Effectiveness of Different Bubble Size of Aeration to Survival and Growth Rate of Pangas Catfish Larvae, Pangasius nasutus
This research was conducted at the fish fry center in Tasikmalaya City, Jl. Kadupugur No. 42 Kota Tasikmalaya. The research was done from November 2019 until February 2020. This research is carried out to determine the survival rate and growth of pangas catfish larvae up to the age of 22 days. Old with different bubble sizes of aeration stone the pangas catfish larvae used was 600 fingerlings that are spread evenly into 12 aquariums with four treatments each replicated three times using a completely randomized design (CRD). The parameters observed are survival rate, growth rate (weight and length), and water quality. The results showed that the aquarium with aerator ASB05 is the most effective treatment in influencing the productivity of pangas catfish larvae. The survival rate is 99.3%, the absolute length is 14.81mm and the absolute weight is 40.1 g. whereas the water quality of each treatment is still within the SNI quality standard (2000) with dissolved oxygen level is 5.40 mg/L
The Effect of Concentrations of Basil Leaves Extract as Natural Preservatives in Mullet Fillet
This research aimed to know the shelf life of mullet fillet with basil leaves extract treatment in different concentrations based on the number of bacteria contained on mullet fillet during low-temperature storage. The method used in this research was experimental with four treatments in double measurements. Mullet fillets were soaked for a half-hour in different concentrations of Basil leaves extract (0%, 1,5%, 3%, and 4,5%) and stored at low temperature (5-10℃). The parameters observed in this research were the number of bacteria, pH measurements, and weight loss. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the use of basil leaves extract with a concentration of 3% in mullet fillet during low-temperature storage has the longest shelf life of 11 days with the amount bacteria of 4.55 x cfu/g, pH value of 6.55 and weight loss value of 20,00%
Growth Pattern, Mortality and Exploitation Rate of the Giant African Threadfin, Polydactylus quadrifilis (Cuvier, 1829) from Ebrié Lagoon (Potou Sector, Côte d’Ivoire)
The study evaluated some population parameters of Polydactylus quadrifilis within Ebrié lagoon (Potou sector). Samples were obtained using artisanal gillnet fishery from April 2004 to March 2006. A total of 741 individuals of P. quadrifilis ranged from 11 to 70 cm were examined. Population parameters were estimated where asymptotic length (L∞) was found 60 cm, growth rate (K) 0.33 per year, the longevity (T max) 9.09 years, and growth performance index (Φ′) 3.06. The length at first capture (Lc50 = 10.60 cm) was lower than the length at first maturity (Lm50 = 40 cm). Total mortality rate (Z) was calculated as 1.10 per year including natural mortality and fishing mortality. The exploitation rate (E=0.36) was found to be less than the maximum exploitation rate (E max = 0.44) and indicated that P. quadrifilis is not overexploited. The current exploitation rate should be maintained by sustainable fisheries measures including monitoring of fishing effort
The Effect of Addition of Nilem Fish Protein Concentrate Flour on the Preference Levels of Mochi Cake
Nilem fish (Osteochilus hasselti) is a type of freshwater fish that is widely farmed in West Java. Nilem fish can be made into fish protein concentrate (FPC) flour, so that it can have wide application. The addition of fish protein concentrate flour to the mochi cake might affect the organoleptic characteristics. This research aims to determine the proper concentration of nilem fish protein concentrate to get the mochi cake that was preferred by panelists. This research was conducted from August 2019 - January 2020 at the Laboratory of Fisheries Product Processing, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University. The method used in this research was experimental with four treatments, which is the addition of 0%, 3.5%, 4.5% and 5.5% nilem fish protein concentrates from white glutinous rice flour was used. The parameters observed were the preference level of color, aroma, texture, and taste of Mochi cake. The results showed that mochi cake with the addition of 4.5% nilem fish protein concentrate flour produced a mochi cake that was preferred most by panelists, which has a characteristic ivory white color, a bit of fish smell, chewy but dense enough and sweet taste with a little typical flavor of nilem fish protein concentrate
The Effect of Potassium Diformate Addition to Feed on Growth and Survival Rates of Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)
