in dectin-1–stimulated cells

Caspase recruitment domain-containing protein 9 (CARD9) is essential for the dectin-
1–induced production of cytokines through the activation of NF-κB. However, the
molecular mechanisms underlying the dectin-1–mediated activation of CARD9 have
not been fully elucidated. Recently, we reported that the adaptor protein SH3
domain-binding protein 2 (3BP2) is required for the dectin-1–induced production of
cytokines and activation of NF-κB, although the relationship between 3BP2 and CARD9
in dectin-1–mediated signaling remains unclear. Here, we report that 3BP2 is required
for dectin-1–induced expression of several genes that may contribute to antifungal
immunity in bone marrow–derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). The results of reporter
assays using HEK-293T cells indicate that 3BP2 induces CARD9-mediated activation
of NF-κB through B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 10, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue
lymphoma translocation protein 1 (MALT1), and TNF receptor-associated factor
6-dependent mechanisms. In addition, we show that 3BP2 induces CARD9-mediated
ubiquitination of cellular proteins and that MALT1 cleaves 3BP2 in a CARD9-dependent
manner. Furthermore, we show that 3BP2 is required for the ubiquitination, in addition to
the activation, of MALT1, which leads to MALT1-depenedent cleavage of 3BP2 in
dectin-1–stimulated BMDCs. Finally, we identified hematopoietic cell-specific Lyn
substrate 1 as a target of 3BP2, which is essential for dectin-1–induced expression of
interleukin 10 in BMDCs. These results indicate that 3BP2 regulates gene expression
and functions of MALT1 in dectin-1–stimulated cells and that 3BP2 plays an important
role in the dectin-1–mediated antifungal immunity.doctoral thesi
Verification of Stress Relief Effects of Taktil® Care in Postoperative Cardiovascular Patients on Mechanical Ventilation in an Intensive Care Unit
Full text link目的：集中治療室（ICU）で人工呼吸器を装着している心臓血管外科術後患者にタクティール®ケアを実施し，安静時と比較
してストレス緩和の効果を検証した。
方法：ICUに入室した心臓血管外科術後の人工呼吸器装着者を対象とした。病室内で，同一対象者に，仰臥位での安静後，タ
クティール®ケアを実施，再び安静とし，その前後に主観的および客観的指標のデータを取得した。
結果：分析対象者は4 名（全員男性，平均年齢 64.3±10.9 歳）で，タクティール®ケア中・後にバイタルサインの大きな変
動はなかった。客観的指標である血中オキシトシンや血中コルチゾールでは共通した変化は見られなかったが，主観的指標
である不安の指標State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Form JYZ（新版STAI）得点の低下，疼痛Visual Analogue Scale（VAS）の低下，リラクセーション効果（リラクセーション評価尺度短縮版）の増加を認めた。
考察：タクティール®ケアが，術後侵襲の傷害期において安全に行えること，主観的な疼痛，不安の軽減，リラクセーション
効果がみられ，ストレス緩和につながることが示唆された。Objective: We performed Taktil® care in postoperative cardiovascular patients on mechanical ventilation in an intensive care unit (ICU) to verify the stress-relief effects compared with those at rest.
Methods: The subjects were postoperative cardiovascular patients on mechanical ventilation admitted to an ICU. After receiving Taktil® care at rest in the supine position, they were placed at rest again. Data were collected before and after the treatment by using objective and subjective indices.
Results: Four subjects (men; age, 64.3±10.9 years) were included in the analysis. No significant changes were observed in vital signs between during and after Taktil® care. Furthermore, no such changes were noted in blood oxytocin and cortisol levels; however, post-treatment decreases in the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory score and the Visual Analogue Scale for pain, as well as an increase in relaxation effects (short-form self-report measure to assess relaxation effects), were observed.
Discussion: Our results suggested that Taktil® care can be safely performed in cardiovascular surgery patients during the phase of potential injury caused by invasive therapies, and that patients may experience less subjective pain and anxiety and feel more relaxed after the treatment, leading to stress relief.departmental bulletin pape
