Study of Preferred Level of Biscuits Fortified With Nilem Fish Egg Protein Concentrate
Fish eggs are an essential source of protein to increase nutritional value because of their excellent quality protein content but have not been widely used, especially in food processing. Biscuits are one of the most consumed products globally, made from cereal flour such as wheat flour or other flour. Four different formulations containing nilem fish egg protein concentrate (NFEPC) were used in this study to produce biscuit samples with better sensory characteristics and higher protein content. This study aimed to determine the level of addition of nilem fish egg protein concentrate in the biscuits making, which panelists preferred based on their organoleptic assessment. In this study, the method used was an experimental method with four levels of treatment of nilem fish egg protein concentrate with concentrations of 0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, and 7.5% (w/w) carried out on the organoleptic characteristics, which include the appearance, aroma, texture, and taste of biscuits. The results showed that the optimum addition of nilem FEPC was at a 2.5% level preferred by consumers regarding all characteristics (appearance, aroma, texture, and flavor), with the average score ranging from 5.7 to 6.2 on average
The Exchange Rate Analysis of Fishery Product Processors in Bandung Regency, Indonesia
This study is about the analysis of the exchange rate of fishery product processors (NTPI) in Bandung Regency. This study aims to analyze the NTPI in Bandung Regency and analyze the price index of processed fishery products in Bandung Regency to find out the level of welfare. The method used in this study is a survey method with interview techniques using questionnaire, the types of data collected include primary data and secondary data. The research data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis methods. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the NTPI in Bandung Regency as a whole, both processing bloater, shredded fish, and fish balls has an NTPI > 100 which indicates that fishery processors in Bandung Regency are at a prosperous level and prices increase in the base year and 2021 only occurred in processed fish floss and fish balls although they were not large, while in the processed bloater there was no price increase at all from the base year until 2021
Determination of Most Reliable Bony Structure For Ageing of Carassius carassius (Linnaeus, 1758) Inhabiting In Duhok River (Iraq)
In this study, it was aimed to make a comparative age determination in the population of Carassius carassius (Linnaeus, 1758) living in Duhok River. For this purpose, 71 fish samples (57 male and 14 female) were obtained. The bony structures vertebrae, scales, otoliths and operculum used in the age determination. The age groups determined for each bony structure. The number and percentage distributions of individuals in these groups were expressed with tables. The comparison of age matching between bony structures was expressed by figures. The most reliable bony structures were found as vertebrae, otolith, scales and operculum respectively. The highest consistency was observed in the vertebrae (70.42%). The ages changed between I and IX age in Carassius carassius in this study
Sinking Feed Efficiency in Growth Performance, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and Yield of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at Different Stocking Densities
The efficiency of feed is considered as one of the most crucial factors that affects the growth performance, feed conversion ratio and yield as well. The study was aimed to compare the growth parameters of tilapia at different stocking densities to detect the efficiency of sinking feed assessing the growth trends at various sampling stages. To evaluate the comparative yield, the study was carried out in twelve concrete tanks under an outdoor laboratory shed. Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fry was released at the rate of 8 fry per tank as per the recommended stocking density of 320 fishes/decimal and 4 fry per tank equivalent to the stocking density of 160 fishes/decimal in intensive and semi-intensive aquaculture system, respectively. To evaluate the growth trends sinking feed was used for feeding the fish during the experimental period for T1 (Intensive) and T2 (Semi-intensive), respectively. The feed was supplied in each with three replications at the rate of 20%, 15%, and 10% of the body weight of fish, respectively. The daily ration of feed was delivered to fish dividing into two parts daily. Aeration facilities using air stone aerator were installed for 24 hours. To assume the consecutive growth trends, weight of fish was recorded in 3 days interval to have better understanding on the yield performance in relation to the feed conversion ratio (FCR). Water quality parameters i.e., temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO) were recorded two times daily. The final weight gains of fish were 133.77±5.65 gm and 50.70±2.40 gm for T1 and T2, respectively. The mean percent weight gain of tilapia was higher in T1 (1127.25±0.00) than T2 (518.51±0.00 gm). Feed conversion ratio (FCR) in T1 and T2 were 1.97±0.11 and 1.70±0.07, respectively. The specific growth rates (SGR) of tilapia in T1 4.90±3.03 and 4.78±3.83 considering the data at the beginning and the end of the production cycle, respectively. Higher total production was obtained in T1 (1070.19 gm) than T2 (610.00 gm) with 100% survival in both the treatments. The present study reveals that, the efficiency of sinking feed was higher in T1 than T2 and farmers might be suggested to practice tank-based intensive aquaculture system to get higher production in a short period of time
Primary Productivity of Jatigede Reservoir Based on Light and Dark Bottle Method
This research aims to determine the value of primary productivity by using light-dark bottles at different depths in Jatigede Reservoir, Sumedang, West Java. This research was conducted from October 2020 until March 2021 using survey method research. Determination of the research location was done by using the purposive sampling method. Sampling was carried out at five stations and three depths: surface, 0.5 compensation depth, and compensation depth. The results showed that the primary productivity in Jatigede Reservoir ranged from 300.29-1013.47 mgC/m3/day. The results of supporting water quality parameters are light transparency ranging from 38-150 cm, temperature ranging from 26.6-29.7 oC, pH ranging from 6.69-8.7, carbon dioxide (CO2) ranging from 4.4-22.0 mg/ l, dissolved oxygen (DO) ranged from 3.00–6.6 mg/l, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) ranged from 1.62-16.22 mg/l, ammonia ranged from 0.0004-0.0055 mg/l, nitrate ranged from 0.017-0.044 mg/l and phosphate ranged from 0.06-0.14 mg/l. Based on the value of primary productivity, the waters of the Jatigede Reservoir are categorized as mesotrophic waters
