Socio-Demographic Characteristics Influence on Birth Order and Exclusive Breast feeding Practices Among Multiparous Mothers Attending Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan, Oyo State
No full textAdequate nutrition at early childhood is essential to ensure the healthy growth and development of children, Breastfeeding offers health benefits to mother and child when exclusively breastfed. Children aged less than 5 years are dying due to inadequate exclusive breastfeeding practices. This study aimed to determine the influence of socio-demographic characteristics among multiparous mothers on birth order and exclusive breastfeeding practices. Four null hypotheses were tested for the study.
The research design used was a cross-sectional design. A sample size of 288 mothers with two or more children attending Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Yemetu were selected using a systematic random sampling and a structured questionnaire was used to collect data on sociodemographic characteristics, birth history, knowledge, and practice of breastfeeding. The Chi-square test was used for bivariate analyses to test the significance of the association between categorical variables and the practice of exclusive breastfeeding, it was found that religion, age of the children, and parity are factors that influence the exclusive breastfeeding practices. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify independent predictors of exclusive breastfeeding. The level of significance was at 5%.
The mean age of mothers was 30.4 years (SD 4.4 years) while the mean age of the children was 56.0 months (SD 41.1 months). Exclusive breastfeeding was higher among the second and third children compared to the first, fourth, and fifth children. However, on logistic regression, the differences were not significant. Mothers with three children were about three times more likely to have exclusively breastfed their children compared to mothers with four/five children (OR=2.168. 95%CI= 1.307-3.596). Mothers from another ethnic group different from Yoruba were significantly less likely to breastfeed exclusively than those who were Yoruba (OR=0.515, 95% CI=0.254-1.046).
Based on the results findings, the study recommended that educational practices should be strengthened among mothers, especially on the benefit of exclusive breastfeeding which makes it superior to artificial feeding
Importance and Productivity of Bakhira Lake (Sant Kabir Nagar, India) for the Livelihoods of Tribals and Locals
No full textBakhira lake is in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Eastern Uttar Pradesh in India. It is a vast stretch of water body expanding over an area of 29 km2. This is an important lake of eastern UP, which provides a wintering and staging ground for a number of migratory waterfowls and a breeding ground for resident birds. This is also used for farming activities as it is connected to Bakhira Canal which covers the people of 15 km from its origin. The villagers from the surrounding villages depend on it for their livelihood in the form of fishing, agricultural activities and fuelwood collection from it. The Siberians birds travel across 5000 km at the time of winter's. Best time to visit to Bakhira lake is in winters Nov–Jan. During this time migratory birds from Tibet, China, Europe & Siberia come here, covering about 5000 km. There are more than 30 species of fish found in the lake. Enumeration on Therapeutic and Ethnopharmacological Properties of Adosa [Adhatoda Vasica (L.) Nees]
No full textAdosa (Adhatoda vasica) is an important medicinal plant widely used in Unani system of medicine of (Family-Acanthaceae). The leaves of Adhatoda vasica contain several biologically active phytochemicals such as alkaloids, tannins, saponins, phenolics and flavonoids. It mainly consists of pyrroquinazoline, alkaloids, viz. vasicine, vasicol, vasicinone, peganine along with other minor constituents. The plant possesses diverse pharmacological activities, In Unani system of medicine, the drug is described as having dafa-e-tashannuj (anti-spasmodic), qatil-e-jarasim (antibiotic), mukhrij-e-balgham (expectorant), dafa-e-humma (antipyretic) properties due to which it is prescribed in a wide range of ailments like influenza, tuberculosis, bronchitis, gastric ulcers etc. Leaf juice is beneficial in the treatment of dysentery and diarrhoea. Various other activities like radio modulation, hypoglycaemic effect, cardiovascular protection, antitubercular, antiviral, hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity have also been reported.

With the help of modern information technologies the country’s economy liberalized visibly, the public officials became more responsible and accountable in front of citizens.
