    El género del «Amadís» impreso

This work analyzes the way in which Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo authorizes the «Amadís de Gaula» that he edited at the end of the 15th century. That is why he presented his potential readers with a work that fit the horizon of rhetorical expectations that they could expect from a historical work. A minor, marginal kind... but history nonetheless. To do so, he offered a very particular vision of the history genre in which a fictional story like «Amadís de Gaula» would have a place. Likewise, he cited some models of history and historians of indisputable prestige with which his work could be contrasted. Finally, he warned his readers that this new version appeared augmented with a string of exemplary and doctrinal speeches, so that its reading would ultimately be profitable and not simply entertainment; as expected from a history book.

The collection of letters by Ceccarella Minutolo, composed between the late 1460s and early 1470s, offers a rich set of epistles centered on the theme of the “quistioni d’amore”, a literary genre deeply rooted in the tradition of Boccaccio. The literary game of letter-writing involved some of the most distinguished figures of the era, from Alfonso, the Duke of Calabria, to don Ferrando de Guivara, Count of Belcastro, from Francesco Acciapaccia to Giovanni Albino, all gathered in a revived “corte d’amore”. From the discussion of these disputes, an intricate epistolary network emerged, revealing facets of courtly rituals and the sophisticated lifestyles of the upper patriciate of the Kingdom, where epistolary culture and literary practice were of central importance. The essay concludes with an interpretative suggestion: the author’s monastic status may have influenced her choice of the epistolary genre.

A series of marginal notations were added in the tenth century throughout the manuscript that is today divided between Cittá del Vaticano, Biblioteca apostolica vaticana, Reg. lat. 567 and Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, NAL 1604. The original content of these books comprises a martyrology, whose marginal additions locate it within the cathedral chapter of Sens, combined with a portion of a mass book, or sacramentary, which offers an ordo for the pre-baptismal scrutinies, set within Lent. Added throughout by various hands, the marginal notes extract from or cite authorities as broad as Pliny the Elder, Macrobius and Smaragdus of Saint-Mihiel, as well as Bede, Alcuin, Hrabanus Maurus, Wandelbert of Prüm and Isidore of Seville. The manuscript proves the intellectual resources available at Sens in the early medieval period, which is otherwise almost unattested in surviving manuscripts, and gives us precious access to what the canons there read, excerpted and pondered. Some texts may have had a role in the conflicts that engulfed Sens in the later tenth century. We also glimpse a focus on prognostication, and the manuscript offers no less than nine separate marginal texts for telling the future, particularly through dreams. The potential to see the future in dreams is also discussed, with erudite reference to classical texts, in otherwise unknown commentary or teaching texts added to the manuscript. This precious witness to the intellectual atmosphere of a key centre of Western Francia confirms that prognostication was not merely a folk practice in the Early Middle Ages, but rather a learned attempt to understand the world, which went on in dialogue with Christian teaching and classical science.A series of marginal notations were added in the tenth century throughout the manuscript that is today divided between Cittá del Vaticano, Biblioteca apostolica vaticana, Reg. lat. 567 and Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, NAL 1604. L’«Exhortatio adversus Turcos ad Alphonsum Hispaniae et Italiae regem» di Andrea Contrario

    No full text
The essay presents the oration that the humanist Andrea Contrario addressed, probably in 1456, to Alfonso the Magnanimous; it traces its plot characterized by high rhetorical formalization and a rich intertextuality, highlighting the topic of the opposition between Turks and Christians and bringing out reasons, expectations, ideological positions widespread in Naples, as in Italy and Europe. Particular attention is reserved for the motif of the laus of the sovereign (king, emperor, ἄναξ ἀνδρῶν, champion of all Christianity) that permeates the entire oration, and also constitutes the legitimacy for the author to speak on behalf of the Christian people, who expect from Alfonso the crusade against the wicked Turk to safeguard Christianity.

Modellazione informativa della città e realtà aumentata: il Progetto City Augmented Reality for the Environment-CARE

    No full text
New technologies, applied to urban planning processes, are increasingly assuming a central role as a tool to support planners in decision-making processes, orienting design choices towards sustainable solutions that are compatible with the available resources. The phenomena triggered by the relationship between planning processes and new technologies are able to able, among other things, to enable new experiential modes capable of creating alternative levels of knowledge of the city to the traditional ones. In particular, information digitizing processes, necessary for the development of the city information model, better known as Urban Digital Twin (UDT), and Augmented Reality (AR) tools represent an innovative resource at the service of territorial governance policies (Fistola & Zingariello, 2024). Starting from these reflections, the project City Augmented Reality for the Environment-CARE, developed by the AURUS research group, was created with the aim of simulating new design choices and test them in terms of economic, environmental and social sustainability. &nbsp

Unmasking the Effects of Airbnb in Barcelona

    No full text
The negative effects of tourism in mature destinations is a central debate in academia and everyday public life. The rise of tourism in the city of Barcelona was originally driven by the 1992 Olympic Games, which put it on the map of potential destinations of interest. Since then, the number of international visitors has increased year after year. This has also led to an increase in tourist accommodation in the city centre and its surrounding neighbourhoods, a rise in tourismophobia, and reactions from local administration in the form of institutional actions and public strategies. Specifically, this research analyses the volume and growth of homestays in the central touristic neighbourhoods of Barcelona (those in the Ciutat Vella district) and its effects in relation to gentrification, immigration density, protests by social movements, political reactions, heritage and community spirit. The main objective is to look in depth at the interests of different stakeholders and ways to keep the city centre attractive not only for tourists but also for local and immigrant residents, preserving their sense of belonging and attachment to the place. The secondary data used in this research was taken from records of officially registered tourist houses (Government of Catalonia), Open Data (Barcelona municipality), the InsideAirbnb website, Incasol and the Municipal Register of Inhabitants. The primary data was collected via in-depth interviews with local residents, leaders of social movements and political representatives. The results reveal that the priorities among the key actors are policy design and the reconciliation of all the different interests
