Is Bridgerton Season 2 a Feminist Adaptation of the Shakespearean Character of the Shrew?
William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew (c. 1590-1591), categorized as a comedy, foregrounds the place of women in an utterly patriarchal society by depicting the character of Kate, labelled as a shrew, as starved and deprived of sleep by her new husband Petruccio. The play generally proves discomforting to a contemporary audience. Yet, Bridgerton, season 2 (2022), broadcast on Netflix, borrows from Shakespeare’s comedy and revives its shrew. Originally adapted from a series of books by Julia Quinn, the series shows Kate (Simone Ashley) come to London to have her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) married. The series shares several features with the original playtext of The Taming of the Shrew: a dichotomy between two opposite sisters, an enemy-to-lover trope, and a form of final redemption. This article explores whether Netflix’s Kate may be considered as a feminist version of Shakespeare’s shrew by examining the discrepancy between seemingly feminist strategies and what can be identified as feminist-baiting elements.
The article proposes an analysis of the syntactic, lexical and phono-expressive peculiarities of Colloqui con il professor Y (Einaudi, 1971), an Italian translation of Entretiens avec le professeur Y by Louis-Ferdinand Céline, signed by Gianni Celati and Lino Gabellone.
This article provides a critical overview of digital reading practices, exploring their role in the current cultural context. In particular, it aims to delve into the ways in which reading, once exclusively tied to printed text, is evolving into a more complex activity that includes new formats such as digital literature, audiobooks, and other multimedia forms. Reading is no longer just an individual experience but is primarily seen as a social and cultural phenomenon, closely linked to changes in the media ecosystem. In this context, reading is part of a broader cultural shift that involves different genres and media, reshaping the very concept of “reading” in the digital age.
Transform Active cities facing the ecological transition
Climate change is the latest a threat multiplier, since it worsens most of humanity’s most pressing environmental, societal and economic challenges. Anyway, growing urbanisation brings both opportunities and challenges related to the ongoing transition process, since cities are at the forefront of changes and challenges. Regeneration of urban areas is a significant priority, which needs to take into account environmental quality, social justice and sustainable development. Transforming cities and regions into vibrant, sustainable, and resilient living places has become a key global priority. In the light of the above, the article – in the context of ongoing research activities – focuses on the ecological transition in the EU panorama, highlighting the active and decisive role of cities, with reference to some significant case studies in the implementation of Green and Nature-based Solutions (NBS) through an integrated, forward-looking, and broad-based planning approach. It is structured in three main parts. The first part places the theme in the international scientific context. The second, with reference to the EU panorama, highlights the fundamental role of NBS with reference to the methodological approach, and latest and most innovative ongoing policies, strategies and practices. The third part consists of the discussion and the consequent concluding remarks.

Contributions of native plants to the urban ecosystem: Bursa (Turkey) sample
For the coming years, it is a potential danger that the ecosystems existing in urban areas will be heavily affected, especially under the pressure of climate change. In the face of this danger, a good understanding of the natural landscape in urban areas and the adoption of local species are of great importance for sustainability. Native plants contribute to the life of their communities by easily adapting to the environmental conditions in their areas. In this study, the contributions of 72 native woody taxa to the ecosystem were investigated in Bursa (Turkey), which has a rich flora. The relationships that emerged in terms of the criteria examined revealed important results. The existence of a positive relationship between the criteria found in the study shows that the use of native plants is important for the protection of the ecosystem in urban areas. The main purpose is to examine the ecological needs of native plants and their contribution to the urban ecology to determine whether the existing correlation relationships are meaningful. It is aimed to associate natural areas in cities with the ecological needs of plants
Editorial preface
This Special Issue of TeMA - Journal of Land Use, Mobility and Environment proposes to delve into the concept of transition applied to urban and territorial systems with the aim of verifying the state of the art in scientific as well as in technical sector, also considering the effects of Covid-19pandemic crisis (Angiello, 2021). What is urgent is the need to change both social behaviors and the use of primary resources (water, energy and soil) which is claimed by technicians and scholars as the only solution to face environmental challenges affecting nowadays cities. These challenges and the linked risks are so relevant that an in-depth change in the operative actions as well as in the theoretical approaches has become mandatory, in order to avoid negative and disruptive effects. with this Special Issue we intended to draw the attention of technicians and scholars to the theme of urban transition which from many quarters seems to prefer the "ecological dimension" to pursue sustainability objectives. The eleven contributions received, while maintaining the underlying theme of the main theme, propose differentiated perspectives of sustainable transition which can be divided into three groups:
Methodologies and cognitive tools for urban transition
Urban policies and driver elements of the urban transition
Possible projects and applications for urban transition