This research aimed to determine the optimal dosage of potassium diformate addition to commercial feed in order to increase the growth and survival rate of common carp seeds. The method used in this research was experimental in a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and four replications. The treatments used were A (control), B with addition of potassium diformate (0.2%), C (0.3%), D (0.4%), and E (0.5%). For test fish, there were 200 of Common carp seeds with a size of 2-3 cm. The media used was 20 aquariums with a size of 40x30x40 cm3 and a stocking density of 10 individuals/aquarium. The rearing period was 35 days and the amount of feed given was 3% of the fish body weight. The parameters observed included water quality (temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen) which were observed every 7 days for 35 days. Other parameters monitored were daily growth rate, survival rate, feed efficiency, and the acidity level of the intestine. The results showed that 0.3% addition of potassium diformate gave the best results with a daily growth rate value of 3.21%, highest survival of 98%, efficiency of feed utilization of 64.83%, and a decrease in intestinal pH which helped the process of protein absorption in the fish body. First Record of the Ichthyofaunal Diversity of Bhagar Oxbow Lake, in Dumraon, South Bihar, India
Fishes are very important food resources in developing countries, due to high protein content and its nutritional value. The present study deals with Ichthyofaunal diversity of Bhagar oxbow Lake, in Dumraon, District, Buxar. Total of 44 freshwater fish species were listed that belonging to 30 genera, 16 families and 7 orders, described in the present study from February, 2018 to January, 2020. Among them Cypriniformes was the dominant order in term of species diversity that represent (16 species) while the Puntius is the most dominant genus, and held a major portion of the lake. Siluriformes (11 species), Perciformes represented with 6 species, Channiformes (4 species), whereas Mastacembeliformes & Clupeiformes represented (3 species) each and Tetraodontiforme represented only (1 species). Fish of the family Cypriniformes was the most abundant 37.20% of the total fish species followed by the family Siluridae 25.58% and Perciformes 13.95% were reported. Order Channiformes represent 9.30%, followed by the family Clupeiformes 6.97%, Mastacembliformes, 4.3% and Tetrodontiform represented with 2.32% of the total fish species. In the Bhagar oxbow lake, a large number of fish species have edible as well as ornamental and medicinal values. The species composition of ichthyofaunal diversity can also be better understand by this paper. This is the first ever study on the fish diversity and would help in explore the fish fauna and to develop a sustainable fishery practices need to Bhagar oxbow lake in Dumraon. 
Microbial Diversity Assessment in Milkfish Culture Ponds
Aims: To determine bacterial diversity in milkfish culture ponds that contain different life-cycle stages of the milkfish (pond A: fry, pond B: juveniles and pond C: adults) by DNA sequence analysis of organisms and compare that microbial diversity to organisms found in soil adjacent to the ponds.
Study Design: Comparative metagenomic study of aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity based on DNA sequence analysis of water and soil DNA.
Place and Duration of Study: SEADEC milkfish ponds in Tingnauan, Iloilo. Philippines. All water and soil samples were collected over a three-day period.
Methodology: DNA sequence analysis of nucleic acids extracted from water samples collected from the three types of milkfish ponds along with soil adjacent to the ponds. DNA was extracted and PCR was performed using the 11F-1492R primer pair to amplify 16S rRNA gene. Purified 16S rDNA amplicons were cloned in using the TOPO-TA cloning kit for DNA sequencing. 16s rRNA gene sequences were analyzed with the use of software tools at the National Center for Biotechnology Information website and imported into the ARB phylogenetic analysis software. Distance matrices were exported using the neighbor-joining algorithm in ARB, in the form of PHYLIP-formatted lower triangular matrices. The distance matrices were then used to calculate Shannon-Weaver and Simpson diversity indices to evaluate the richness and evenness of the sampled populations. Rarefaction curves were determined to evaluate sampling efficiency.
Results: Rarefaction curves indicated that the sampling effort was sufficient to reveal the majority of phyla present in the sample. Shannon-Weaver and Simpson indices suggested that the diversities of all the groups were statistically different from each other. It was observed that pond A was least diverse, followed by pond C and pond B. The soil was most diverse. DNA sequence analysis identified the various species of bacteria in soil and water.
