    Ghana’s Fisheries Policies; Evolution and Performance

    In 2018, Ghana’s fisheries contributed 1.1% to Gross Domestic Product and provided livelihood support to 2.4 million people. It is crucial for Ghana to build a compelling policy model and to safeguard its precious marine resources. For such an objective to be achieved researchers, the state and other stakeholders must particularly reflect on fisheries policies and outcome. Considering how weak and unstable institutions are in Ghana, this article seeks to analyse this acts and policies enacted by various governments in Ghana, concerning its transformation and execution. This research as well analysis the influence of these policies on the accessibility of marine resources in Ghana and transformed habit and livelihood of fishermen. We gathered even though certain policy guidelines were successful, the entire policy arrangement continues to be a pressing need of improvement because, the fisheries sector was undergoing a decreasing trend as a result illegal and over fishing. We further, discovered that motorization of canoes impacted positively to volume of fish captured and expansion of fishing areas. Nevertheless, the indication of decreasing in volumes of landings observed through the 1980s, alerted the government to consider the importance of exact procedures and regulations in other the safeguard and restore the marine ecosystem and it resources. We proffered a style of policy blueprint founded on stakeholder theory that act on challenges of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.     The Environmental Friendliness Level of Boat Bagan Fishing Gear in Belitung Regency

    This research aimed to analyze the environmental friendliness level of boar bagan towards the amount of fish caught by the fishermen in Belitung Regency Waters and determined fish composition based on the type and the length of fish. The research was conducted in August 2019. The primary data collection technique used was purposive sampling technique while the secondary data was obtained from Tanjungpandan Archipelago Fisheries Port (Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara Tanjungpandan/PPN). The research analyzed types of fish composition, proportion of main and bycatches, proportion of biologically worth caught fish, proportion of utilized catches, and eco-friendly analysis. Based on the results of research on the environmental friendliness level of boat bagan fishing gear in Belitung Regency Waters, it can be concluded that the boat bagan catch during the study obtained 10 species including fringescale sardinella (Sardinella fimbriata), spotted sardinella (Sardinella sirm), devis’ anchovy (Stoleporus devisi), squid (Loligo sp), short mackerel (Rastrelliger brachysoma), common ponyfish (Leiognathus equulus), largehead hairtail (Trichiurus sp), and yellowstrip scad (Selaroides leptolesis), large pelagic fish such as barracuda (Sphyraena sp), and demersal fish was also caught such as pufferfish (Tetraodo sp). Boat bagan fishing gear is classified as less environmentally friendly because 48% of fish caught was not mature, fish that are not the main target fish (bycatch) was 41%, and it catches more than 3 target fish species. However, the utilization of catch is quite good at 99,12%

    Awareness and Level of Adoption of Aquaculture Management Techniques in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria

    The study investigated the awareness and level of adoption of aquaculture management techniques in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. Purposive and random sampling techniques were adopted to select 60 fish farmers from the study area and data were collected from the fish farmers with the aid of well structured questionnaire administered to them face to face by the researchers and some trained enumerators. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as means score, percentage, tables, Likert scale and multiple regression analysis. The findings indicated that majority (60.00%) of the respondents were male, while 95.00% of the farmers were between the age of 21-60 years with 91.67% of the fish farmers educated and 61.67% of fish farmer are highly experienced with 6 years and above. The findings also revealed that majority of the farmers are aware of aquaculture management techniques in the study area with 70.00% getting information on these techniques from extension agents followed by 55.00% who relied on other fish farmers for relevant information about fish farming. The Likert scale result revealed that thirteen out of twenty – one aquaculture management techniques postulated were adopted while eight were not adopted implying that 61.90% of the postulated techniques were adopted by the fish farmers in the study area. The result of the regression analysis showed that level of awareness of techniques; access to credit facility and number of contact with extension agent were the three factors influencing adoption of aquaculture management techniques by the fish farmers in the study area. Lack of credits/ fund to adopt improved practice (75.00%), expensiveness of techniques (55.00%), complexity of techniques (55.00%), and lack of support from the government (51.67%), lack of adequate and proper information on these techniques (50.00%), lack of training (45.00%) and lack of awareness (33.33%) were identified as constraints affecting adoption of aquaculture management techniques in the study area. In conclusion, the study revealed that the farmers were aware and adopted good numbers of the aquaculture management techniques introduced to them The study recommends that farmers should establish cooperative society so that they can pool their resources and knowledge together in solving most of the problems identified

    Spatial Distribution of Macrozoobenthos as Bioindicators of Organic Material Pollution in the Citanduy River, Cisayong, Tasikmalaya Region, West Java, Indonesia

