Water Quality Suitability of Padjadjaran Retention Basin (Indonesia) for Aquaculture in Sustainable Floating Pond
Padjadjaran Retention basin is an inland aquatic ecosystem in the form of a water basin that was newly flooded in 2021, located in Cileles Village, Jatinangor District, used as a water storage pond, irrigation source, and fishing. Around the waters there are human activities in the form of fisheries, agriculture, livestock and construction of the Cisumdawu Toll Road which can affect water quality physically and chemically. The purpose of the study was to determine the suitability of the water quality of the Padjadjaran Retention basin for aquaculture with a sustainable floating pond system. Water samples were collected from February to March 2022. The method used in this study is a survey, sampling is carried out using a random sampling method at three stations representing inlets, midlets and water outlets, measurement of water samples is carried out in situ which includes temperature, water transparency, pH, Dissolved oxygen and Carbon dioxide and ex situ measurements include Total suspended solid, Total dissolved solid, Ammonia, Nitrite, Hydrogen sulfide and Biochemical oxygen demand at the Aquatic Resources Laboratory of Padjadjaran University and the Tirtawening Environmental Quality Control Laboratory. The data were analyzed using the Water Quality Suitability Index (WQSI) according to Costa Pierce et al (1990), water quality standards refer to the Indonesian Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021, and Indonesian National Standard number 6494: 2013. The results showed that the water quality of Padjadjaran Retention basin is suitable for use for aquaculture, it is located near the outlet are more suitable for the placement of fish farming containers with a suitability index of 0.53, compared to in the inlet and in the midlet have a suitability index of 0.18 and 0.17, respectively
Demand Factors Analysis of Catfish Products (A Case Study of Mr. Sumar Catfish Salad Stall in Ujungberung Subdistrict, Bandung City, Indonesia)
This study aims to analyze the demand and the factors that influence the demand for processed catfish products at Mr. Sumar Catfish Salad Stall in Ujungberung Subdistrict, Bandung City. This research was conducted in September 2021. The method used is a quantitative descriptive method using primary and secondary data. The sampling technique used in this study is accidental sampling, a sampling technique of respondents by chance who met directly with researchers at the research location and were used as data sources. The number of respondents in this study amounted to 100 people. Based on the results of the correlation test, there are results that the correlation coefficient value is 0.97 (close to 1), meaning that there is a relationship between the price of catfish salad, consumer tastes, and business location on demand for catfish salad in Mr. Sumar Catfish Salad Stall in Ujungberung Subdistrict, Bandung City. The results of the T-Test and F-Test also illustrate that all independent variables have a partial and simultaneous effect on the dependent variable. The results of multiple linear regression analysis stated that if there were a decrease in the price of catfish pecel by 1 unit, then the demand for catfish salad would increase by 0.094 units. Because of the minus value of the regression coefficient, the relationship between the price of catfish salad and catfish salad demand is not in the same direction. On the other hand, the relationship between consumer tastes and business location on demand for catfish salad is unidirectional because the regression coefficient value is positive. So if consumer tastes increase by 1 unit, then the demand for catfish pecel will increase by 0.072 units, and also if the business location increases by 1 unit, then the demand for catfish salad will increase by 0.092 units
Effect of Seasonal Variations in Hematology, Biochemical, Immunity Constituents in Mugil cephalus, Chano chanos, and Arius arius on Southeast Coast of Tamil Nadu, India
The assessment of the effect of seasonal variations on health, hematology, and serum biochemical components of three marine teleost fishes, Mugil cephalus, Chanos chanos, and Arius arius from Kovalam, East Coast Road, Southeast coast of Tamil Nadu, India. The objectives of the study pointed out the effect of seasonal variation on fish health and immunity. During summer and pre-monsoon, a total of 20 samples were collected from each sample, and hematological, biochemical, immunity parameters, and fish health were considered. M. cephalus (L-23.86±1.03; W-171.22±35.42) C. chanos, (L-22.36±1.17; W-163.03±33.32) and A. arius (L-22.62±1.08; W-168.72±35.04) have different length and weight. The WBC, RBC, Hb, and HCT were higher during summer in M. cephalus, C. chanos, and A. arius likewise, these parameters were lower in the pre-monsoon period (P<0.05). The MCV, MCH, MCHC, and ESR of all three species were higher in the pre-monsoon whereas in the summer they decreased. Likewise, leukocytes such as neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes, eosinophils, and thrombocytes show minimum levels in the pre-monsoon and attain maximum levels in the summer. Most importantly, in the summer, serum components protein and glucose were higher, while cholesterol and urea were lower, and vice versa. Although IgM and IgG levels (P<0.05) were higher in the summer and declined in the pre-monsoon season. In the lysozyme assay, respiratory burst activity (NBT) (P<0.05) reveals a higher concentration in the pre-monsoon and was lower in the summer. A total of thirteen hematological parameters, six biochemical, and two immunological parameters, and lysozyme and NBT activities showed a significant relationship with fish health throughout the seasonal changes. Based on the findings, M. cephalus shows maximum variations in length, weight, hematology, biochemical, and immunity levels, whereas C. chanos showed minimum variations. Hence the report indicates the seasons mainly impact the physiological status of the fish species
Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) Region as Molecular Marker for Parasite Identification in Aquaculture: A Review
Molecular technologies may be quicker and more accurate than the culture, serology, and histology procedures that have historically been employed to identify fish parasites. By using molecular diagnostic methods, parasites can be found in asymptomatic fish, allowing disease outbreaks to be stopped. This review discusses the use of Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) markers to detect parasite in aquaculture and their potential applications are discussed. It was found that it is a more reliable marker and species identification in combination with other DNA markers. ITS region are highly polymorphic non - coding region with sufficient taxonomic units. Thus, sequences can be separated at the species level. though ribosomal ITS as a universal barcode marker for parasite identification is still hampered by few limitations, the ITS will remain as the key choice for parasite identification. It remains the most important option for parasite identification. Many studies have been carried out using ITS markers for parasites identification such as cestode, nematodes, Pseudoterranova spp., Anisakis type I, Diplostomum, Gyrodactylids Hysterothylacium sp, Glochidia larvae. This identification of parasites are taken from the species Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Argentinesea bass, (Acanthistius patachonicus), and other samples from various places
Profile Analysis of Milkfish Nursery Pond Culture in Cibuaya District, Karawang Regency (Case Study in Cemarajaya Village)
Pond aquaculture is an alternative aquaculture activity that has high economic value and can be developed in coastal area. The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of milkfish pond aquaculture in Cemarajaya Village, Cibuaya sub-district, Karawang Regency. The method used is a case study with quantitative analysis and descriptive data analysis. The sampling technique used Purposive sampling with 30 respondents. The result show the first for characteristic of cultivation majority are the male, range of age in 50-54 years with an elementary school of education level and then majority of cultivation have been doing this cultivation 2-6 years. Second for general condition majority cultivation 1-5 Ha area, they buy the fish seed IDR 25-30/fish with transportation cost in IDR 300,000-500,000. The cultivation can be stocking from 300,000 – 500,000 fish/Ha/cycle with cost of fertilizer in IDR 225,000-550,000 and cost probiotic in IDR ≤100,000. The production in cultivation can be 190,000 – 255,000 fish/Ha/cycle which is selling at a price IDR 100-200/fish. The labor can be have 10% from production as a cost of labor. These results indicate that the cultivation of milkfish nursery ponds in the Cemarajaya village can still be imporved in order to get maximum production results, because the current production resuls are still below existing standards
Determination of Trophic Status Based on Chlorophyll-a in Cikidang River Pangandaran, West Java – Indonesia
Trophic status is an indicator of water fertility. In general, there are 3 classifications of trophic status, namely oligotrophic, mesotrophic and eutrophic [1]. According to Linus et al. [2] Chlorophyll-a phytoplankton is often used as an indicator of water quality and water fertility status. This research is to determine the trophic status of the waters based on the concentration of chlorophyll-a in the Cikidang Pangandaran river for the development of fisheries management. The research was conducted from November 2021 - January 2022. The method used was a survey method with a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that the concentration of chlorophyll-a ranged from 3.10-7.77 mg/m3. So it can be said that the trophic status of the Cikidang River is mesotrophic or moderate fertility. Parameters of supporting water quality are temperatures ranging from 26.75-29.570C, Light Transparency ranging from 16.12-135.75 cm, pH ranging from 7.38-7.48, Carbon dioxide ranging from 19.8-47.3 mg/L, BOD ranging from 10.41-16.36 mg/L, DO range from 4.38-5.06 mg/L, Nitrates ranged from 0.25-0.37 mg/L and Phosphate ranged from 0.009-0.02975. The water quality in the Cikidang River generally meets the requirements of class II and III quality standards according to Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management, so it is still supportive for the survival of fish resources
Analysis of the Exchange Rate of Small-scale Trammel Net Fishermen in Pangandaran District, Pangandaran Regency
