Breast cancer has remained a major public health issue globally but predominantly affects women in developing nations. The overall survival rate of Nigerian women with breast cancer is low and patients with early breast cancer tend to have better survival than those with advanced distic basis and pathology. These changes are leading to revisions in the management of the disease with a positive impact on prognosis. The current research was done to describe the epidemiological and histopathological features of breast cancer amongst females attending the Federal Medical Center, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. In this retrospective study, 178 breast specimens were used, spanned from 2010 to 2022. Results presented an age at diagnosis lower to the Western population and invasive ductal carcinoma as the main histological type. In this study, the prevalence of breast cancer amongst females attending Federal Medical Center, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria was analyzed using Hematoxylin and Eosin staining techniques on breast cancer samples collected over the study period. The pathophysiology of breast cancer is not very clear; however, some risk factors are. While some common risk factors are advancing age and the female gender, genetic mutations—namely BRCA 1 and 2—account for only about 10% of breast cancers. The role played by biomarkers, such as estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and human epidermal growth factor receptors, in the detection and management of patients with breast cancer. Human breast cancer is known to be dependent on sexual hormones for its growth, as it is derived from breast tissue that normally responds to endogenous hormones. Despite improvements in early detection and therapy, Breast Cancer remains one of the major burdens to healthcare systems and societies

In recent years, the medical and health industry has become a new engine for global economic development. As a cluster of industries, the level of world's medical and health industry varies. Standards, as a comprehensive reflection and strategic resource of the competitiveness of enterprises, industries, regions, and even countries, have become an important experience and basic consensus for economic development at home and abroad. This article conducts research on the current status of standardization in the pharmaceutical and health industry both domestically and internationally. This study mainly analyzes the bilateral trade volume and industrial structure of pharmaceutical products between China and countries along the “Belt and Road” (BR), and empirically analyzes the influencing factors of pharmaceutical products trade between China and countries along the "Belt and Road" according to the trade situation. Using the explicit comparison index, the trade complementarity index, and the trade intensity index, select fifteen countries that are representative of the trade of pharmaceutical products in China and the regions along "the Belt and Road." Then, divide pharmaceutical products into traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine. Finally, analyze the problems and challenges that are associated with pharmaceutical products in China and sample countries. Through comparative analysis of organizational structure, standard system, and standard formulation and revision, combined with the practical experience of standardization in BR countries' pharmaceutical and health industry trade, measures and suggestions are proposed on how to accelerate the role of adjustment in pharmaceutical and health industry trade

Hospital Prevalence of Sickle Cell Disease in Children Under 5 Years of Age in a Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo

    Get PDF
Backgroung: The burden of sickle cell disease in hospitals is less described in both children and adults where there is a lack of universal screening programs. This is more observed in low-income countries and compromises the life expectancy of people with unrecognized major sickle cell disease. The objective of this study was to estimate the more or less concrete burden of sickle cell disease in pediatric hospitals, mainly in children under 5 years of age. Materials & methods: To do this, a cross-sectional and descriptive survey was carried out at the level of the pediatric services of 5 health facilities of the City of Kindu, capital of the province of Maniema in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from December 2, 2019 to October 15, 2020, that to say 10 months. It consisted mainly in the systematic screening of the electrophoretic profile of children under 5 admitted to the said health facilities using a rapid test. Results: The analyzes showed that the hospital prevalence of major sickle cell disease was 12.7%. The mean age of children with major sickle cell anemia was 41 ± 18 months. The median age was 48 months with the extreme ages 2 and 59 months. The 48 to 59 months age group was represented with 56.1% of children with SS sickle cell disease. The prevalence of sickle cell status was significantly associated with age group (p <0.0001). The sex ratio M/F was 1.1. The sickle cell status was independent of the sex of the child. Conclusion: The findings of this study show that the burden of sickle cell disease in pediatric hospitals and mainly in children under 5 years of age is underestimated in the absence of systematic screening. Faced with the delay in the implementation of universal screening in Africa, systematic hospital screening of all children and mainly those under 5 years of age using rapid tests will improve diagnosis and life expectancy of patients with major sickle cell anaemia