Volatile Flavor Compounds Composition of Steamed Marble Goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata)
The identification and composition of volatile flavor compounds was carried out for steamed marble goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata). This study was carried out in Fishery Processing Laboratory at Faculty of Fishery and Marine Science, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor; Flavor Laboratory, Indonesian Center of Rice Research, Sukamandi, Subang; Inter-University Center Laboratory of Bogor Agricultural Institute. The study were carried out on steamed marble goby (at 100oC, for period of ±30 minutes). The Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) method was used to extract volatile flavor compound and identified by using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC / MS). Steamed marble goby has 27 compounds. The major volatile compound in steamed marble goby is naphthalene. Proximate analysis shows that steamed marble goby has 79.70% water content, 1.48% ash, 0.36% lipid, and 16.65% protein
Analysis of Floating Cage Net Development Trends in West Java Province, Indonesia
This study has the aim to analyze the trend of the development of fisheries floating cage net aquaculture in West Java Province.The research was conducted from September 2020 – July 2021.The method used was a literature survey to determine the development of aquaculture fisheries of floating cage net in regencies and cities in West Java Province. Data collected were analyzed descriptively. Secondary data on Floating Net Cage Aquaculture Fisheries (2004 – 2019) was obtained from the office of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of West Java Province. The results of this study indicate that the development of aquaculture fisheries of floating cage net in the regencies/cities of West Java Province experienced fluctuating changes which tends to increase from 2004 to 2019
The Potency of Ludwigia adscendens and L. octovalvis as Phytoremediator Macrophytes in Indonesia
The potency of Ludwigia adscendens and L. octovalvis as phytoremediator macrophytes in Indonesia was reviewed. The characteristics of these species might be essential information for operators who wanted to implement phytoremediation in their sites. Information and articles about these species in Indonesia was collected through Google-Scholar during the first week of February 2021 and reviewed. Many studies about phytoremediation focused only on the capabilities of macrophytes to remove contaminants from water and paid only little attention to their compatibility with the ecosystem leading to upset the ecosystem. To Indonesia, these two species were introduced and became weeds, with different ecological characteristics. In Indonesia, scarce phytoremediation studies using these species were detected. Therefore, although these species were classified as weeds it was, remained, worthwhile to investigate further these species to be used in the phytoremediation of water
Effect Collagen Concentration Tilapia Scales on the Quality of Burn Ointment
Collagen is one of the main connective tissue animal proteins and has been widely used as a biomedical material. Collagen is divided into XIX types. Type I collagen, among others, is obtained from bone, scales and skin. Collagen derived from type I can repair tissue or accelerate tissue regeneration to heal burns. The purpose of this research was to determine the addition of fish scale collagen extract to the characteristics of the burn ointment preparation in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and the best quality. The method used in this research is an experimental method of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 collagen addition treatments: 0%, 2%, 4% and 6% repeated 5 times. Parameters in this method include physical-chemical parameters (pH, spreadability, shelf life and homogeneity) and organoleptic parameters (appearance, aroma, texture and color). Bayes test results, the concentration of the addition of tilapia scale collagen in the ointment preparation of 4% resulted in a value close to the control treatment. The addition of 4% collagen was the best treatment compared to 2% and 6% with a pH value of 6.12, dispersion of 3.22 cm, safe ointment preparation did not change at all during 28 days of storage. Based on the results of the organoleptic test parameters, the ointment at this concentration had a homogeneous appearance, slightly yellowish white color, a distinctive smell of collagen and a semi-solid texture, this was in accordance with the quality standard of the ointment and had the best quality characteristics
Status of Coral Reefs in Lagonoy Gulf, Eastern Bicol, Philippines with Emphasis on Marine Protected Areas
Status of coral reef health of 8 Marine Protected Areas (MPA), 6 adjacent MPA reefs and 5 regular reefs of Lagonoy Gulf were assessed from December 2017 to August 2018 and compared with previous gulf-wide assessment results in 1994 and 2004. Underwater photo transect (UPT) method was utilized to collect benthic lifeform information and coral point count with excel extensions (CPCe) was used to analyzed benthic data. Results showed that present live coral cover in MPAs are low with 26% as compared to adjacent MPA reef areas (30%) and regular reef stations (33%). A downtrend was noted from 1993 – 2004 with 10% decline of MPA reefs while from 2004 to 2018 decrease was almost 20% and from 1993 to 2018 an average fall of 25% was detected. Overall, Lagonoy Gulf reef health is declining and can be attributed to both natural and fisheries activities, as evidenced by almost 20 typhoons affecting the Region per year with a super typhoon at least every 5-10 years and the heavy dependence of fishing communities on reef fishes respectively. However, non-MPA reefs decline was observed to very minimal as compared for both MPA and adjacent MPA reefs ranging from 1% to 6%. With this, MPA management schemes should be revisited and amended to improve and strengthen MPA governance, direction and strategies.