    The Cisayong area of ​​Tasikmalaya Regency is an area that is passed by the Citanduy River. Citanduy River has received a variety of inputs, that affect the river water quality and cause pollution. Macrozoobenthos can be used as an indicator of water pollution. This research aims to determine the spatial distribution of the macrozoobenthic community as a bioindicator of organic matter pollution in the Citanduy River, Cisayong Tasikmalaya Region, West Java. This research was conducted on January 2 - March 3, 2020. The research method used a field survey method. The data collection technique used purposive sampling by determining 4 stations based on environmental factors and land use around the river flow. The results of the macrozoobenthic spatial distribution along the Citanduy River were different at each observation location. At station 1 several intolerant species Heptagenia sp., Leptophelbia sp., and Hydropsyche sp. Were found, station 2 found several facultative species Melanoides tuberculata, Lymnea sp., Tarebia granifera, Sulcosfira testudinaria, Filopaludina javanica, and Pomacea canalicuta, station 3 found several tolerant species Chironomus sp., and Tubifex sp., station 4 were found several species of facultative and tolerant macrozoobenthos Melanoides tuberculata, Lymnea sp., Tarebia granifera, Sulcosfira testudinaria, Filopaludina javanica, Pomacea canalicuta, and Tubifex sp. The abundance of macrozoobenthos in the Citanduy River ranges from 1460-2540 ind/m2. Diversity index ranges from 1.53 to 1.79. The uniformity index ranges from 0.45 to 0.53. Species deficits at each station are different. The Morisita index ranges from 0.48 to 1.12 representing uniform categories and groups

    Spatial Distribution of Plankton in Cikeruh River, Jatinangor District, West Java Province, Indonesia

    Cikeruh River is a Citarum tributary that has received a lot of waste inputs, so that will affect the quality of river water and cause differences in aquatic fertility. Aquatic fertility can be determined by calculating plankton abundance and distribution. The purpose of this study was to map the spatial distribution of plankton along the Cikeruh River. The study was conducted in June 2019 to August 2019  at five stations with the purposive sampling method. The parameters observed were physical and chemical parameters of waters, plankton abundance, diversity index, dominance index, species deficit, and Morisita index. The results showed that plankton was identified as many as 33 phytoplankton genera and six zooplankton genera, the spatial distribution of plankton in the Cikeruh River was different at each station, at station 1 consisted of 14 phytoplankton genera, station 2 27 phytoplankton genera, station 3  24 phytoplankton genera, station 4 25 phytoplankton genera, and at station 5 was  found 22 phytoplankton  genera. The abundance of plankton obtained ranges from 1823-5972 ind/L. Phytoplankton diversity index obtained from ranges 0.71-0.84, while the zooplankton ranges 0.17-0.32 with  phytoplankton dominance index 0.16-0.35 and zooplankton 0.68-0.83. Phytoplankton morisita index obtained from ranges 1.37-2.17, while the zooplankton ranges 1.03-2.31. Physical-chemical parameters observed as follows: Temperature 18.58ºC – 27.77ºC, light transparency 16,68 cm -31.92 cm, current 0.17 m/s -0.35 m/s, DO 3.35-8.05 mg/L, CO2 8.36 -37.05 mg/L, pH 7.53 – 8.66, BOD5 10.83 - 25.42 mg/L, Nitrate 0.18-0.26 mg/L,  phosphate 0.18-0.26. The physical and chemical parameters qualify for Indonesian  Government  Regulation  No. 82  of  2001  class II and III

    Analysis of Local Government Policies in the Development of Aquaculture in Bandung District, West Java, Indonesia 2019

    Bandung District is one district in the province of West Java, which has a lot of potentials, one of which is the aquaculture sector. According to data from the Department of Marine and Fisheries of West Java province in 2016, the number of fisheries production reached 13.326 tonnes of Bandung regency. The purpose of this study is to analyze and devise appropriate policy recommendations for the development of aquaculture in Bandung. The method used in this research was the case study method. Analysis of the data used in this research is using the Soft Systems Methodology approach. Based on the approach to the problem of unstructured problems using existing condition which includes technical and production aspects, institutional aspects and aspects of human resources. The research was conducted in July 2019 - August 2019 in Bandung. Respondents in this study consisting of 5 people from 3 cultivators and 2 people from government agencies. The draft recommendation for government policy in the development of aquaculture in Bandung District, including repair of infrastructure, spatial planning in allocating land fish breeding in the area of fisheries management area corresponding to the parameters by optimizing land, mentoring programs on a group of fish farmers and seedlings or capital as a common practice, it is often done socialized about government policy. The clarity of the rule of law for the perpetrators of fish farmers, facilitate the making of fisheries licenses and training and extension done regularly and intensely

