Effect of Addition of Banana Peel Extract on Commercial Feed as an Effort to Reduce Patin Cannibalism (Pangasius hypophthalmus) Larval Stage
This research aims to determine the best concentration of banana peel extract used in commercial feed on the survival of patin fish larvae. The research was conducted on April 2, 2019 until June 1, 2019 which took place at the Aquaculture Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University. The making of banana peel extract was carried out at the Central Labforatory, Padjadjaran University. The research method was carried out experimentally with Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This research uses five treatments that are repeated three times. The treatment in this research consisted of the addition of banana peel extract on commercial feed at a dose of 0%, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00 and 1.25% per kilogram of feed. The parameters observed in this research were survival, absolute length growth, daily growth rate, and water quality. The analysis used is the f test and descriptive analysis. Parameters tested using the f test include survival, absolute length growth, and daily growth rate. While water quality was tested descriptively. Survival rates, absolute length growth, and growth rates ranged from 75.33% to 86.96%, 1.29 - 1.32 cm and 2.95% -3.00% respectively. The observation of water quality include temperature, pH and DO respectively waters ranged from 28.00 to 30.20 °C, 7.22 to 8.18 and 5.40 to 6.70 mg /L. Based on research results concluded that the concentration of banana peel extract 0% - 1% produced a survival rate of 81.70% - 86.96% and was better than the addition of banana peel extract with a concentration of 1.25% which resulted in a survival rate of 75.53%. The suggestion from this study is to improve the survival of patin fish larvae can be added banana peel extract with a concentration of 0.75% or equivalent to 7.5 g / Kg of feed
Effects of Hyperthermia on Erythrocyte Parameters of Carp Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus, 1758) from Bardaca Swamp, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Thermal changes in water cause many metabolic changes that manifest themselves in physiological fish adaptations. The analysis of hematologic and biochemical blood parameters provides important information on environmental influences on the health status of fish. The hematocrit (HCT) (l/l), hemoglobin concentration (Hb) (g/l), mean corpuscular volume (MCV) (fl), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) (pg), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) (g/l) and red blood cells (RBC) (x1012/L) were analyzed. Animals were grouped into two groups: control (n=10) and experimental (n=16).
The experimental fish were exposed to 28°C for 30 min. Puncture of the heart was done and the blood without anticoagulant was analyzed. During hyperthermia, an increase in hematological parameters was observed, except for MCV values that were low. Significant differences were established only for the number of erythrocytes and the hematocrit values (p<0.05).
The results showed a decrease in MCV and an increase in the value of other erythrocyte parameters. Significant changes in the number of erythrocyte and hematocrit values were found. Some hematological parameters such as erythrocyte and MCV values are significant stress indicators and can serve us as important factors for physiological adaptations of fish.
The carp shows excellent ability to adjust to temperature variations that can be seen through the analysis of hematological status
The Effect of Partial Replacement of Fishmeal with Citrullus lanatus and Moringa oleifera Seed Meals on Growth Performance of Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) Juveniles
Four experimental diets were formulated to contain Citrullus lanatus, Moringa oleifera seed meal, Citrullus lanatus and Moringa oleifera seed meals as partial replacement for fishmeal (Treatment 2, 3 and 4 respectively) and Treatment 1 as control, which included fishmeal and soy bean meal as the protein sources. The fed were to one hundred and twenty (120) African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) of mean weight of 25±5.0 g and mean length of 14±2.0 cm in replicates for 10 weeks growth period. The results obtained showed that fish fed treatment 3 had highest mean weigh gain. More so, treatment 1 had the highest percentage weight gain and specific growth rate. Treatment 4 had the highest food conversion ratio and treatment 1 had the highest length increase. The result of the economic analysis of the four treatments showed the treatment 4 and 3 are the cheapest while treatment 1 is the most expensive. All the treatment diets showed that growth due to the different protein sources were not significant (p>0.05). The result of this study therefore revealed that partial replacement of fishmeal with Moringa oleifera seed meal can be used in the diet of Clarias gariepinus juveniles
