Asymptotically Fast Arithmetic in the Picard Group of Algebraic Curves & Related Topics
This thesis provides algorithms that constitute a toolkit to efficiently compute in the degree zero Picard group of algebraic curves of large genus over a field k. To the author’s knowledge, these algorithms are the first algorithms ever to implement the arithmetic in Picard groups for reducible and singular curves. The problem of computing in the degree zero Picard group is reduced to fast linear algebra over k[x] in dimension n and degree cX resulting in an asymptotic running time of O∼(nωcX). Here n denotes the degree of the given finite morphism π : X → P1k and cX an invariant of (X, π). We are able to prove that if X is irreducible and g denotes the genus of X, then cX ≈ g/n. Furthermore, if X is reducible with irreducible components X1, . . . , Xm, then cX ≈ max{gi/ni} where gi is the genus of Xi and ni = deg(π|Xi )

The present contribution deals with the pad matrix, the characteristic configuration of mostly 4×4 or 8×8 pads, respectively, by which numerous hardware samplers since AKAI’s MPC 60 (1988) are controlled and which is also used in current controllers such as the Ableton Push and Native Instruments’ MASCHINE, so that it is deemed today to be a standard interface for sample-based instruments. However, as I would like to show, that inconspicuous collection of silicone buttons is not only an extremely successful control module for a specific type of musical instruments, but it also enables an experimental approach to contents of cultural education. For that sort of reinterpreting instrumental practices of sampling into practices of negotiating and imparting knowledge I will introduce the concept of instrumental mediation. In this context, the contribution addresses questions concerning the instrumentality of controllers, the auditory exploitation of knowledge, and sampling as a practice of both knowledge and science

Risk and Protective Factors Associated With Parental Separation and Divorce of Pupils - A Systematic Review
Objective: Teachers should use risk and protective factors that influence the adjustment of children’s mental health after legal guardians’ as well as parents’ separation or divorce (PSOD) to adjust the school environment to prevent mental health issues. The purpose of this study is to provide this knowledge and propose corresponding changes to the school environment.
Methods: A systematic review on this association is conducted which searches for quantitative articles from 2005 to 2022 to produce strong guidance. Four databases are searched with keywords that yield 1453 results. 10 of these studies are included in the analysis.
Results: Five group patterns of risk and protective factors are identified. They are used to propose changes to the school environment such as awareness and communication training for consulting teachers, resilience and coping training especially for younger pupils as well as providing time for play and a sense of achievement so that pupils can focus their attention on other aspects and pupils and parents can activate protective resources. To consult early, schools should provide sex education which deals with healthy relationships so that pupils realize unhealthy patterns in their parents’ relationship and complement this with different communication channels for parents and pupils for a low barrier offer of help.
Conclusion: The findings suggest incorporating the proposed changes to provide a school environment that lets pupils develop their mental health amidst the effects of PSOD. Further research should develop a guideline so that the proposed changes can easily be applied. Moreover, future research should investigate how a drop in pupils’ learning outcomes can be prevented and how a response-to-intervention-model (RTI) can incorporate
both this and the findings of this study
The effect of antioxidant enzymes on the hearing performance in different mouse lines
Harmful impact of oxidative stress on cochlear structures is proposed as a contributing factor to sensorineural hearing loss. This thesis investigated how the missing function of Glutathione Peroxidase 1 (Gpx1), an major antioxidant enzyme counteracting oxidative stress, affects the hearing performance of mice before and after noise exposure (NE). Gpx1 KO mice had a reduced hearing performance. The hearing performance of middle-aged Gpx1 KO mice with NE did not decline further. As young Gpx1 KO mice were reported to show NIHL, this thesis suggests a critical role of ribbon maturity during NE for NIHL. Effects of Gpx1 KO on the hearing performance were partially rescued by supplementary expression of alternative oxidase (AOX). Surprisingly, mice with AOX expression were more susceptible to NE than control mice. The results suggested, that ATP supply during NE may be more crucial for auditory-nerve fiber survival than the risk of being damaged by increased reactive oxygen species levels
