    COVID 19 Severely Disrupts Blood Markers and Renal Function

    Since the emergence of COVID-19 in Wuhan, extensive research has explored its immediate and long-term effects. This study investigated the relationship between COVID-19 and blood disorders, liver proteins, and biochemical factors. We analyzed 150 samples divided into two groups: 75 COVID-19 patients and 75 healthy, recovered individuals aged 25-75 years. The study examined various hematological and biochemical markers, including WBC, lymphocytes, platelet count, NLR, RBC, CRP, BUN, creatinine, D-dimer, and ferritin. Significant differences were found in hemoglobin levels, WBC count, RBC, blood urea, and serum creatinine, with COVID-19 patients showing increased levels of these markers except for hemoglobin, which decreased. The results indicate that COVID-19 adversely affects hematological markers, renal function, and induces abnormal immune responses. Moreover, the severity of illness is positively associated with blood hemolysis and D-dimer levels, leading to hyperglycemia and pancreatic effects by inhibiting insulin synthesis. These findings underscore the impact of COVID-19 on blood parameters and organ function

    The current study was conducted in  the laboratories of graduate studies / Department of Life Sciences / College of Education for Girls / University of Tikrit, Salah Al-Din Water Department (Department of Quality Control) and laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering (Department of Chemical Engineering). To study the environment and microbiology and to know some of the qualitative characteristics of the water of the Ishaqi station located in the Ishaqi district, Salah Al-Din  Governorate, and to show the validity of the selected station's water and to observe the monthly and location changes during the study period, which amounted to six months, starting from October 2023 until the end of March 2024.     Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes synovial inflammation, which leads to joint erosion. A group of factors contribute to the occurrence of the disease, including ecological and hereditary features, which can lead to the disease's progress. This study investigated the association between rheumatoid disease and various biomarkers, including RF, anti-CCP, ESR, and CRP. The study aimed to determine the ability of these biomarkers to diagnose rheumatoid disease. Materials and Methods: 100 samples were collected from patients suspected of having rheumatoid arthritis from Al-Sadr Medical City in Najaf/Iraq, the samples were diagnosed by the consultant and the arthritis unit in the abovementioned hospitals from August 2023 to February 2024. Then 50 samples were collected from healthy people as a control group. five ml of intravenous blood was drawn from both patients and controls, and the sera were separated by centrifugation, kept at −20°C, and tested. RF was detected by agglutination of RF latex strips (Solarbio/China), ESR, and CRP. Antibodies to CCP were measured by (ELISA) kit from Genius/USA protocol. Results: The results showed that rheumatoid arthritis was significantly associated with age and gender.  patients 24(24%) had a family history of genetic factors. while 76 (76%) were affected by other non-genetic factors. In this study, there is a highly significant difference (P<0.01) And the chi-square was 75. When comparing the RF group with the control group, the RF gave a positive result (84%), while 16 (16%) gave a negative result for the RF, compared with the control. The negative results for the RF were 45 (90%) and 5 (10%) gave positive results.  a significant difference (P<0.01) and a chi-square of 122 when comparing between the anti-CCP group and the control group. Anti-CCP gave 93 (93%) positive results for RA compared to the control, 50 (100%) gave negative results (RF, Anti-ccp), (ESR, CRP) also significantly increased in RA. the sensitivity results showed that 84% of tested cases indicated positive results for RF. RF is found in cases of rheumatoid arthritis with a sensitivity of 84%. On the other hand, the specificity result indicates that 90% of healthy controls tested negative for RF. Therefore, RF may be a good indicator for monitoring RA, where positive findings are more prevalent. The susceptibility result indicates that all cases tested showed positive results for ANTI-CCP. ANTI-CCP is present in RA cases with a sensitivity of 93%. It is noteworthy that the specificity is also 100%, indicating that no positive results for ANTI-CCP were found in the healthy control group tested. Therefore, ANTI-CCP is a highly sensitive and specific indicator of RA. Conclusion: The research exposed a notable association between rheumatoid disease and age as well as gender. The occurrence of Anti-CCP demonstrated higher diagnostic accuracy for rheumatoid disease compared to RF alone, as indicated by their sensitivity and specificity. Moreover, ESR and CRP levels were meaningfully raised in individuals with rheumatoid disease, further supporting their role as dependable markers for measuring disease activity. These findings significantly contribute to our understanding of the analytic and prognostic value of these biomarkers in rheumatoid disease

    Chronic stenosis of the larynx and trachea in children is complex and challenging in otolaryngology. This article provides an overview of treatment approaches, with a focus on neonatal and pediatric populations. We examine the etiology of laryngeal stenosis, including congenital and acquired cases. Treatment options, including balloon dilation, are discussed. We also analyze the efficacy of radiofrequency surgery and balloon dilation interventions in pediatric patients. Demographics, severity, and outcomes are examined based on a study conducted at TashPMI Clinic. Minimally invasive techniques are recommended for limited scar stenosis. This analysis sheds light on managing chronic stenosis in pediatric patients

    Assessment of Vitamin D Levels and Some Biochemicals in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients in Al-Hawija District, Kirkuk, Iraq

    Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major health problem that affects the balance of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin D and iron. Patients suffer from vitamin D deficiency and iron disturbances, which affect their general health and liver function. In Al-Hawija district, Kirkuk Governorate, Iraq, local research lacks information on this relationship. This study aims to evaluate vitamin D levels, iron forms, and liver function in kidney failure patients in this area, and explore the association between vitamin D and different forms of iron. A case-control study included 90 male and female cases (60 patients and 30 controls) of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The study was conducted from January to March 2023 at the dialysis center in Hawija. Ferritin and vitamin D were measured using an Ichroma device, UIBC was measured using a Cobas device, and TIBC was measured using a relationship between UIBC and serum iron. Iron, kidney function and liver enzymes were also measured using the spectrophotometric method. The results show a significant increase in indicators of kidney and liver Functions as well as vitamin D and iron deficiencies in patients compared to healthy individuals. These changes reflect the effects of kidney failure on various body systems. This studied also suggests that vitamin D does not directly interact with iron markers (iron serum, ferritin, UIBC and TIBC) in patients with kidney failure

    Physical Efficacy Among High School Female: Does Physical Exercise Outcome Expectations Matter?

    This study aims to (1) identify whether students’ age, body mass index, outcome expectation for exercise can predict their physical exercise Self-Efficacy, and (2) investigate the differences in physical exercise Self-Efficacy, outcome expectation for exercise between the groups of BMI classes and grade. A descriptive predictive correlational design was used to guide this study. This study was conducted in Ramadi City, Anbar Governorate, Iraq. The study included a simple random sample of 450 female high school students. The study instrument includes participants’ sociodemographic characteristics, the Stages of Change Scale for Exercise (Short Form), The Exercise Outcome Expectation Scale. Data were collected using a self-reported instrument. The statistical package for social science, version 27 was used for data analysis. The study results revealed that participants’ age and exercising together positively predict more their Self-Efficacy of engaging in regular physical exercise. On the other hand, participants’ BMI negatively predicts their Self-Efficacy. There are statistically significant differences in Negative Affect, Inconvenient to Exercise, and overall Self-Efficacy among grade groups. There is a statistically significant difference in rewards among BMI groups. The researchers concluded the older the student, the greater the Self-Efficacy of engaging in regular physical exercise

    Effectiveness of an Educational Program about Stress Management on Patients' Knowledge of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

    Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is an umbrella term for a group of heterogeneous pathophysiologic disorders inducing effortless movement of stomach contents into the esophagus, resulting in troublesome symptoms or complications. Objectives of the study are to assess patients' knowledge about stress management with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and to evaluate patients' knowledge about stress management with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, in addition, to determine the effectiveness of the educational program on patients' knowledge about stress management with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Also, to determine the relationship between patients' knowledge and their socio-demographic and clinical data. Quasi-experimental design was implemented in the present study by assigning patients randomly into two groups (study and control groups) by using pre and post-test procedures for both groups to determine the effectiveness of an educational program. The study started on April 2nd, 2023 until April 1st, 2024. A non-probability (purposive sample) technique was used to select 64 patients and included them in the present study. Data collected through a well-designed questionnaire consists of three parts: Part I: Socio-Demographic Characteristic. part II: Clinical Data and Part III: Patients' Knowledge of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Concerning stress management. The findings of the present study indicate that the overall patients’ knowledge about stress management after educational program application was good in the study group while in the control group, it was fair at post-test. In addition, there is a non-significant difference in the study group’s patients' knowledge at post-test according to their demographic and clinical data, at a p-value of more than 0.05 except level of education was significant at a p-value 0.014. The study concludes that the educational program positively affects patients' knowledge regarding stress management after GERD, and this effect has been proven. The study recommends that nursing education guidelines be prepared and up to date under the supervision of experts from the nursing and education authority for use by the health staff at the Ministry of Health as a standard in managing patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease

    Effect of Humic Acid Treatment Methods on Yield Traits of Some Bean Varieties Vicia faba

    This study was conducted in one of the nurseries, Al-Sharqat district for the season 2023-2024 to study the effect of methods of adding humic acid (without adding acid to the soil and spraying on the plant) on the yield of different varieties of beans, namely (local, Dutch, Spanish and French). The treatment of adding acid to the soil significantly affected the characteristics of the yield, including the number of pods plant-1, seed weight g, seed yield plant-1 and biological yield, with an increase of 60%, 74.24%, 15.62 and 14.85% respectively compared to the control treatment. The French variety excelled in the characteristics of counting pods by 60% compared to the local variety, while the local variety outperformed in the seed weight characteristic by 74.24% and compared to the French variety, and also outperformed in seed yield and biological yield by 42.86% 42.86% respectively compared to the Dutch variety. The same variety outperformed with acid and without acid with the highest number of pods plant-1 amounted to 8.0 pods-1 and an increase of 60% compared to the local variety with acid and without acid, which gave the lowest number Of the pods, 5 pods were 1, while the local variety to which acid was added outweighed the highest weight per seed was 1.17 g compared to the French variety that is not treated with acid, whose seed weight reached 0.65 g, and the same variety excelled in seed yield, plant-1 and biological yield, with an increase of 69.13 and 36.59% compared to the Dutch and Spanish varieties