The contributions of the first group propose analysis methodologies oriented to the knowledge of the changes affecting cities, they try to identify adaptation solutions suitable for these changes. In particular, the aspects relating to the vulnerability of cities to the effects of climate change, the need to develop adequate tools to support informed decision-making processes, to define territorial planning tools capable of integrating the transition through the construction of a system of clear rules. The contributions of the second group focus on the analysis of the effects deriving from climate change, highlighting the urgency of integrating adaptation and mitigation actions within the process of defining land use policies at different scales. Aspects relating to the framework of European "green" policies are explored in depth, as well as the need for integration between urban planning and environmental assessment tools, and the search for appropriate methods and tools to improve the adaptation and resilience capacity of urban systems to the need to define approaches based on a holistic and systemic vision for the knowledge of urban phenomena at different scales. The contributions of the third group allow for the building of a first cognitive framework related to research projects and/or urban planning practices aimed at identifying interventions to improve the conditions of urban sustainability, with particular attention to "fragile" territories (lagoon areas, internal areas, coastal areas). Aspects related to the feasibility of creating zero energy emission urban districts as well as the definition of actions for the protection of urban ecosystems are always explored in depth with a view to tracing practicable and sustainable trajectories of change
Towards participatory urban planning: insights from citizens. Results of a public questionnaire on climate change and its local effects in Parma
Citizen involvement in urban transition processes has been gaining recognition within the scientific literature and urban transformation initiatives, highlighting the significance of meaningful citizen participation in promoting healthier and more resilient cities. Co-design and co-planning, in both top-down and bottom-up urban transformation processes, allow stakeholders to collaborate in defining the future of cities in a climate change adaptation framework that encompasses interventions such as soil desealing. In this framework, public questionnaires have emerged as valuable instruments to solicit citizens' insights into participatory processes, as an aid to orient urban planning and transformation scenarios towards their needs and vulnerabilities. After tracing the outline of a local bottom-up project (named “Green in Parma”), this contribution will present and discuss the outcomes of a questionnaire that investigated the perception of the citizens of Parma regarding climate change and its local effects. Univariate and bivariate analyses, including Chi-square tests and factor analyses, were conducted on data collected from a sample of 1,352 participants. The findings provided insights linked to the city and to the neighbourhoods, allowing to localise the quantitative data. The results were enriched with qualitative associations with the neighbourhoods socio-environmental characteristics, fostering the envisioning of climate change adaptation strategies. The analyses reveal the potential of questionnaires and citizens’ involvement in shaping urban planning scenarios, acknowledging the citizens’ role as bearers of knowledge and active stakeholders
The exploration of tactical urbanism as a strategy for adapting to climate change. The "SpaziAttivi" program in the city of Brescia
Lately, conventional urban planning strategies have encountered a new and often opposing force known as Tactical Urbanism, which has gained widespread prominence. This movement represents an approach to addressing issues at the neighborhood level, intervening in public spaces through citizen involvement and implementing temporary, cost-effective solutions. The Municipality of Brescia is actively exploring this innovative approach through the 'SpaziAttivi' project, a component of the Climate Transition Strategy approved in 2021. This paper aims to elucidate why tactical urbanism has been chosen as the preferred method to enhance understanding, awareness, and the adoption of a collaborative approach to addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation issues. Specifically, the paper seeks to delineate the methodological process employed in selecting areas for tactical urbanism experiments, considering other successful participatory processes in Tactical Urbanism. The selection process ultimately leading to the decision to intervene in two areas, a significant reduction from the initial 56 proposals put forth by the citizens
«Punctus in hoc stat, scilicet in processu in infinitum»
In this article, the author investigates Cusanus’ idea of geometric point that is problematic in three respects. The first concerns the constitution of the point as a mathematical entity: the problem is given by the possible interpretations of the Cusanian abstractio, which oscillates between an Aristotelian-Thomist approach and a “proto-modern” conception. The second concerns the relationship of the point with the one: Cusanus on the one hand affirms the priority of the one over the point, which of that is explicatio; on the other it seems to separate the one and the point, identifying them in two distinct principles (equally original) of two different fields, arithmetic and geometry. The third problem is that of the divisibility or not of the point, a topic particularly discussed at that time
Intelligenze Artificiali in educazione
The purpose of this paper is to examine the epistemological perspectives that relate to the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on education. The initial analysis focuses on the technological context and social perception of these trends, emphasizing the need to comprehend the underlying processes of any technological development. AI analysis emphasizes the complexity of divergent systems, urging the need to overcome the idea of technological uniformity. An important reflection comes from the philosophy of Jaques Ellul, who delineates technology not only as a machine, but as a process that embraces ideas, concepts, and interests. The critical approach to the use of AI in education is guided by this perspective, which challenges the idea of predefined tools and encourages informed and personalized adoption. We explore the challenges and directions of applying AI to education, emphasizing the importance of strong digital literacy. Finally, the training needed to manage new technologies is addressed, focusing on skills related to Big Data, programming, and machine learning, and emphasizing the impending transformation of education through the integration of these technologies. Reflecting on the complexity of digital technology, the conclusion advocates for an in-depth understanding rather than superficial judgments.
