    Ethnoichthyological Study of Biological Characteristics and Ecology (Salminus brasiliensis: Teleostei/Characiform): Importance, Status and Conservation Challenges in the Region of Mato Grosso, Brazil

    Introduction: Salminus is a genus of ichthyofauna currently constituted by five species of migratory neotropical fish, predators, which are important in commercial, ecological and sport fishing. Aims: The article reflects the conception of fishermen about the ecological interrelationships of ichthyofauna, the relationship with sport fishing, aspects of trophic interactions among fish, the use of habitats aimed at feeding or reproduction and relations with fishing activity. Methodology: Study carried out in the state of Mato Grosso, central region of Brazil. 122 fishing professionals and artisanal fishermen were interviewed. The testimonies were obtained through phonographic interviews, carried out during visits in temperate sport fishing from 2018 to 2020, verifying questions related to fishing and the study specimen S. brasiliensis. Results: Among the interviewees, 37 were sport fishermen (30.3%), 22 artisanal fishermen (18.1%) and 63 guide fishermen (51.6%). The interviewees reported several situations and approaches on the problems generated by sport fishing in the State. The results were consistent with the scientific literature and revealed detailed knowledge about the survival strategies of S. brasiliensis. The answers revealed the fishermen\u27s observations on the decrease in fishing resources, the scarcity of species and the conflicts related to sport fishing, making it necessary to look for the best ways of recovering and conserving native species and monitoring in the surveyed places. Conclusion: S. brasiliensis is an example of the ichthyofauna that is much sought after by sport fishing. The interviewees demonstrated important perceptions of the changes that are occurring in the rivers of Mato Grosso and it was found that it is necessary to intensify studies looking for ways to recover and conserve the native ichthyofauna in the region. The results obtained aim to promote social contributions and partnerships with professional and artisanal fishermen, encouraged to achieve a better harmony between fishing and nature, creating actions that can be extended to indigenous, quilombola and riverside peoples

    Water Quality of Pond Irrigation ChannelsBased on the Community Structure of Macrozoobenthosin Legonkulon,Subang, West Java

    This research aimed to analyze the quality of water in pond irrigation channels by examining the community structure of macrozoobenthos in Legonkulon, Subang Regency, West Java. The research was conducted in the Pond Irrigation Channels, Subang Regency, West Java starting from July until September 2020. This research method used a survey method using primary data in the form of physical chemistry of aquatic data, macrozoobenthos density, diversity index, uniformity index. The method used in data collecting techniques was purposive sampling in determining 4 stations and 3 repetitions. Data analysis in this research used descriptive analysis. Research results found 28 species consisting of 3 phyla, namely Mollusca, Arthropoda, and Annelida. The species that dominate the four stations are Filopaludinajavanica and Tarebiagranifera. Makrozoobenthos density ranges from 40 – 295 ind/m2. Makrozoobenthos diversity index in the medium category 1.0 < H’ <3.322. Uniformity values ranged from 0,43 to 0,81 with low to high category. The highest uniformity index was found at station 3, and the lowest uniformity index was at station 4, while at station 1 and station 2 had a moderate uniformity index. The results of the macrozoobenthos community structure showed that the water quality of the pond irrigation channels in Legonkulon was classified as being medium polluted

    Aquaculture Recovery in Shizugawa Bay, Japan: Post Tsunami Recovery

    This report outlines a study undertaken at Minamisanriku, a small coastal village on the East Coast of Honshu, Japan, in late 2018.  The area relies heavily on fisheries and aquaculture for economic stability. While there, scientists, community leaders and individuals involved in the fisheries and aquaculture industry were interviewed to gain a qualitative understanding of the impacts of the 2011 tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, particularly on the oyster industry and aquaculture in general in the region. The tsunami completely disrupted aquaculture operations, with a 93% loss of infrastructure. Consequently, stakeholders were presented with an opportunity to restructure in some way as they rebuilt the industry.  The resulting 66% reduction in some species densities within aquaculture lots has subsequently led to increased sustainability and increased product quality.  Those gains, paired with reduced material cost and efforts, have together resulted in a more socio-ecologically responsible aquaculture operation. This operation now generates at least same amount of revenue as pre-tsunami

    The Maturity of Female Gonads of G2 Transgenic Mutiara Catfish (Clarias sp.)

    The G2 trangsenic Mutiara catfish (Clarias sp.) (MTG) is a Mutiara catfish that is inserted with the CgGH gene (Clarias gariepinus Growth Hormone) through the transgenesis. The effect of transgenesis stimulates gonad growth of G2 transgenic Mutiara catfish (Clarias sp.) faster than non-transgenic fish. Study aimed to analyze the maturity of the gonads and the spawning ability of female G2 transgenic Mutiara catfish (Clarias sp.) to obtain superior broodstock candidates. Experimental method with completely randomized design (pair of parents used as treatment and repeated four times) for spawning was used for this study. Three pairs of parent G2 were crossed semi-artificially as treatment A (female 1 MTG G2 crossed with male 1 MTG G2), B (female 2 MTG G2 crossed with male 2 MTG G2) and C (female 3 MTG G2 crossed with male 3 MTG G2). The results showed that the performance of female G2 transgenic Mutiara catfish (Clarias sp.) (treatment A, B and C) was higher given non-transgenic with an average relative fecundity of 82,438 eggs / kg of broodstock, an average egg diameter of 1.76 mm and an average egg weight 1.75 mg. These indications suggest that GH transgenesis increases gonadal maturity. The gonad maturity profile reached the stage of complete maturity (full ripe) compared to Sangkuriang catfish (Clarias gariepinus) (immature gonads). Therefore it is necessary to compare the reproductive performance of G2 transgenic Mutiara catfish (Clarias sp.) with non-transgenic fish (Sangkuriang) as candidates for superior broodstock of catfish

