    A Few Potential of Turmeric as Feed Additive on Fish Growth

    Nutrition is the major crucial factor determining the potential of cultured fish. The increased in costs and formulation quality of fish feed have given reason to the need to increase research for substitutes. Therefore, the fish feeds require to be enriched with additives. The use of synthetic feed additives in the form of antibiotics is currently prohibited because it often causes negative effects and has an expensive price, so an alternative to synthetic feed additives is needed, including from the rhizome group such as turmeric. Aims: This article review aims to collect and provide information about some research results regarding the use of turmeric as a feed additive in fish feed. Study Desgn: Lierature review. The data collection method is carried out by literature study. The data was obtained by searching the literature related to the use of turmeric extract in fish farming activities through search sites on internet media published in the last twenty-three years (2000-2023). The literature used in this article review is obtained from internet media with the keywords "Turmeric", "Turmeric Flour", "Turmeric Extract",  "Fish Feed", "Fish Farming", "Feed Additive”. Results: The addition of turmeric (turmeric flour, turmeric extract, and turmeric juice) to fish feed can have a significant effect on growth, feed conversion ratio, feed utilization efficiency, gonad development, survival, and digestive enzymes. Feed additives are added to fish feed in small quantities, but their presence is needed for special functions such as antioxidants or antimicrobials in increasing the growth and efficiency of fish feed. The addition of doses to turmeric varies greatly, as turmeric flour ranges 2-60 ml/kg of feed.  This is influenced by the variety and type of fish, feed quality, and aquaculture environmental conditions.So it requires further research to determine the use of the right dose to obtain maximum results

    Length-Weight Relationship and Condition Factor of Ethmalosa fimbriata (Bowdish, 1825) and Mugil cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Coastal Waters of Ondo State

    The study aimed at examining the Length-Weight Relationships (LWRs) and Condition factor of M. cephalus and E. fimbriata. 240 fish specimens were collected from November 2021 to April 2022 from Obi, Idiegbin, Okesiri and Araromi following standard methodologies subjected to length-weight relationship and condition factor analysis. The results showed that the mean total length of M. cephalus ranged from 30.96 ± 0.56cm (Araromi) to 23.80 ± 1.16cm (Okesiri) and weight ranged from 118.86 ± 9.36g (Araromi) to 71.32 ± 18.12g (Okesiri). E. fimbriata total length ranged from 21.04 ± 0.74cm (Araromi) to 13.96± 0.38cm (Okesiri) and weight ranged from 150.90 ± 1.14g (Araromi) to 70.54 ± 5.76g (Okesiri). The regression coefficient (b) revealed that both M. cephalus (2.19-1.97) and E. fimbriata (2.06-1.05) sampled in Araromi, Okesiri, Idiegbin and Obi respectively exhibited negative allometric growth. Condition factor range (2.41-1.50) recorded for E. fimbriata was higher than (0.50-0.45) range value recorded for M. cephalus. The study concluded that the two species exhibited negative allometric growth pattern and the environment was for conducive for E. fimbriata than for M. cephalus. The variations in growth of the species could be attributed to prevailing ecological conditions of the environment. Therefore, sustainable fish stock management should be carried out

    Analysis of Fringescale Sardine Fishing Grounds (Sardinella fimbriata) Based on Sea Surface Temperature and Chlorophyll-A in Tegal Waters, Indonesia

    An alternative that can be done in determining the fishing area is to use remote sensing technology through the approach of sea surface temperature distribution and chlorophyll-a. The purpose of this study was to determine the value of the distribution of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a, as well as analyze the relationship between sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a on Fringescale sardine (Sardinella fimbriata). The research method used is the descriptive method. The research data taken are in-situ data and SNPP Viirs satellite imagery data, as well as capture data from 2018 – 2022. Data analysis used multiple linear regression methods and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that the sea surface temperature distribution value ranged from 29.5°C – 29.9°C and chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.0545 mg m-3 – 0.4022 mg m-3. The value of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a in Tegal waters on land tends to have a higher value compared to high seas waters. Analysis conducted between sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a on catches found a coefficient of determination of 0.74 or 74% affecting the total catch. The partial correlation between sea surface temperature and catch is 0.81 or 81%. The correlation between chlorophyll-a and catch is 0.86 or 86% where this value is included in the very strong category in influencing the catch of Sardinella fimbriata. Fishermen no longer rely on instinct to predict potential fishing zone each season, but it has taken advantage of variables that affect the presence of S. fimbriata using potential fishing zone map

