CHANGING GENDER ROLES, MARITAL INSTABILITY AND RISING DIVORCE RATES IN ILEMELA DISTRICT, TANZANIA

    Get PDF
The increasing divorce rate in Ilemela District, Tanzania, reflects major transformations in gender roles and marital expectations. This study investigates how changing gender dynamics influence marital instability by examining the experiences of divorced couples, married partners, and key informants such as social welfare officers, court officials, and religious leaders. Using a qualitative, cross-sectional design, data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Participants were purposively selected for their lived experiences or professional expertise in marital issues. Thematic analysis, facilitated by NVivo software, revealed that women’s growing participation in both income-generating and domestic responsibilities has redefined traditional household roles. These shifts often generate conflict, particularly when men find it difficult to adjust to new gender expectations. Furthermore, the increasing awareness of gender equality and women’s rights has transformed patterns of decision-making and authority within marriages, leading to disputes and unmet expectations between spouses. The findings suggest that the clash between traditional cultural norms and modern gender relations is a key factor driving divorce in the district. The study concludes that promoting marital stability requires culturally sensitive approaches that recognize evolving gender roles. Interventions such as premarital and marital counseling, gender dialogue programs, and improved spousal communication can help couples navigate these transitions more effectively. Overall, the study underscores the need for community-based strategies that balance gender empowerment with mutual understanding and cooperation in marriage, thereby fostering more resilient and harmonious marital relationships

    Get PDF
The goal of resource sharing in academic libraries is to maximize the availability of materials and services at the minimum cost. In this article, the researcher has considered the research done after 2000 to analyze. Some of the common areas of resource sharing in academic libraries that the researchers have identified are inter-library loan, exchange of publications, cooperative acquisition, cataloguing and classification, sharing of bibliographical data, preparation and maintenance of union catalogue and union list of serials, networking, exchange of library expertise and personnel etc. Later on, building up consortia made it convenient for academic libraries to share their resources. Even though there are barriers to resource sharing such as technology/infrastructure barriers, financial challenges, manpower limitations and legal, political and administrative barriers, the researchers have emphasized the importance of resource sharing among academic libraries

GREEN TRANSPORTATION: A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK IN CAMPUS-TO-CITY INTEGRATED PUBLIC TRANSPORT

    Get PDF
The importance of campus-to-city integrated public transport lies in its ability to reduce reliance on private vehicles, decrease traffic congestion, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, thereby significantly contributing to climate action. However, comprehensive strategies for enhancing campus-to-city integrated public transport are still limited. This study aims to identify key areas of intervention and indicators for effective analysis of campus-to-city integrated public transport through an integrative literature review. The goal is to provide a conceptual framework that scholars and practitioners can apply in empirical studies across various institutions. The results from this conceptual analysis are also suitable for educational purposes and future research at Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah Sabak Bernam. This framework supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 13 (Climate Action), promoting sustainable urban mobility solutions and contributing to broader goals of sustainable development

BEYOND THE VEIL: LEGITIMACY CRISES, CIVIL DISSENT, AND THE STRUGGLE FOR IDENTITY IN POST-ISLAMIC REPUBLIC IRAN

    Get PDF
The political panorama of Iran today is defined by the catastrophic decline brought about by more than four decades of clerical mismanagement. Since 1979, a nation once celebrated for its modernization, rising prosperity, and international stature under the Pahlavi monarchy has been reduced to economic collapse, international isolation, and basic infrastructure failures, including chronic shortages of electricity and water. This paper examines the crises of legitimacy eroding the Islamic Republic, the roots of public dissent, and the growing calls for systemic change. By contrasting the achievements of the Pahlavi era with the failures of the post-1979 regime, it argues that a constitutional monarchy offers a credible path toward restoring stability, unity, and progress. The study employs qualitative methods, including historical analysis, discourse analysis of political speeches, archival research, and thematic examination of protest slogans and media narratives. It also incorporates quantitative methods, such as statistical analysis of economic indicators (GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, poverty rates), public opinion polling, and protest participation data. This mixed-methods approach provides both the empirical and contextual depth needed to assess Iran’s political trajectory and evaluate the viability of a constitutional monarchy as a unifying and stabilizing alternative

GENDER DISPARITIES IN EDUCATION AND POVERTY REDUCTION: EVIDENCE FROM ANGLOPHONE WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES

    Get PDF
This study examines the impact of gender disparities in education on poverty reduction across Anglophone West African (AWA) countries. Using panel data from 1990 to 2023, the analysis adopts a random-effects model to explore the relationship between the gender parity index, poverty gap, and macroeconomic variables such as the consumer price index and exchange rates. The findings reveal a significant negative correlation between gender disparities and poverty reduction, emphasizing the critical role of gender equality in education for fostering inclusive economic growth. Moreover, exchange rate is shown to significantly influence poverty reduction, while inflationary pressures exacerbate economic inequality. The study underscores that integrating gender-sensitive education policies with macroeconomic stability can create a synergistic effect, improving poverty reduction and driving sustainable economic growth in the region. Policy recommendations include providing equitable access to education for girls, addressing cultural barriers to gender equality, and fostering an inclusive labour market to enhance women\u27s economic participation. These insights highlight the necessity of targeted, context-specific strategies for achieving long-term poverty alleviation and economic resilience in the AWA region

FROM EXILE TO POWER: CAN REZA PAHLAVI UNITE A BROKEN NATION?

    Get PDF
This study, From Exile to Power: Can Reza Pahlavi Unite a Broken Nation?, examines the political potential of Reza Pahlavi, the exiled Crown Prince of Iran, as a unifying figure in the post-Islamic Republic era. The research situates Pahlavi within the historical context of the Pahlavi dynasty (1925–1979). It contrasts the modernization achievements of that period with the authoritarianism, corruption, and socio-political decline that followed the 1979 Islamic Revolution. By employing a qualitative methodology, the paper draws upon historical narratives, discourse analysis of the crown prince\u27s public statements and media presence, and comparative case studies of other exiled leaders who sought to reclaim political legitimacy. The study also evaluates the current political climate inside Iran—marked by fragmented opposition movements, widespread public dissent, and the paradox of international sanctions—and assesses how these dynamics influence the potential role of the crown prince as a symbolic and practical leader. The findings suggest that while challenges such as factionalism within the opposition and scepticism among Iranians remain, the crown prince\u27s combination of historical legitimacy, diaspora influence, and advocacy for secular democratic governance uniquely positions him as a potential unifying figure. The article concludes by presenting possible scenarios for Iran\u27s political future, ranging from a best-case restoration of stability under a constitutional monarchy to continued stagnation under clerical rule

    Get PDF
This study aims to determine the relationship between financial development and economic growth with respect to the state of institutional quality on 3 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, namely, Oman, Qatar and United Arab Emirates from 2008 to 2022. Using the dynamic generalized method of moments in a panel data analysis, we found that financial development has a positive effect on economic growth. Equally important, the institutional quality plays a significant and positive role in economic growth. More interestingly, the study finds that the institutional development is complementary to financial development. As a policy implication, we recommend that policymakers place special importance on implementing policies that result in the deepening of financial systems, including a sound institutional framework. Thus, by promoting the development of a country’s financial system, economic growth will be accelerated