    Gillnet Selectivity on the Narrow-barred Spanish Mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) Fishery in Pangandaran Waters

    Analyzing the selectivity of gillnet fishing gear using two different mesh sizes, namely 3.5 and 4 inches. Gillnets of these mesh sizes are commonly used by fishermen in Fish Landing Base (PPI) Cikidang, Pangandaran Regency, West Jawa. A total of 8 fishing trips were conducted at the coastal waters around PPI Cikidang, Pangandaran Regency, West Java from August 2018 to January 2019  using gillnet fishing gear As for each trip, 2-3 times the operation of the tool is carried out. The operation of the fishing gear is carried out with the help of vessels measuring 2-3 Gross Tonnage (GT). The catch obtained was differentiated based on the main catch and bycatch and the amount is calculated for analysis of the proportion of the catch. Mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) is caught as the main catch, the fork length was measured for analysis of the length frequency distribution and selectivity curves. The operation of gillnets with a mesh size of 3.5 inches obtained a higher proportion of bycatch compared to gillnets with a mesh size of 4 inches. In addition, the length distribution of mackerel caught by gillnets with a mesh size of 3,5 inches is smaller (27-49 cm FL) compared to a mesh size of 4 inches (40-55 cm FL). Based on the distribution of length distribution, gillnets with a mesh size of 3.5 inches are more dominant in catching mackerel in a smaller size class interval than gillnets with a mesh size of 4 inches. Meanwhile, based on the selectivity curve for the length of mackerel with a 50% chance of being caught, it shows that gillnets with a mesh size of 3.5 or 4 inches are selective in catching mackerel, this is because the chances of catching fish at more than L50 are high

    Analysis of Competitiveness in the Field of Brackish Water Aquaculture in Indonesia

    This study was conducted from August 2020 to July 2021. Competitiveness can be interpreted as the ability of a region to make it excel in producing a commodity more than any other region. The competitiveness, especially in the field of brackish water aquaculture can be known through several indicators, i.e. human resources, infrastructure, production and science and technology. This study aims as an effort to realizing fisheries development in Indonesia by knowing the competitiveness profile of brackish water aquaculture in Indonesia through qualitative descriptive analysis method. The research procedure was conducted in several stages, the first of which was the collection of secondary data at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. The second stage is to analyze the primary data in the form of expert opinions or competent people in their fields. Then the last stage is to analyze the data that has been obtained during the research. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the competitiveness profile of brackish water aquaculture in Indonesia was outperformed by south Sulawesi province with a final value of 17.03, while the region with the lowest competitiveness value was Riau Islands Province with a final value of 0.05

    Analysis of the Development Trends in Indonesia Floating Net Cage Aquaculture

    The purpose of this study is to analyze the development trend of floating net cage aquaculture in Indonesia. The study took place at the Directorate General of Aquaculture, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia from February to June 2021. The literature survey method was employed to obtain data in this study. The data utilized in this study is secondary data received from the Directorate General of Aquaculture, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, in the form of statistical data on floating net cage aquaculture from 2004 to 2016. Data was analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis, which included study of developmental indexes. The results showed that the development trend of floating net cage aquaculture in Indonesia as seen from fishery households, cultivators, feed, land area, production, and production value experienced fluctuating changes from 2004 to 2016

    Carp (Cyprinus carpio) hatchery cultivation is one of the business activities carried out by the community in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency. This research aims to analyze the financial feasibility of carp hatchery cultivation in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency. This research was conducted using a case study method consisting of primary data and secondary data. Primary data obtained from interviews with respondents and secondary data obtained from related agencies. This research uses 38 respondents as samples based on the sampling method (purposive sampling). The analysis used in this research is descriptive quantitative. The results obtained from this research are carp hatchery cultivation in Ciparay District has a profit value of 164,225,000 IDR/year, Profitability of 217%, R/C of 3.2 and Payback Period of 33 days so it is feasible to run and develop. Carp hatchery cultivators in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency are indicated to be prosperous because they have a higher income than the Regional Minimum Wage of Bandung Regency

    This study aimed to analyze the value-added of salted little tuna in Bandung Regency. The general method used in this research is the case study method. The data analysis method used is quantitative descriptive analysis. And to analyze the value-added, the Hayami’s methods were used. The research conduct in Bandung regency from July to August 2021. The results of this research show that value added of salted little tuna in Bandung regency is 27% it means the price of salted little tuna increase 27% from the price of fresh little tuna fish. So, the value-added of salted little tuna is relatively still low. The strategic that used to increase the value added of salted little tuna i.e., increasing in production, increasing in price, and decreasing in costs
