The Effect of Air Pollution on Green Innovation

    No full text
Since the implementation of the Reform and Opening up policy more than 30 years ago, China's sustained economic development had caused great damage to the ecological environment, which has become a key obstacle in the course of social development in China. Problems like long-term over-dependence on energy make it necessary for China to solve environmental pollution and ecological damage arising from excessive energy consumption. At the fifth plenary session of the 18th CPC central committee, the central government centered the government on the principle of innovative, green and sharing development, and encouraged all sectors of society to devote more resources to green development. As an important means to alleviate environmental problems and maintain sustainable development, green innovation is also related to the future planning of enterprises and the construction of ecological civilization. In the existing research on innovation activities, the green innovation behavior of enterprises has gradually aroused people's attention. At present, some scholars have studied the impact of air pollution on the production of enterprises. And the impact of green innovation is mostly investigated from the macro level of countries and regions. However, there are only a very limited number of studies on innovation enterprises from the micro perspective. In this case, it is of great significance to explore the impact of air pollution on the output of green innovation from the perspective of enterprises. In this study, 1,049 production-listed enterprises from 2000 to 2017 were selected as research samples. Firstly, the influence of different factors on green innovation was analyzed theoretically, and air pollution, an environmental factor, was further analyzed. Then, econometric model was established to empirically investigate green innovations of different values, with the proportion of pollution days in a year being taken as the measurement standard of air quality. The characteristics of the enterprise were analyzed in groups. According to the result, enterprises were stimulated by air pollution and carried out more green innovation, especially for high-value innovative green innovation. State-owned enterprises were more active in green innovation than nonstate- owned enterprises. Large enterprises and high-tech enterprises with better financing capacity were more inclined to carry out green innovation. Enterprises in high-pollution areas carried out more green innovation when air pollution worsened. To sum up, in the process of green innovation, the government should provide enterprises with sound policy guidance and financial support services, promote the exchange and cooperation between state-owned enterprises and non-state-owned enterprises, provide adequate policy preferences and financial support for small and medium-sized enterprises to carry out green technology innovation, and encourage enterprises to conduct green production. All regions should increase cooperation in green production, achieve balanced development, and step up pollution control. Enterprises should give full play to their innovation ability, invest more resources in green technology research and development, process innovation, and establish a sustainable development mechanism on the basis of improving their green innovation ability. In addition, enterprises should also make the best use of capital accumulation and capital allocation, so as to reduce the impact of external financing constraints while improving their profitability and market competitiveness. Thus, through green innovation enterprises can come true and continue developing under the constraints of resources

Financial Instability, the Sovereign-Bank Nexus and Eurobonds: a Post-Keynesian Stock Flow Consistent Model.

his master thesis discusses the implication of the joint issuance of public debt in the Eurozone in the form of eurobonds on the financial stability of the European Monetary Union(EMU). More precisely, this thesis relies on the important literature on the existence of destabilizing dynamics in the EMU financial system, notably at play during the European sovereign debt crisis, creating a negative feedback loop between a sovereign and its domestic public sector, often referred as sovereign-bank nexus or diabolic loop. The mechanisms go as follows: an increase in the sovereign risk translates into a devaluation of the public debt held by private banks, increasing their leverage and pushing them to reduce their provision of credit to the economy, further weakening government finances. We try to introduce these dynamics in a theoretical stock-flow consistent model of the EMU featuring two countries: a northern, Germany-like country, and a southern Greece-like one, with distinct dynamics of credit rationing by banks as a consequence of variations in the sovereign risk of the southern country. Our results, although only a preliminary step towards a fully satisfying and more sophisticated version of the model, display some of these dynamics, and suggest that the issuance of eurobonds has a positive effect on financial stability, and reduces the credit rationing of banks. The inquiry presented here has reinforced our opinion that significant work remains and deserves to be done on this matter, to which we hope this development can be of some u

The Comparative Study on Volkswagen’s Story Branding Content on YouTube and Tencent Video

    No full text
This research has collected the story branding content published by Volkswagen on its YouTube and Tencent Video's official platform from 2018 to 2019. A total of 12 samples. Explore how successful multinational companies can build their brand identity and communicate with local consumers through storytelling. What changes did Volkswagen make for localization? What core values does it retain? A content analysis of video content is conducted, which combines narrative analysis and cognitive science. This study integrates the story elements proposed by Vincent, Foss, Fog, et al. and analyzes the narratives in settings, characters, objects, events, and messages. Supplemented with the cognitive science variables proposed by Simon (2016) for discussion. This study found that in the content on Tencent Video, Volkswagen used a China-specific connection between the country and people to deliver brand knowledge. The stories on YouTube are more concerned with the relationship between individuals and cars. However, the final message to be delivered is not much different. Volkswagen has packed the automotive products into the message of love and trust. They both put stress on people’s feelings toward cars but not the performance and value of the car itself

Shifting tides: Right-wing populism and immigration politics in the European Union

    No full text
Migration, fleeing and even populism are not new concepts in today's political discourse - yet the dynamics and perceptions of these have changed considerably. Especially since the refugee crisis, the issue of migration has led to strong polarizations in many European societies. The objective of this research study is to determine whether migration automatically leads to an increase in right-wing populism in the European Union. To do so, the following research question is being asked: In which context is there an empirical link between right-wing populism and migration policy? To answer this research question, country case studies were consulted in the practical part of this paper. The chosen reference countries and their right-wing populist parties are Germany and Italy. Both countries and the success of their rightwing populist parties were analyzed with the same approach and subsequently compared. The country case studies have shown that there are different causes per reference country. In Germany, the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD advertises its right-wing populist propaganda with the refugee crisis; in Italy, right-wing populist party success is more likely to be due to the economic damage of the financial crisis. Migration is not the cause of the rise of populism in Europe. The causes lie much deeper. But the fact is that migration has exposed or exacerbated existing lines of conflict in and between European societies. It is a catalyst, not a cause. Right-wing populists benefit from the fact that migration in Europe is still perceived as the most important or one of the most significant challenges. What is needed are new political offers that address the problems that underlie the social lines of conflict. Prescriptions against right-wing populism cannot be found solely on the field of integration and migration policy