    Primary Productivity of Jatigede Reservoirs in Sumedang, West Java

    Jatigede Reservoir is a reservoir located in Sumedang West Java which is built for irrigation, raw water, power generation, tourism, and capture fisheries. This research aims to determine the value of primary productivity as one of the indicators of the water body feasibility of the Jatigede reservoir to capture fisheries activities. The study was conducted in August – September 2019. Sampling is carried out at 4 stations on the surface, half the depth of compensation, and the depth of compensation. Estimation of primary productivity using chlorophyll-a concentration measurement method. The results of measurement of water quality parameters in the Jatigede reservoir include transparency range of 19,5 cm – 116,5 cm, temperature with a spread of 26,58 – 27,48oC, pH with a range of 7,69 – 8,40, carbon dioxide with a range of 4,190 mg/L – 9,219 mg/L, current ranges from 0.136 m/s – 0,216 m/s, BOD5 with a range of 11,027 dissolved oxygen ranges from 6,4 mg/L – 7,1 mg/L, ammonia ranges from 0,006 mg/L – 0,039 mg/L, nitrates ranged from 0,168 mg/L – 0,216 mg/L, and phosphate range 0,139 mg/L – 0,185 mg/L. Results from the measurement of chlorophyll-a ranged from 0,035 mg/L – 0,062 mg/L. This results in showing the Jatigede reservoir of oligotrophic water because the primary productivity in the waters of the Jatigede Reservoir is relatively low if calculated based on the concentration of chlorophyll-a

    Analysis of Supply Chain Model of Dogol Shrimp (Metapenaeus ensis) Capture in Pangandaran, West Java, Indonesia

    This research aims to analyze the management of the dogol shrimp supply chain in terms of product flow, financial flow, information flow and risk as well as marketing margins of each chain involved in KUD Minasari fish market, Pangandaran Regency, West Java Province. The method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative using primary and secondary data with snowball sampling methods. The analytical tool used is the analysis of supply chain conditions, risks and consequences of dogol shrimp supply chains. The results of this study showed that the process of product flow of the dogol shrimp supply chain in KUD Minasari, Pangandaran Regency involving fishermen, wholesalers, small traders, restaurants and end consumers is quite well related to channeling from fishermen who have not been supported by fishermen\u27s knowledge related to shrimp quality. The dogol shrimp supply chain distribution channel is divided into 8 types of marketing with a significant difference in whether the fish market is involved or not. The marketing channel of dogol shrimp catches in Pangandaran Regency shows that the structure of the second chain with business actors is fishermen → fish auction → large traders → small traders → consumers are more efficient with a marketing margin of Rp. 35,000 / kg or 31.81%, farmer share by 75.87%. The largest market share value of 59.25% is on the 8th channel with restaurants as a marketing agent

    Bonylip Barb Fish Fingerlings Cultivation (Osteochilus hasselti C.V.) in a Growing Round Container

    This research was purposed is to find the optimum current for growth and growth of Bonylip Barb fingerlings (Osteochilus hasselti C.V). Method used in this research is compelitely Randomized Design (CRD), consists of three treatments and four replications. The treatments are : A (without current or (control), B (with 0.1 ms-1 water current) and C. (0.1 ms-1 water current cabined with venture aeration). Bonylip Barb of 4 – 6 cm size are kept as many as 15 fish / x Liters and the amount of feed given is adjusted to the feeding rate (FR) of 10 % of Bonylip Barb biomass carried out every three times a day and adjusted for growth every ten days. Water quality during maintenance (40 days) was observed once every 10  days while survival, absolute weight growth, daily growth rate, feed conversion ratio and feed efficiency were observed every ten days. After 40 days of maintenance,  the best result showed 0.1 ms-1, with 100% survival rate , 6.09 g absolute growth, 3.13% specific growth rate , 3.48% feed conversion ratio was , and  30.04%. feed efficiency

    The Relationship of Megazoobenthos Association with Seagrass Ecosystem Conditions in Ujung Genteng Waters, Sukabumi

    Seagrass beds in Ujung Genteng waters are one of the shallow marine ecosystems that have relatively high biodiversity. Seagrass ecosystem as one of the coastal ecosystems in these waters has a diversity of marine life that is associated with it. The purpose of this study was to establish the association pattern and the correlation of mega zoobenthos to seagrass ecosystem conditions. The method used was a survey method by conducting a survey direct observation of the stations that have been determined.  Three seagrass species were identified, namely: Thallasia hemprichii, Cymodoceae rotundata and Enhalus acoroides. The highest density of seagrass was found in station 2 with the type of seagrass Thallasia hemprichii as much as 207 ind/m2. Fifteen mega zoobenthos species were identified representing 3 phyla. Species Mega zoobenthos which is most commonly found in Ujung Genteng waters is Ophiothrix fragilis, Ophiocoma erinaceus, and Diadema setosum. The mega zoobenthos Diversity Index at the observation station is included in the medium category that is 2.33-2.66 and the evenness index is 0.63-0.84. Correlation of seagrass density with mega zoobenthos obtained by 0.92 shows that there is a very strong relationship between seagrass density with mega zoobenthos. The result shows that there are 4 patterns of close association and 2 patterns of very close association. Ophiocoma erinaceus of the ophiuroidea class has a pattern of very close positive associations with seagrass Cymodoceae rotundata and Dendrodoris sp of the order nudibranchia has a pattern of very close negative associations with seagrass Cymodoceae rotundata