    The Effect of Giving Lamtoro Leaf Meal (Leucaena leucocephala) with Different Concentrations in Feed on the Growth and Survival Rate of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

    This research aims to determine the effect of adding Lamtoro leaf flour to feed at different levels on the growth and survival of Tilapia. The test fish seeds used were relatively the same, namely approximately ± 5-8 cm, obtained from one of the members of the fish cultivator group in Kertayasa Village, Pangandaran. The containers used in this research were 12 with a net size of 1x1x1m3. The density of Tilapia seeds during the research was 20 fish/plot with the amount of feed provided being 5% of the fish biomass. The method used in this research was an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments used were (A) without giving Lamtoro leaf flour (control), (B) giving 5% Lamtoro leaf flour, (C) giving 10% Lamtoro leaf flour and (D) giving 15% Lamtoro leaf flour. This research was carried out for 40 days starting in May-June 2023, taking place in Kertayasa Village, Cijulang District, Pangandaran Regency. Parameters observed included absolute weight growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and survival rate (SR). The results showed that giving Lamtoro leaf flour to feed had a significant effect (P<0.05) on absolute weight growth with the highest treatment being treatment C (10% Lamtoro leaf flour) at 20 g, but no significant effect (P>0.05) to the value of feed conversion ratio and survival rate

    Aquaculture in Algeria: Current Status, Analysis, and Considerations for Commercial Development

    Aquaculture in Algeria has developed significantly since the 1920s, primarily focusing on oyster and mussel farming. Establishing the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MPRH) in 1999 marked a crucial milestone for the industry. Despite challenges in data collection, Algerian aquaculture production reached only 4,779.29 tonnes in 2021, showing a mere 0.2% of African production and 0.0044% of world aquaculture production. More than half of production comes from marine fish cultured in private-sector sea cages. However, shrimp production is almost null. The taxonomic composition of Algerian aquaculture is diverse, with marine and freshwater fish species playing prominent roles. Despite these challenges, the aquaculture field in Algeria has demonstrated an impressive annual growth rate of 12.49% and receives continuous government support. Nevertheless, limited infrastructure, a shortage of expertise, and the need for further research pose significant obstacles. Efforts are underway to integrate aquaculture with agriculture in Saharan zones, further facilitated by governmental support. Overcoming challenges and promoting sustainability through strengthening research capacities, fostering collaboration, and providing financial support is crucial for the advancement of industry. By addressing challenges and embracing sustainability, the aquaculture sector in Algeria can unlock its full potential, ensuring food security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability

    The Use of (O. Basilicum) Extract to Treat Litopenaeus vannamei Disease the Infected Bacteria Vibrio parahaemolyticus

    This research aims to treat vaname shrimp disease  infected with bacteriaVibrio parahaemolyticus. In this research, we used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment being tested was the treatment of vaname shrimp disease by soaking in basil (O. basilicum) leaf extract with different concentrations, namely: Treatment A (0 mg/ml), treatment B (1.56 mg/ml), treatment C (3.12 mg/ml) and treatment D (12.5 mg/ml). The parameter observed was the number of bacterial coloniesV. parahaemolyticus maintenance media and in the hepatopancreas of vaname shrimp. Apart from that, observations were made on the survival rate of vaname shrimp and water quality parameters. The research results found that the best concentration in the treatment of diseaseV. parahaemolyticus in vaname shrimp at a concentration of 12.5 mg/ml with the lowest number of bacterial colonies in the rearing media, namely 1.20 x 102 CFU/ml. In the hepatopancreas of vaname shrimp, the lowest number of colonies was obtained at a treatment concentration of 12.5 mg/ml, namely 1.12 x 102 CFU/ml. The highest survival rate was obtained at a treatment concentration of 12.5 mg/ml of 86,67±5,77%. The range of water quality in research observations was obtained as follows salinity 28.72-29.05 ppt, temperature 26.71- 27.25OC, oxygen ranges from 5.72-7.81, pH 7.18-8.13 and ammonia 0.033-0.041ppm. Water quality during the research was in the optimal range for the life of vaname shrimp

    Resource Efficiency and Economic Efficiency of Fish Farms in the Southeast of Côte d’Ivoire

