The Strategy of Sindangkerta Marine Tourism Objects Development, in Tasikmalaya, West Java
This research was held in Sindangkerta Village and Sindangkerta Marine Wildlife Reserve, Sindangkerta Village, Cipatujah District, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java Province. The implementation started in October 2019 until June 2020. The research aims to analyze the social and economic aspects of Sindangkerta Marine Tourism Object for the local neighborhood and to analyze the development strategy of the Sindangkerta marine conservation area. The research employed case study method in Sindangkerta Marine Wildlife Reserve by collecting primary and secondary data. Furthermore, the collected data processed with puposive sampling method via Microsoft Office Excel with SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis. The research resulted the villagers hasn’t been implemented the current system, according to the entire villagers they hope that the Sindangkerta Marine Wildlife Reserve Area potential can be further developed in order to provide more benefits for them. The best strategy for Sindangkerta Marine Wildlife Reserve development using SWOT Analysis in Quadrant I, by applying SO or an aggressive growth strategy with a coordinate point of 0.02; 1.10 means utilizing the strength to exploit the existed opportunities
Population Dynamics and Management of Invasive Blue Tilapia (Oreochromis aureus) in Garmat Ali River, Basrah, Iraq
The blue tilapia, Oreochromis aureus is an invasive species that has successfully established itself in most of the Iraqi waters. However, there is little information on the population dynamics of the species in these waters. Hence, the growth parameters, mortality rates, probability of capture, recruitment pattern and yield per recruit of blue tilapia in Garmat Ali River, Iraq was assessed using FiSAT II software. A total of 1664 blue tilapia fish were collected by different fishing gears from October 2019 to September 2020 for recording the relevant data. The length-weight relationship obtained was W=0.0147*L3.0748 for fish ranging from 7.5 to 26.3 cm total length suggesting that the species shows positive allometric growth. The asymptotic length (L∞), growth constant (K), theoretical age at zero-length (t0), growth performance index (Ø\u27) and longevity (tmax) were 29.9 cm, 0.205, -1.293, 2.345 and 10.7 years, respectively. The total mortality (Z), natural (M), fishing (F) and exploitation (E) were 1.09, 0.61, 0.48 and 0.43, respectively. Length at first capture (L50) was found to be 13.92 cm. The main recruitment pulse was from March to July with a peak in April, which account for 18.4% of the total recruitment in the year. The relative yield per recruit analysis revealed that the present exploitation rate (Epresent) for blue tilapia was below than the biological target reference points (E0.1 and Emax), which denotes that this stock was not over-exploited. For management purposes, higher yields can be achieved by reducing the mesh sizes of the nets during fishing
In vitro Detoxification of Aflatoxin B1 by Calcium Bentonite Clay Supplementation in Aflatoxigenic Mould Contaminated Feeds for Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Aflatoxins are toxic, carcinogenic secondary metabolites mainly produced by Aspergillus flavus fungi that is often detected in food and agricultural commodities. Calcium bentonite clay has been used historically as an anti-caking agent and a feed binder and demonstrated the ability to bind aflatoxins. Feed samples were prepared for Nile tilapia to determineaflatoxin detoxification properties of calcium bentonite clay. 0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2% of this clay was incorporated into Aspergillus flavus contaminated feed and labeled as TF1, TF2, TF3, TF4, and TF5 respectively. The determination and quantification of aflatoxins produced by the fungus in the feed samples were carried out by HPTLC method. The RF values of all the feed samples were confirmed to be the presence of aflatoxin B1 and AFB2, G1 and G2 toxins were not found in any of the samples. Results from this study revealed that the calcium bentonite clay at 2% effectively reduced AFB1 toxin by its adsorption properties. Moreover, calcium bentonite clay improved water stability, water absorption rate with minimal disintegration and nutrients leaching of feed samples in water
Population Parameters of Two Commercially Important Species belonging to the Family Sciaenidae Encountered in the Coast of Ghana
Population parameters for two commercially important fishes of Sciaenidae from the coastal waters of Ghana were assessed using length-frequency data obtained from August 2017 to June 2019. Samples of the assessed fish species were obtained through experimental fish trawl along the coast of Greater Accra, Ghana. Trawling was performed every quarter for an average of one hour at an average speed of 3.0 km/hr. In all, a total of 399 samples were measured and the obtained data were analyzed with FiSAT II. The assessed fish species included Pteroscion peli (165 samples) and Pseudotolithus senegalensis (234 samples). The asymptotic length (L∞) was 19.4 cm and 41.5 cm forPteroscion peli and Pseudotolithus senegalensis. Pteroscion peli and Pseudotolithus senegalensis recorded growth rate (K) of 0.48 and 0.50 per year respectively. Both assessed fish species exhibited continuous recruitment pattern with minor and major recruitment peaks. The total mortality rate (Z) was 1.86 and 1.63 per year for Pteroscion peli and Pseudotolithus senegalensis. The fishing mortality rate (F) was estimated at 0.66 and 0.63 per year for Pteroscion peli and Pseudotolithus senegalensis. The natural mortality rate (M) estimated for Pteroscion peli and Pseudotolithus senegalensis was 1.20 and 1.00 per year respectively. The exploitation rate (E) of Pseudotolithus senegalensis (0.39) and Pteroscion peli (0.36) respectively was far below the maximum exploitation rate (Emax), indicating under-exploitation of its fishery in the coastal waters of Ghana, hence the need to enhance the exploitation of these species
The Amount of Selected Heavy Metals in Water, Sediments and Fish Species from the Rupsha River, Khulna, Bangladesh