Conclusion: All three pond communities were significantly different in diversity. This study did not identify any significant human pathogens such as Vibrios, Salmonella or Shigella. Bacterial diversity of sites decreased in the following order: soil > fry pond > fingerling pond > adult pond. 
Ulvan as A New Trend in Agriculture, Food Processing and Medicine
In this work the researcher is looking for natural, new, safe, cheap and available compounds that can be used as antimicrobial and antioxidant in the medical and agricultural fields. A sulfated polysaccharide, Ulvan was extracted from Ulva lactuca and purified by cold or hot water-extraction and ethanol-precipitation with yield = 5:10% (w-w). Its appearance and touch like gel. Characterization of active groups of Ulvan was achieved by FT-IR spectroscopy, its content of sulfate = 3.998% (w-w) was determined by Ion Chromatography (IC), its molecular weight = 532.221 Kilo Daltons was determined by Gel permeation chromatography, its thermal stability was evaluated by DSC-TGA, its viscosity = 18 was determined by viscometer apparatus and its antimicrobial activity was studied against human, plant, animal, fish and poultry pathogens. Ulvan showed antioxidant activity with IC50 = 3.04 mg/ml. Its biological activity as an antioxidant and antimicrobial may be a good indication for the use of Ulvan against various pathogens as a preservative in food processing and cosmetics and as antioxidant and antimicrobial in medicine against human pathogen
The Effect of Stocking Density on Survival Rate of Siamese Catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) Fry in Recirculation System
The research aims to determine the best stocking density in the maintenance of Siamese catfish seedlings based on the influence exerted on the survival of Siamese catfish seeds and improving water quality in the recirculation system. This research was conducted at the Green House Ciparanje FPIK Unpad Jatinangor in August 2019. Maintenance activities are carried out in a 70x70x70 cm fiber equipped with a recirculation system and filled with 150 L of water per fiber. The study was conducted with four stocking solid treatments as follows 375 fry/fiber (treatment A); 450 fry/fiber (treatment B); 525 fry/fiber (treatment C); and 600 fry/fiber (treatment D). Siamese catfish fry is 1 inch in size with an average weight of 0.307 grams. The parameters observed were the survival of Siamese catfish fry and water quality. Water quality measurements include temperature, degree of acidity (pH), and ammonia (NH3). Water quality testing was carried out at the Laboratory of Aquatic Resources, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran. During the study, there was no exchange of water or siphon. The method used in this research was analyzed descriptively and compared the results of survival rate fish and water quality parameters toward the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The results showed that the best stocking density was 600 fry/fiber with a survival rate of 100% Siamese catfish and the ammonia value at the beginning of maintenance was 0.140 mg/L and the end of maintenance decreased to 0.137 mg/L
Identification of Specifications and Catches of Sea Cucumber Dredge Gear in Cirebon Regency
Sea cucumbers (Holothuria sp) are a leading export commodity for Indonesian fishermen. The increase in the selling price and demand for sea cucumbers in 2018 made fishermen in Cirebon Regency modify the fishing gear to maximize the catch of sea cucumbers which is called the sea cucumber dredge gear. The purpose of this research is to identify the specifications of the gear, catch, selectivity and productivity of the sea cucumber dredge gear operated in Cirebon Regency, West Java. The research was carried out in July 2019 - September 2020 in Gebang Mekar District. Fishing gear measurements were carried out along the fishing village of Gebang Mekar Village. The method used is a case study method with quantitative descriptive analysis to determine the specifications of the fishing gear and catches taken by interviewing fishermen. The results showed that sea cucumber dredge gear was included in the dredge gear category. The components consist of a mouth, a hook, a frame, a net, and a rope of varying sizes. The materials used are iron and stainless steel, weighing up to 50 kg. The main catch of sea cucumber in Cirebon Regency consists of Phylloporus sp or ondol - ondol and bycatch in the form of several demersal fish, with a total of 7 species. This fishing gear is classified as not selective because of its construction which has a net with a small mesh size (2-5 inches) so that this fishing gear captures many species of different sizes and the results of the calculation of the proportion show that bycatch has a percentage of 74,75%
