Horizontal inequality and grievances: A lethal combination? A case study analyzing the impact of the Israeli settlement policy on the level of violence of Palestinian citizens living in Hebron
This study assesses how horizontal inequalities between Israeli settlers and Palestinians living in the West Bank cause grievances among Palestinians transforming to violence towards the Israeli citizens. A scoring model tailored to Hebron's case is introduced to evaluate the line of argumentation by estimating the level of violence in the designated area. This method is based on expert interviews containing pre-surveys and a theoretical review. In a second step, the estimated level of violence is tested through data of Palestinian attacks against Israelis based on the Global Terrorism Database (1976-2018). A historical review of the Israeli settlement policy since 1967 substantiates the research. The results suggest that the applied mechanism of horizontal inequalities increases Palestinian grievances and encourages violence in Hebron. Thus, the thesis strengthens theoretical research of horizontal inequalities, grievances, and violence and offers a new direction in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process
Third-party logistics, a European Perspective
This paper investigates third-party logistics from a European perspective based on outsourcing issues. The relationship between the consignors and consignees reached to its new era witnessing implication of a new intermediary, which is called third parties. A typical 3PL company is explained as a facilitator which aims to benefit partners financially and organizationally. In this research the role of outsourcing in 3PL companies, the main factors for stimulating the phenomena will be assessed. Finally, the article reviews company examples and general conditions in this market
Implications of the Green Transition for the German Automobile Industry
This thesis looks at the potential role of the IG Metall, the biggest German trade union, in the Green Transition of the German automobile sector. The IG Metall’s power and influence in the political, social and economic sphere will be analysed based on the Power Resource Approach by Dörre and Schmalz (2014). The analysis will show that there are two tendencies within the union: a conservative and a progressive approach, differentiated by their goals. Consequently, both wings have different ways to approach the transition and are each relying and focusing on certain power resources. The result is a tightrope walk of the IG Metall, balancing both tendencies within one union in an environment that is as torn as the union itself
The Impact of the EU Taxonomy – A Qualitative Study Exploring the Impact of the EU Taxonomy on Financial Institutions
The EU Taxonomy is the first standardized and comprehensive classification system for sustainable economic activities. This paper provides the public interested in sustainability issues with an overview of the current state of non-financial reporting and the alignment with the EU Taxonomy. It aims at determining the institutional conditions and reporting practices of banking institutions in Europe. The thesis includes an analysis of non-financial information according to the TCFD recommendations and EU Taxonomy requirements of six banks throughout Germany and Spain during financial year 2020. The results highlight those geographic discrepancies in sustainability reporting will benefit banks who are already reporting in accordance with voluntary frameworks or have more stringent regulations for green financing in place. This paper shows that in the banking industry, comprehensive qualitative descriptions of climate change risk and opportunity have been provided, which will avail the consideration of the “do no significant harm” principle of the Taxonomy. Additionally, the social criteria of the EU Taxonomy are consistent with those of most existing systems and may thus be implemented by most banks already. The analysis also revealed that compared to existing frameworks, the EU Taxonomy's environmental criteria differ greatly. Accordingly, meeting the existing framework's criteria by itself is not enough to attain a high taxonomy alignment for financial institutions. Furthermore, a significant amount of data retrieval and analysis will be required by the EU Taxonomy. The lack of quantitative data in most financial institutions will require intensive improvement since this issue has not been adequately addressed yet

Kompetenzanforderungen an Führungskräfte von agilen Softwareentwicklungsteams
Auf Basis des Great Eight-Kompetenzrahmens stellt dieser Beitrag der Zeitschrift Gruppe. Interaktion. Organisation. (GIO) eine Studie zu den Kompetenzanforderungen an Projektleiter*innen in hochdigitalisierten Arbeitsumgebungen der agilen Softwareentwicklung vor und definiert den zugehörigen Führungserfolg. Es wurden elf Einzelinterviews mit Expert*innen eines internationalen IT-Dienstleisters durchgeführt, die verschiedene Rollen im Kontext der Softwareentwicklung ausfüllten. Die Interviews wurden mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse anhand eines Kategoriensystems computergestützt ausgewertet. Es konnte ein Anforderungsprofil identifiziert werden, das 20 Kompetenzfacetten im Sinne leistungsrelevanter Verhaltensweisen umfasst. Eine bis drei Kompetenzfacetten ließen sich jeweils einer von 12 übergeordneten Kompetenzdimensionen zuordnen, wobei jede Domäne der Great Eight durch mindestens eine Kompetenzdimension repräsentiert war. Die Domänen Leading and Deciding (Motivationsfähigkeit; Mitarbeiterförderung), Interacting and Presenting (Kommunikationsfähigkeit; Konfliktfähigkeit) sowie Analyzing and Interpreting (Kenntnisse IT-Branche; Überblickswissen Softwareentwicklung; agile Arbeitsmethoden) umfassten jeweils zwei bzw. drei Kompetenzdimensionen.
