The pragmatic particle ’áda in Kambaata (Cushitic)
This study investigates the morphological makeup, syntactic features and pragmatic functions of ’áda, a pragmatic marker (pm) in Kambaata (Cushitic). The data were drawn from a corpus of two hours of recorded, transcribed and annotated spontaneous speech. The pragmatic marker is a freestanding word. As a particle, it does not take any affixes except another pragmatically deter-mined suffix ‑be, which is used for negating one’s own or an interlocutor’s intention. The pm appears before or after a simple sentence and a complement clause. It may also come after the matrix clause, which follows the complement clause. An interrogative sentence preceded by the pm changes into a rhetorical one. With a cleft sentence, the pm occurs either preceding or following the first focused (copula) clause. In all cases, it is separated with a pause from the rest of the words and phrases in the syntactic structure. Thus, it is an unintegrated extra-sentential unit. The historical origin and the potential source from which the particle was grammaticalized could not be determined. Its functions include signaling repair, surprise, apology, noticing and turn yielding. In some contexts, more than one of the preceding functions can overlap
Literary aesthetics of Klama lyrics: An exploration of allusion
Folk songs have been a major part of ceremonies in most African societies of which the Krobo in Ghana are no exception. One striking type of folk music of the Krobo is Klama. Klama songs serve as a platform to instruct, entertain, educate as well as chastise wrong doers. In the belly of these songs are buried aesthetic devices which need to be unearthed. This study, therefore, sets out to investigate the use of allusion as an aesthetic device in Klama songs. It also aims at establishing and identifying the types of allusion in the songs. The study seeks to examine the effective use of Klama lyrics in communicating the history and beliefs of the Krobo. The study is anchored on the Infracultural framework of folklore analysis as the conceptual framework. The framework acknowledges that oral texts are deeply rooted in the culture and tradition of the performer and that the interpretation of an oral text must be situated within the cultural context. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation and information gathered from ethnographic records. The study reveals that biblical and historical allusions are important literary devices in Klama songs. It argues that allusion is heavily dwelt upon by Klama cantors to communicate the history and the beliefs of the Krobo ethnolinguistic group. This study documents Klama songs and contributes to the teaching of poetry and oral literature. It also brings Klama songs to the lime light for scholarly attention

The premierate of the legislative bill A.S. 935/2023: criticism and perspectives
935, relating to the introduction of the direct election of the Prime Minister, of which some particularly problematic points are analysed. With this bill, there would be the transition from the parliamentary form of government to the so-called «premiered», with direct popular legitimacy and support from a parliamentary majority guaranteed by an anti-reversal rule and an electoral prize. Although it presents itself as a surgical reform since there are few constitutional provisions formally subject to the modification, the paper evaluates the consequences on the role and functions exercised by Parliament and the President of the Republic, which would dangerously compromise the balance between the different parts of the Constitutio
Language and governance of society. Reflections on the Labour Policy Lexicon of European Institutions
However, this direction coexists with the ECB’s strategy of maintaining a high unemployment rate for the purpose of countering the phenomena of monetary instability prescribed by Article 127 of the Treaty. This paper argues that, behind this convoluted institutional communication device, there is actually an intent to increase labor market participation for the purpose of disciplining wage dynamics. It is also argued that in order to provide appropriate incentives for labor force mobilization, EU institutions have used two different instruments depending on the institutional specificities of individual countries. In countries with a system of social security with a high degree of coverage, activation to work has relied on the establishment of a synallagmatic link between the disbursement of benefits and the assumption of a commitment by beneficiaries to actively search for work. In contrast, in countries without generalized anti-poverty programs such as Italy, the focus has been on squeezing pension spending, «guilty» of feeding a fabric of family-based social insurance micro-agencies that supposedly distort labor suppl
Incentives and disincentives for investments in the renewable energy sector: issues of entrustment and protection
The paper focuses on the interpretation of the principle of legitimate expectations given by the European and national jurisprudence, with specific reference to the complex legislation on incentives for the production of energy from renewable sources and proposes some considerations on the legal protection. The attitude of the Italian legislator is sometimes cautious, sometimes inclined to a hyperregulation of the matter. The jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court and administrative jurisprudence, on the one hand, and the Court of Justice of the European Union, on the other, seem to converge on the key points. The legitimate expectation that can be protected encounters a limit in the context of the balancing of interests underlying a regulatory innovation, without prejudice to the limit of non-retroactivity. The attitude of the Italian legislator sometimes contributes to feed uncertainty in the sector. In the role entrusted to them of seeking a balance between public interest to the achievement of the objectives of the cd. European Green Deal and private interest in the development of freedom of economic initiative, it would be desirable to activate analysis and study programs that last over time, limiting the use of emergency regulatory interventions or related to current contingencies, in order to encourage private economic initiative in one of the strategic sectors for the country’s ecological transition proces
Mediterranean transits. A poem by Marin Sorescu on the universal side of translation
The Mediterranean Sea has always been the place of necessary and impossible translations (Derrida). It is also the place of interminable translations starting from the Hebrew Bible (in the Greek language of Christianity to assume the character of universality with Latin) up to the present day. Starting from the French translation of a poem by the Romanian author Marin Sorescu, this study aims to highlight some aspects related to the temporal and spatial dimension of the Mediterranean Sea. The work is entitled Moi, le Méditerranéen, contained in the Traversarea collection (The crossing). Here, the lyric self, coming from the country of the Black Sea, feels a metaphysically belonging to the Mediterranean Sea and the Roman Empire following the arrival of Ovid in Tomi (the current port of Constanța, in Romania). The exiled Roman poet composed some of his verses in the language of the Getae, a language which would become the foundation for Romanian culture. Reading Sorescu, like reading the works of other “Mediterranean” writers (or metaphysically such), means paying attention to the cultural processes that have passed through this sea and that have left traces that are still visible in the unconscious abysses of writing. Their literature is a diaspora that subverts space, time, belonging, and follows routes which destabilize both eastern and western coordinates
From the forties until the beginning of the sixties one of the most discussed protagonists of the Italian literary scene is Domenico Rea, novelist, critic, and playwright. His narrative texts and the non-fiction production (which are his background in recent years and then subsequently became the privileged terrain of the writer’s voice) illuminate the distance from every folkloric and consolatory mythology and transform Naples into the gateway to all of Mediterranean Italy which is embodied in the Neapolitan people who find themselves identical to Barcelona or Istanbul. The harsh, expressionistic, plebeian, and visionary realism, the rooting in the language of the classics but also the option for a concise, smart, lightning fast and certainly modern syntactic cut, make Rea an atypical writer in the panorama of southern literary culture. The interesting correspondence between the Neapolitan writer and the managers of the most important publishing house of those years, Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori, testifies that the private and public world of Rea, is the same that feeds his fabulations. It allows to illuminate and interpret the magma from which his characters come to life and helps to better understand the man behind his stories.
The aim of this paper is to investigate the implicit expression of emotions in relation to representations of places in the so-called Israelkorpus, in particular in interviews with Jehuda Steinbach. Although the subject of the explicit expression of emotions in the Israelkorpus has been intensively investigated in recent years, the investigation of the implicit manifestations of emotions, however, has been rather marginalised. Nevertheless, the implicit expression of emotions plays a central role in this corpus. As the present analysis shows, because of their highly traumatic experiences, interviewees often have difficulties expressing their subjective emotional condition directly. After the theoretical discussion of the concepts of emotion and implicitness and after some methodological preliminary remarks, a qualitative analysis is conducted. The latter is mainly based on the innovative category of the so-called E-Implikatur theorised by Schwarz-Friesel, that can be defined as implicit emotional evaluation.