    In Côte d\u27Ivoire, fish farming is seen as a supplement to fish production. A more efficient use of resources in the production process would assure sustainable fish production. Using a data envelopment analysis (DEA) model and cost-benefit analysis, this study examines the resource efficiency and economic efficiency of 32 fish farms in the southeast of Côte d\u27Ivoire. The results revealed that fish farmers showed low performance, with average technical efficiency scores of 0.738 (CRS) and 0.575 (SBM) and an average economic score of 0.553. The most technically and economically efficient fish farmers use industrial feed. The study found that fish farmers caused excesses in resource utilization, resulting in a shortfall in output utilizing DEA model scenarios. Scenario-3, based on the slack-based model, minimizing resources while maximizing output, revealed that reducing resource excesses would have increased output by 16.18%. Based on the cost-benefit analysis, fish farms produced a positive gross and net profit margin. According to the findings of this study, policymakers should play a significant role in improving fish farmers\u27 access to quality feed and fingerlings. Furthermore, fish farmers must be trained in sustainable production and pond management procedures

    Effects of PAH Mixtures on Haematological, Hepatic and Oxidative Stress Biomarkers in Clarias gariepinus

    Haematological, hepatic and oxidative stress parameters in juvenile Clarias gariepinus exposed to a combined ternary mixture of naphthalene, phenanthrene and benzo[a]pyrene were investigated under static-renewal bioassay conditions. The test organisms were exposed to two levels of treatments of the mixed compounds for a period of 35 days. Red blood cell (RBC) count, haemoglobin (Hb) concentration and haematocrit (Hct) were significantly lowered in exposed fish compared to the control. Significant decreases were also observed in mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC). White blood cell (WBC) and platelet (PLT) counts were significantly raised in exposed organisms compared to the control. There were significant reductions in total plasma protein and bilirubin. While increases in superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were significant, that of glutahthione s-tranferase (GST) was not significant

    This research aims to analyze the productivity of freshwater fish farming with a floating net caramba system in Cibinong Village, Jatiluhur District, Purwakarta Regency. In addition to some characteristics of farmers and aquaculture businesses, an assessment of good fish farming methods is also used as complementary data for research. zone 1 or coincides in Cibinong Village, namely at the Port of LLASDP Usman Embankment. The study will run from December 2022 to May 2023. This research is descriptive quantitative using survey method. The data required are quantitative data that are primary and secondary. Primary data were collected through two types of collection techniques, in the form of observation and interviews by filling out questionnaire sheets. While secondary data in this study were obtained data from the Fisheries and Livestock Service, Central Statistics Agency, books, scientific journals, theses, internet, and other reference materials from previous research. The object of research is a floating net caramba freshwater fish farmer in Cibinong village. The sampling as respondents was carried out by purposive sampling method. The results showed that the productivity of freshwater fish farming business in floating net caramba amounted to 482,265 tons / ha, fast water ponds 434,771 tons / ha, and calm water ponds 18,547 tons/ha. The productivity of Tilapia in cages 7x7 m2 produces as much as 14,286 kg / m2, Carp in cages 7x14 m2 produce 10,204 kg/m2, and Patin in cages 7x14 m2 produce 25,510 kg/m2

    Aims: Nile tilapia is one of the most consumable and economical fish species in Bangladesh, traditionally co-cultured by sharing with prawn, shrimp and Indian major carp. In tilapia monoculture, suitable protein level in the diet is crucial for better growth of the fish as well as being economically viable. Addressing this aspect, here in this experiment we tried to adopt suitable and economically sustainable feed for better tilapia growth and production. Place and Duration of Study: The experiment was carried out for 75 days in the wet laboratory of FMRT discipline of Khulna University. Methodology: Three available commercial feed with protein percentages of 32.5% (T1), 35% (T2) and 28% (T3) were fed to the juvenile tilapia (mean weight 0.31g) under the laboratory condition. Fish were nursed in rectangular glass aquaria tank (volume 25L) with each three replications for 75 days at the stocking density of 25fry/tank to determine the effect of these feed on growth of tilapia fry. Results: After 75 days culture period the final weight of tilapia under treatment T1 (4.68±0.28) were significantly (p<0.05) higher than treatment T2 (4.01±0.19) and T3 (3.26±0.39). Similarly, the highest SGR was found in T1 followed by T2 and T3, however no significant difference observed among the treatments. FCR was significantly different among the treatment, where the lowest FCR was found in T1 and higher at T3. In contrary, PER was opposite to FCR values, higher in T1 and lower in T3. Again, significant different were observed in protein, lipid and ash content of tilapia among the three treatments. Water quality parameters were found at suitable farming ranges throughout the experimental period. Conclusion: The finding of this experiment suggested that 32.5% protein enriched feed can be suitable for the better growth of tilapia