Fishing activities in Pangadaran District are one of the economic sectors that have been supporting regional development and growth. One of the capture fisheries commodities that contribute to improving the economy, especially the fishing profession in Pangandaran District, is shrimp. Generally, fishermen in Pangandaran District use trammel nets to catch shrimp. This study aims to calculate the Fisherman\u27s Exchange Rate (FER) on small-scale fishermen who use trammel nets in Pangandaran District. Fisherman\u27s Exchange Rate is an indicator of economic welfare for fishermen published by Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. This research was conducted at the Pangandaran and Cikidang Fish Auction Places, Pangandaran District, Pangandaran Regency, West Java, Indonesia in January-August 2022. This research uses a descriptive type of research method with a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used in this research is census. The data used are primary and secondary data with the number of respondents as many as 45 small scale trammel net fishermen in Pangandaran District with interviews. The data analysis method use Fisherman\u27s Exchange Rate (FER). The results of this research indicate that the average exchange rate for small-scale fishermen is 92. FER shows a number < 100. This indicates that small-scale fishermen who use Trammel net fishing gear in Pangandaran District have a deficit. This means that the economic welfare level of fishermen during the calculation period has decreased compared to the welfare level of fishermen in the basic calculation period
Food Composition and Feeding Intensity of Channa Striata from Selected Stations of River Krishna, Andhra Pradesh
Aim of the current piece of work was to study the food composition and feeding intensity of Channa striata from Krishna river from June, 2019 to July 2020. The gut contents were analysed from the three stations to undertaken the food composition of the fish. The major components of food items in the gut of fish was: fishes and their larvae, crustaceans, insect larvae, annelids with semi digested material and unidentified items. Fishes are identified as of teleost, particularly carps and cat fish larvae but most of the fishes leftovers could not be recognized since they are found in advanced phases of digestion with only scales & skeleton remains. Gastropods are identified as polycheate larvae, and Crustaceans are prawn and crab larvae. The percentage occurrence of fishes and their larvae in gut contents and also feeding intensity were indicated that C. striata preferential food was fishes followed by crustaceans
Growth Performance of Tilapia Fingerlings Fed with Phytoadditives from Fruit Wastes (Pineapple, Citrus and Banana) for Aquaculture
Aims: This study aims to determine the effects of the different fruit wastes (banana, citrus and pineapple peel) on the zootechnical parameters (weight gain (WG), length, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and survival of tilapia fingerlings (Oreochromis sp.) and to select which feed supplement is suitable for tilapia fingerlings.
Study Design: Feeding study was conducted and growth in terms of weight gain and length were analyzed.
Place and Duration of Study: College of Fisheries and Aquatic Science Hatchery Laboratory from January 2019 to March 2020.
Methodology: Tilapia fingerlings (Oreochromis sp.) samples were used in this study. The treatments used for this experiments were consisted of; commercial feeds (control), 2%, 5% and 10% levels of pineapple, citrus, and banana waste respectively.
Results: Results showed that weight gain and FCR were significantly affected by the treatments and that treatment contained 2% levels of pineapple, citrus and banana waste showed superior growth and FCR than other treatments. Fish length and survival did not show any significant difference at P≤0.05.
Conclusion: Although the weight gain was significantly affected by the treatments studied but the length of tilapia fingerlings didn’t effect when fed with fruit waste. Better FCR and survival rate was observed when fingerlings fed with 2% banana peel however, no found significant difference in cases of 2% citrus or pineapple wastes. Besides, values of water parameters were at a normal level (temperature, dissolve oxygen (DO), and pH) and they did not significantly affect these treatments
Influence of Supplementing Dietary Herbal Concentrations on Growth and Survival of Red Tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) Juveniles
This study aimed to determine and analyze the concentration of fish herbs optimal for growth and survival of red tilapia juveniles. The Complete Random Design (CRD) was used as the experimental study method with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The to the applied treatments as follows: A (control), B (concentration of fish herbs 25 ml Kg-1), C (concentration of fish herbs 50 ml Kg-1), D (concentration of fish herbs 75 ml Kg-1), E (concentration of fish herbs 100 ml Kg-1). Observed parameters were Specific Growth Rate (SGR), Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER), Survival Rate, and Water Quality. The results showed that highest SGR value were on treatment C (0,86%), treatment B (0,73%), treatment A (0,69%), Treatment D (0,68%), Treatment E (0,60%). The lowest FCR values were at treatment C (1,34), treatment B (1,56), treatment D (1,72), treatment A (1,79), treatment E (1,93). The highest PER value was on treatment C (0,54), treatment B (0,52), treatment D (0,44), treatment E (0,32). The optimum concentration of fish herbs for highest growth of red tilapia was 50 ml Kg- 1 fish herbs concentration treatment . The study highlights the efficacy of "herbal" which is an ancient tradition, used in some parts of India. This ancient concept should be carefully evaluated in the light of modern medical science and can be utilized partially if found suitable