The Efficiency Handline Fishing Gear in Gorontalo Regency, Indonesia
The aim of this study was to know the technical efficiency handline fishing gear and allocative efficiency (price) handline fishing gear as well as economic efficiency handline fishing gear in the village Kayubulan Batudaa District of Gorontalo Province.,This study uses quantitative descriptive analysis of the data by using DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) to measure the technical efficiency and CBA (Cost Benefit Analysis) to measure allocative efficiency (price) and the analysis of economic efficiency is the result of technical efficiency and allocative efficiency (price). Analyzing technical efficiency using software DEAP version 2.1. The results showed that the technical efficiency (ET) note that the value of the average value of technical efficiency obtained at0788or <1, meaning that the fishing effort handline fishing is still technically efficient. On average allocative efficiency/price (EH) obtained by3,881or> 1, so the fishing effort by handline fishing gear has been efficient in the allocative. The average economic efficiency obtained for3091 or> 1, so the average fishing effort by handline fishing gear is already economically inefficient
Dietary Effects of Tiger Nut (Cyperus esculentus) on Egg and Milt Quality of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) Broodstocks (Burchell, 1822)
The dietary effect Tiger nut (Cyperus esculentus) seed powder was examined on the egg and milt quality of African catfish broodstock.45 Female catfish broodstock of average body weight, 475 ± 25.00g and male catfish broodstock of average body weight, 487.09±13.57 g. Five diets with crude protein of 40% were formulated with different inclusion levels of Cyperus esculentus seed powder; 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 g per 100 g of experimental diet (D1, D2 ,D3, D4 and D5). The experiment was carried out for 70 days and fish fed twice daily at 3% body weight. Fish fed experimental diets showed significantly improved growth performance and reproductive indices over the control treatment. Fish fed D3 had the highest weight gain (173.6±10.98) in female catfish while D5 had highest weight gain (215.17±11.62) in male catfish. Fish fed with D4 had the highest percentage fertilization (93.00±3.05) and percentage hatchability (85.00±2.64) in female catfish while in male catfish the highest percentage fertilization (94.00±1.29) and hatchability (79.17±10.09) was from D5. Percentage survival and gonadosomatic index was higher in fish fed D5 in both female and male catfish. Histology of fish fed with Cyperus esculentus diets revealed oocytes formation within the ovaries. Ovary of fish fed D1 showed primary oocytes, with primary yolk accumulation in the ovary of fish fed D2 and there were improvement in the oocytes. Fish fed D3, D4 and D5 showed more matured oocytes and ripe yolk of late maturing stage. There was reduced seminiferous tubular lumen and scanty spermatozoa in D1 and D2 and there was high spermatozoa density in the seminiferous lumen seen in the testicular histology of fish fed diets D3, D4 and D5. This result revealed that dietary inclusion of Cyperus esculentus seed powder enhance growth and improves fertility in Clarias gariepinus which will improve the quantitiy of its seed production
Water Quality Distribution in Situ Gunung Putri Bogor Regency, Indonesia
The purpose of this study was to determine water quality distribution in Situ Gunung Putri. This research was conducted from February to March 2019, carried out in Situ Gunung Putri and at the Limnology Research Center of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, both located in Bogor, West Java. The method used was the survey method. The results showed that, at the surface level, the temperature ranged between (28.14±0.52 and 30.61±1.76)°C, transparency between (0.38±0.12 and 0.65±0.06) m, dissolved oxygen (DO) was between 1.92±1.10 and 5.7± 2.55 mg / L, chemical oxygen demand (COD) was between 42.22±9.86 and 54.09±15.89, nitrate between (0.047±0.009 and 0.05±0.015) mg / L, phosphate of (0.015±0.002 and 0.022± 0.004) mg / L and pH was between 7.11± 0.27 and 7.33 ±0.34. Meanwhile at the Secchi depth values of the temperature ranged between (2.93±0.71 and 29.96 ±1.71)°C, DO was 1.14 ±0.90 and 3.37±1.63 mg / L, nitrate was 0.045±0.008 and 0.056±0.019 mg / L, phosphate was 0.016±0.003 and 0.035± 0.043 mg / L and pH was between 6.68± 0.33 and 7.11 ±0.28. Based on these values water quality parameters except COD in Situ Gunung Putri is still at the optimal range for aquatic organisms
Growth of Juvenile Striped Catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) and Water Quality in Aquaponics System