The present study was conducted to figure out the heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn) concentrations in water, sediments and fish species from the Rupsha River, Khulna, Bangladesh to spot the heavy metal contamination level. Heavy metals are dangerous because they\u27re non-biodegradable and having an extended half-life period. The heavy metal contamination could also be an excellent concern, especially for aquatic life. The metal concentration within the water sample from the Rupsha River was significantly above the rule values of WHO and USEPA respectively. Moreover, the concentration of metal within the sediments was also greater than the respective probable effect concentrations of the sediment quality guidelines. Furthermore, consistent with the fish standards, these studied fish species weren\u27t found to be contaminated by heavy metals. It’s concluded that each of the heavy metals from the whole sample didn\u27t exceed the standard maximum level. This study demonstrated that water of Rupsha River isn\u27t safe for aquatic organisms also like humans in terms of Pb, Cd and Cr contents as accumulated through consumption
Haematological Studies of Clarias gariepinus Exposed to Ethanolic Stem Bark Extracts of Ackee, Blighia sapida
The study evaluated effects of sub-lethal concentrations (0.00, 1.6, 3.2, 6.4, 12.8 g/l) of ethanolic stem bark extracts of ackee, Blighia sapida on haematological profile of Clarias gariepinus (mean weight, 6.95± 1.02 g; total length 11.7±1.32 cm). Each concentration was treated in triplicate using a static bioassay system. The exposure period was 21 days. Physico-chemical parameters of water were monitored throughout the study period. Results revealed that haematocrit, red blood cell, haemoglobin and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration counts were significantly (p<0.05) depleted with increase in extract concentration while white blood cell counts increased (p<0.05) linearly from 198.2, 198.5, 208.8, 219.4 and 241.53 x 103 cells/µl in 0.00, 1.6, 3.2, 6.4 and 12.8 g/l respectively. The levels of water temperature increased with extract concentrations while dissolved oxygen and pH contents decreased. The implications of these results showed that stem bark extract of ackee had negative effects on the blood of treated fish. This may further explain the decline in wild fishery resources in the locality where the plant parts were collected. In view of this, the direct use of this plant in harvesting fish by local fisher folks in Southern Nigeria should be discouraged until information that aid its application in a sustainable manner is made available through further studies
The Affection of Fine Bubbles (FBs) Application on Growth Siamese Catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) in Aquaponic System
This research aims was to determine the effective pressure on fine bubbles technology on the growth of Siamese catfish fry in the aquaponic system. This study uses a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications. Treatment A (Control), Treatment B (FBs at a pressure of 4,5 atm), Treatment C (FBs at a pressure of 5 atm and treatment D (FBs at a pressure of 5,5 atm). The parameters observed were Specific Growth Rate, Survival Rate and water quality (Temperature, pH, DO, Ammonia) Data were analyzed using variance with the F test at a 95% confidence level. The best treatment for catfish growth was treatment D (5,5 atm pressure), which gave the highest SGR value of 7,24% and the highest SR value of 100%. The value of water quality parameters were in good condition for the growth and survival of catfish
Contribution of Freshwater Aquaculture in Supporting the Economy of Pangandaran Regency
This research aims to determine the superior fish commodities and the contribution of freshwater aquaculture in the last five years in Pangandaran Regency. This research was in form of case study. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling or the selection of respondents deliberately (not randomly) as a sampling method. The result of the study were analyzed by Location Quotient (LQ) analysis techniques, value weighting analysis and Shift Share (SS) analysis based on income. The result showed that the superior fish commodity in Pangandaran were Barbonymus gonionotus, Osphronemus goramy and Giant freshwater prawn. The most freshwater culture fisheries contribution in Pangandaran over 5 years period analysis (2014-2018) was in 2014 reaching 0.92% to Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP)
Chemical Composition of Fish Head Flavor Crackers
This study aims to determine the chemical composition of fish flavor crackers. This research was carried out in the laboratory of the Integrated Basic Science Program at Padjadjaran University in January 2020. The method used in this research was the experimental method. The parameters observed in this study were moisture content, ash content, protein content and fat content in the most favourite flavor powder crackers (10%) with control (0%). Data from the measurement of chemical composition in crackers were analyzed by a comparative descriptive . Based on the result of this study it was found taht fish head flavor crackers had of moisture content of 4.17%, ash content of 2.94%, protein content of 0.40%, and fat content of 14.16%
Growth Performance of Giant Gourami (Osphronemus goramy) Fingerlings Cultured in Circular Containers with Water Current
This research aims to determine the application of different water currents in a round container that can provide the most optimal effect on the growth rate of giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy) fingerlings. The method used in this research was an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of three treatments and four replicates The treatment was the use of aeration stone in a round container A (control), B (water current 0.1 m s-1 in a round container) and C (water current 0.1 m s-1 combined with a venturi in a round container). The fish size used in this research was 2-3 cm obtained from Gourami and Nilem Breeding Centre, Singaparna, West Java Province. Fish were kept in water gallons with a volume of 19 L. Each gallon contained 30 fish. The feeding rate was 5% from biomass. The feed was given three times daily. Every ten days the weight data were collected and used for adjusting the feeding rate. The water quality during the research (40 days) was observed every seven days while survival rate, absolute weight growth, daily growth rate, feed conversion ratio and feed efficiency were observed every ten days. Based on the results of the research, the best reuslt was treatment C (water current of 0.1 m s-1 combined with venturi in a round container) had the highest survival rate (SR) of 58%, absolute weight growth (3.5 g), daily growth rate (1.69%), feed conversion ratio (2.01) and feed efficiency (50%)