Die restlichen fünf Domänen wurden jeweils durch eine Kompetenzdimension abgebildet (Supporting und Cooperating: Teamfähigkeit; Creating and Conceptualizing: Offenheit; Organizing and Executing: Zeit- und Ressourcenmanagement; Adapting and Coping: Proaktiver Umgang mit Fehlern; Enterprising and Performing: Begeisterungsfähigkeit für Softwareentwicklung). Die Domänen Analyzing and Interpreting sowie Enterprising and Performing bilden Kompetenzanforderungen ab, die spezifisch für den Arbeitskontext der agilen Softwareentwicklung sind. Führungserfolg liegt vor, wenn lauffähige Softwareressourcen effizient nach Kundenwünschen entwickelt wird und die Teammitglieder gleichzeitig eine hohe Arbeitszufriedenheit berichten. Zusammenfassend lassen sich Kompetenzanforderungen an Projektleiter*innen in digitalisiert und agil agierenden Softwareentwicklerteams anhand der Great Eight konzeptualisieren, wobei das Anforderungsportfolio vier tätigkeitsfeldspezifische und acht kontextunabhängige Kompetenzdimensionen vereint, die sich jeweils anhand relevanter Verhaltensweisen für den Führungsalltag definieren lassen
A robust-heuristic optimization approach to a green supply chain design with consideration of assorted vehicle types and carbon policies under uncertainty
Adoption of carbon regulation mechanisms facilitates an evolution toward green and sustainable supply chains followed by an increased complexity. Through the development and usage of a multi-choice goal programming model solved by an improved algorithm, this article investigates sustainability strategies for carbon regulations mechanisms. We first propose a sustainable logistics model that considers assorted vehicle types and gas emissions involved with product transportation. We then construct a bi-objective model that minimizes total cost as the first objective function and follows environmental considerations in the second one. With our novel robust-heuristic optimization approach, we seek to support the decision-makers in comparison and selection of carbon emission policies in supply chains in complex settings with assorted vehicle types, demand and economic uncertainty. We deploy our model in a case-study to evaluate and analyse two carbon reduction policies, i.e., carbon-tax and cap-and-trade policies. The results demonstrate that our robust-heuristic methodology can efficiently deal with demand and economic uncertainty, especially in large-scale problems. Our findings suggest that governmental incentives for a cap-and-trade policy would be more effective for supply chains in lowering pollution by investing in cleaner technologies and adopting greener practices
Exiting the COVID-19 pandemic: after-shock risks and avoidance of disruption tails in supply chains
Entering the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on supply chains. Reacting to the pandemic and adaptation in the “new normal” have been challenging tasks. Exiting the pandemic can lead to some after-shock effects such as “disruption tails.” While the research community has undertaken considerable efforts to predict the pandemic’s impacts and examine supply chain adaptive behaviors during the pandemic, little is known about supply chain management in the course of pandemic elimination and post-disruption recovery. If capacity and inventory management are unaware of the after-shock risks, this can result in highly destabilized production–inventory dynamics and decreased performance in the post-disruption period causing product deficits in the markets and high inventory costs in the supply chains. In this paper, we use a discrete-event simulation model to investigate some exit strategies for a supply chain in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our model can inform managers about the existence and risk of disruption tails in their supply chains and guide the selection of post-pandemic recovery strategies. Our results show that supply chains with postponed demand and shutdown capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic are particularly prone to disruption tails. We then developed and examined two strategies to avoid these disruption tails. First, we observed a conjunction of recovery and supply chain coordination which mitigates the impact of disruption tails by demand smoothing over time in the post-disruption period. Second, we found a gradual capacity ramp-up prior to expected peaks of postponed demand to be an effective strategy for disruption tail control