This study aims to determine the growth of striped catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) in aquaponic systems in different plants. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Aquaculture, Ciparanje, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran from June to July 2017. The method used in this study was the experimental method using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 4 times replication. Treatment A: Biofilter by treatment of water spinach plants, Treatment B: Biofilter by treatment of lettuce plants, Treatment C: Biofilter by treatment of scallions plants, and Treatment D: Control (unfiltered). The measured parameters in this study were fish growth and water quality which includes level of nitrate, ammonia and phosphate in the water. The results showed that the highest fish specific growth rate in treatment A 0.0395±0.0039% with a survival rate of 93.125±13.75% followed by treatments B and C, while the water quality parameters including nitrate, ammonia and phosphate concentrations ranged from 0.042 -1,806 mg / l; 0.003-0.084 mg / l; 0.036-2,342 mg / l
Human Health Risks Due to Fish Consumption from Nile River at Beni-Suef-Governorate- Egypt
Aims: The present study aimed to determine the growth indices of the Nile Tilapia, detected levels of Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cr in muscles of Tilapia and expected the potential adverse human health risks according to USEPA methodologies.
Study Design: The design of the study depended on the determination of the impact of the drainage waste water on the fish quality, ecosystem health and human health.
Place and Duration of the Study: the study investigated five sampling sites, two sites in the Torrent drainage channel and three sites on the Nile River during winter and summer seasons of 2014-2015 at Beni-Suef governorate in Egypt.
Methodology: Fish tissue samples were dried at 105°C for 6 hours, burned in a muffle furnace for 6 hours at 550°C, acid-digested, and diluted with deionized water to known volume using the dry-ashing procedure. All the digested samples were analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (Perkin-Elmer, Model 2380). Analytical blanks were run in the same way as the samples, and standard solutions were prepared in the same acid matrix.
Results: Metals were found to accumulate in fish muscles at the following order Zn> Cu> Cr> Pb. Levels of Zn and Pb exceeded the permissible limits of the world health organization (WHO) especially during summer season. The calculated hazard quotients for all the detected metals did not pose unacceptable risks at both consumption rates, but the excessive and continuous consumption of fish from the current sampling sites could induce cancer for habitual consumers.
Conclusion: The present study could be considered as a beginning for further investigations for the health status of Nile River aquatic ecosystems and human populations feeding on fish produced from the study area
Performance of Lettuce and Water Spinach in Koi Fish-based Aquaponics System
This research aims to determine the growth of lettuce and water spinach plants used as biofilter in koi fish (Cyprinus carpio) aquaponic system. Research was carried out at the Laboratory of Fisheries, Ciparanje, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran from March to April 2018. Research was carried out experimentally using Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 2 treatments and 6 repetitions. The treatments were a combination of koi and water spinach, and a combination of koi and lettuce. The parameters observed were fish growth, fish survival, increase in length of plant stems and increase in leaf strands. The combination of koi fish and water spinach plants produced the highest productivity of plants, with stem length of 39 cm and the addition of 15 leaflets. This combination also produced the highest absolute growth of 3.93 grams / fish and survival rate of 100%
Culture of Moina macrocopa Using Different Types of Organic Wastes
Moina macrocopa was cultured with different animal manures (chicken manure, pig manure and cow manure) and food waste to determine the impact of these food sources on its mass production. All diets were provided at five different concentrations: 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 and 10000 ppm. Gross and net reproductive rates were higher in 1000 ppm concentration of food waste medium and the highest average population growth was obtained of about 9 org mL-1 whereas pig manure treatment showed the lowest among all the culture medium. The highest population density was observed in low concentration treatments, on the contrary, higher concentrations showed an adverse effect on M. macrocopa cultivation. The results of this study suggest that 1000 ppm concentration of food waste produces better results than other animal manures which showed the highest population density and exhibited a comparatively higher percentage of highly unsaturated fatty acids than the other treatments and could be an inexpensive and sustainable cultivation approach of Moina macrocopa
