    Effect of Combination of Trash Fish Meal and Wild Taro Leaves Flour on Growth Performance and Physical Characteristic of Juvenile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Feeds

    The research aims to analyze the effect of the combination of trash fish meal and taro leaves flour on juvenile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) growth performance, the sinking rate of the pellets, and the best ratio of combination feeds that can increase juvenile tilapia growth performance. Juvenile tilapia with a length of 5-8 cm and weight of 7.27 ± 2.12 g were reared for 42 days in the aquarium 25 L with a stocking density of ten fishes. The experiment used was a completed random design consisting of 4 treatments and four replications. Treatment A (control), B (15% taro leaf flour), C (substitution of fish meal by 50% trash fish meal) in combination with 20% taro leaf flour, and D (substitution fish meal by 100% trash fish meal) in combination with 25% of taro leaf flour. The results showed that a combination feed of trash fish meal and wild taro flour as a source of protein juvenile tilapia significantly different (P = 0.05) on the tilapia growth performance and the sinking rate of fish feed. Treatment C has the highest SGR (1.01 ± 0.55 g) with a feed sinking rate of 1.95 cms-1. So that the combination can reduce the level of use of fish meal and soybean meal

This article aims to review the use of fishbones into non-food products. Based on the results of a review of published articles, fishbones can be used for non-food products. These non-food products are organic fertilizers, gelatin to be applied to non-food products, hydroxyapatite, glues or adhesives, accessories and lotions or skin moisturizers

    Social and Economic Analysis of Gillnet Fishermen in Karangsong, Indonesia

    Indonesia is an archipelago with a diversity of sustainable fishery resources with economic value. This research was carried out in Karangsong village, Indramayu district, from September to October 2022 to analyze the welfare level of gill net fishermen in Karangsong village, Indramayu district. The method used is a descriptive case study with a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by direct observation, and interviews were completed by filling out questionnaires of 30 respondents. Respondents were taken using a purposive sampling technique. The research parameters include ten welfare indicators summarized by the Central Statistics Agency (2015). The results of the research show that based on the welfare indicators according to the Central Statistics Agency (2015), it is known that the income of labor fishermen comes from wages from the fishery profit sharing system and other jobs with an average total income of IDR 5,086.667 per month. Meanwhile, total expenditures came from food and non-food spending, with an average of IDR 3,792,667 per month. Gill net fishermen in Karang song village are classified as having a high level of welfare, between a score of >2.31 and a total score of 2.76. Labor fishermen classified in high welfare were 27 respondents, while labor fishermen classified in moderate welfare were 3 respondents

    Potentials of Establishing Sentinel Integrated Reef Ecosystem in Eastern Coast of Bicol Region, Philippines

    Sentinel species is an important input in understanding environmental health conditions that can provide integrated and relevant information on the possible degree of impact of anthropogenic and natural causes providing information about ecological processes. Identifying “proper set” of ecosystem sentinels will enhance the capacity to monitor and predict environmental change to help guide ecosystem science and conservation efforts.  In the Eastern Bicol Region, we surveyed selected areas to identify the healthy coral reefs to develop a “sentinel integrated system” that will allow regular monitoring of the best reefs and as a showcase for proper coral reef ecosystem management. Please describe the methods briefly. Results showed that there are healthy reefs and indicator organisms were found that are good candidate for a sentinel integrated system that can serve as potential markers of environmental or biological changes. Most healthy reefs are found in Eastern Al (Albay and Lagonoy Gulfs) while those in Asid Gulf and Western Albay have low reef quality. This also corresponds to deep and shallow reef areas respectively

    DNA Barcoding Based on 16S Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) Molecular Marker of Mangrove Clams from the Selected Sites of Davao Region, Philippines

    Aims: The taxonomic identification of mangrove clams was confirmed using DNA barcoding based on 16S Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genome. Study design: DNA was extracted from adductor muscle of mangrove clams sample. Purified DNA were sequenced and DNA barcode was generated. Place and duration of the study: The Mangrove Clams samples used in the study were collected from Malita, Davao Occidental; Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur; Mati, Davao Oriental, Philippines from January 2021 to June 2021. Methodology: DNA was extracted from Adductor muscle of mangrove clams using the Promega GoTaq PCR kit. The extracted DNA were then purified and viewed using the Gel Electrophoresis. The Purified DNA samples were then sequenced and various softwares were then utilized such as sequenced assembly and alignment namely Basic Local Search Tool (BLAST) and Barcode Of Life Database(BOLD) and phylogenetic tree was  generated. Results: There are two species morphologically identified as Anodontia philippiana (Reeve, 1850) and Austriella corrugata (Deshayes, 1843) from Davao region. BLAST search established the two species to be closely related to Anodontia (Cavatidens) omissa (Iredale, 1930) and Phacoides pectinatus (Gmelin, 1791), also a member of the Lucinidae family. Conclusion: In this study, the taxonomic identification of the two Mangrove Clams species were further elucidated using the 16S Mitochondrial DNA marker

    Effects of Oilfield Chemicals, Herbicides, Pesticides and other Pollutants on Fisheries Resources in Nigeria

    Crude oil exploration and exploitation is the major source of income or revenue generation for the Federal Government of Nigeria. Agriculture also forms a substantial part of the economic stability of the country. However, oil field chemicals used in crude oil exploration, herbicides and pesticides used for agricultural purposes, and other anthropogenic pollutants that are eventually released into the aquatic environment constitute serious sources of threat to the growth, survival, and productivity of fisheries resources. This review paper identified the impacts of these substances on fish, including growth inhibition, increased chromosome aberrations in cell roots, increased fungal biomass, and mortality. Recommendations arising from this review include proper disposal of oilfield chemical wastes, enhanced use of biological and mechanical pesticides/herbicides control methods as against the use of the chemicals, which helps to reduce the amount of these substances released into the aquatic environment, and direct remediation of the impacted environment. When implemented, these recommendations are expected to ultimately improve fish growth, survival, and productivity

    Mapping the Distribution of Fish Caught in the Jatigede Reservoir, Indonesia

    This research aims to map the structure of the fish community living in the floodplain of the Jatigede reservoir based on the catch. This research uses the field observation method, taking fish samples every 14 days and doing 6 times. The results of the survey show that the number of fish caught during the survey was 799 individuals, and the fish species identified at 6 stations of Jatigede Reservoir consisted of 9 families of 18 species. The fish species with the highest abundance was Parambassis siamensis at station 1. At stations 2, 3, 4, and 5, the fish with the highest abundance was Hampala macrolepidota and at station 6, the fish with the greatest abundance was Oxyeleotris marmorata. The distribution of native fish is more dominant than introduced fish with a comparison of 11 native fish species and 7 introduced fish species. The water quality at each station still meets the requirements of environmental quality standards according to Government Regulation (Indonesia) No. 22 of 2021 on Water Quality Standards and is suitable for fish life

    Ichthyofaunal Diversity of Downstream Dikhu River and its Tributaries in Mon District of Nagaland, India

    This study has been undertaken to investigate the Ichthyofaunal diversity, their present IUCN conservation status and economic value within the downstream Dikhu river and its tributaries in Mon district of Nagaland between 2019 to 2020. During the survey a total number of 22 fish species belonging to 4 orders, 8 families, 6 sub-families 17 genera were recorded. The catch lists composition showed the predominance of cyprinidae with 50%, Balitoridae 14%, Bagridae and Sisoridae 9%,Amblycipitidae and Channidae 5% whereas Psilorhynchynchidae and Belonidae represented by 4% each.The most significant of the investigation was the finding of endangered (EN) species Tor putitora, near threatened (NT) Nimacheilus manipurenis and four species Nemacheilus sikmaeinsis, Barilius barana, Garra lissorhynchus and Bagarius yarrelli as a vulnerable (VU) species of IUCN Red list

    The condition of natural resources, especially in the field of fisheries, which is very abundant, does not guarantee the economic life of the community is prosperous. This is supported by previous research that discusses the problems of the economic life of the fishing community in Palabuhanratu which is still below the poverty line, especially traditional fishermen and laborers. This study aims to analyze the welfare level of gillnets Fisherman in the Nusantara Fisheries Port, Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi. This research was conducted from Februari 2022 to June 2022. The method used is a descriptive method with a case study approach. Welfare level is analyzed using qualititative data and primary data that is scored on welfare indicators according to the modified Central Statistics Agency (2015). Data collection using questionnaires and documentation techniques. The sampling technique used in this research is the census. Technique census sampling is using the entire population to be used with total of 24 respondents. The results showed that the average score of the welfare level of drift gillnet fishermen in Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi was 2.27, which means that it belongs to the moderate level of welfare. The most influential factor in the level of fishermen\u27s welfare is income. The income of fishermen is not stable due to the uncertain number of catches, extreme weather, irrelevant fishing gear and fishermen still relying on ship owners. Fishermen must have a side income in order to increase income to fulfill their daily needs. Besides that, there needs to be a government institution that is able to fight for fishermen in obtaining capital and reactivate existing cooperatives

    This study aims to analyze the quality control of food safety with the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) systems in  Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) processed from milkfish shredded Bunda Juminah Food and compare it with the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and  Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17/PERMEN-KP/ 2019 so that it can  provide recommendations for improvement in efforts to improve food safety. This research uses a case study method, the discussion is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The parameters observed in this research include the Total Plate Count (TPC) test, water content  test, and protein content test. The data obtained from this research were analyzed descriptively comparatively. The results of the research show that the application of GMP and SSOP in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Bunda Juminah Food is not in accordance with the standards set in the aspect of raw material selection. The implementation of SSOP in  Bunda Juminah Food UKM is also not in accordance with the standards set in the aspect of preventing cross contamination, employee health and hygiene conditions, and controlling nuisance animals. Based on the results of the Total Plate Count (TPC) test, water content and protein content tests, Bunda Juminah Food\u27s shredded milkfish products meet Indonesian National Standards
