Study the Socio-economic Status of Fishers of Egra-I Block of Purba Medinipur District, West Bengal, India
The present study was carried out to assess the socio-economic condition of fishermen of Egra-I block in Purba Medinipur district during the period from August 2022 to December 2022. The data were collected from 65 fishermen through survey sheet. The study was executed on the basis of personal interview. The study shows that most of the fishermen (95%) were Hindus, where 5% Muslims. The educational level of fishermen was very poor, 2% illiterate, 75% Primary pass, 15% Secondary pass and only 8% Higher Secondary pass. The housing condition of fishermen is maximum kutcha (65%), pucca (25%) and semi-pucca (10%). It was observed that there were 85% nuclear and 15% joint families. The annual income of fishermen varies from Rs.45,000 to Rs.1,00000. The main occupation of fishermen is the cultivation of paddy and ground nut. Fishing is the secondary occupation
Analysis of the Manufacturing Process and Organoleptic Test of Salted Anchovy Fish in the Katapang Doyong Pangandaran
The research is aimed at analyzing the production of both foreign and ORGANOLEPTIC quality subsidies produced in west Java, Indonesia. The research was carried out from 2023 to March 20, 2023. The research method used is survey. The research procedure takes place in two stages. The first takes into consideration the production of a saltwater anchovy product and the second stage tests the quality of the resulting salty teri product. An analysis of the manufacture of salty anchovies is made by observation of production places and interviews with workers and business owners. Organoleptic quality testing is done with suspension tests. The government has set the 2007 state budget at 8.25 percent for the first time in a row, he said. Data obtained is decrypted. According to research, the production of saltfish in pangandaran, west Java - Indonesia includes receiving raw materials, salting, washing, cleaning, and sorting. Recent surveys show more than 7 organoleptic values. According to sni 2721-1:2009, the salty anchovies from the Mr. Nono\u27s production house is already qualified because of the conditions for the quality and security of the salt-fish food for a minimum organoleptic value is 7
The Relationship between the Level of Knowledge of Quality and Price of Biodegradable Tote Bags from Seaweed Carrageenan Eucheuma Cottoni against Purchasing Decisions Case Studies in Cibinong District, Bogor Regency and Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regen
This study aims to see the relationship between the level of knowledge, product quality, and price of biodegradable tote bag products from seaweed carrageenan (Eucheuma cottoni) on purchasing decisions so that product improvements and modifications can be made. The research was conducted in Cibinong District, Bogor Regency as a general segmentation, and in Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency as a student segmentation. This study used quantitative descriptive method with spearman rank correlation test. Samples were taken using purposive sampling techniques as many as 80 respondents. Based on the results of research on the consumer characteristics of biodegradable tote bags, which are dominated by women with an age range of 21-25 years, types of student work with income levels > IDR 1,000,000, have used tote bags with intensity of use every month and from fabric. The results of the spearman rank correlation test were obtained for the level of knowledge, product quality, and product price, namely 0.538, 0.474, and 0.505. Product quality and product price have a strong relationship with the purchase decision of biodegradable tote bags from seaweed carrageenan (Eucheuma cottoni). Meanwhile, the level of knowledge has a strong relationship to the decision to purchase biodegradable tote bags from seaweed carrageenan (Eucheuma cottoni)
Effects of Different Feeding Frequencies on Growth Performance and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) of Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus
The study was conducted to assess the growth performance and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of Oreochromis niloticus fry reared in experimental ponds. A stocking density of 360 fish/decimal with three feeding frequency T1 (four times/day), T2 (three times/day) and T3 (two times/day) was maintained each with three replications. The fry was initially fed at 30% of their body weight and the rate was reduced up to 5% gradually at the final stage. The survival rate was 95.65±0.367, 93.00±0.709 and 90.50±0.707 % in T1, T2 and T3, respectively. The best FCR value was obtained in T1 (0.983±0.0057) and the significantly (p˂0.05) highest fish production was also observed in T1 (65.67±0.52 kg/dec/120 days). At the end of the experiment, the mean weight gain was recorded as 327.49±2.32, 294.55±0.87 and 244.72±2.33 g in T1, T2 and T3, respectively. The highest percent weight gain (%) was observed in T1 (5468.78±38.87) followed by T2 (5167.54±27.13) and T3 (4293.27±17.36). The specific growth rate (SGR) was also highest in T1 (3.48±0.03) while the lowest SGR was found in T3 (3.15±0.01%). The results revealed that feeding frequency effect positively on the growth performance of Tilapia
Studies on Mortality and Histopathological Alteration on the Gills of Oreochromis niloticus Juveniles Following Exposure to Ethanolic Extract of Phramenthera capitata under Laboratory Conditions
The study was conducted using two replicate (Batch A and B) for 96 hours under controlled laboratory conditions, with five different concentrations of the extract ranging from 0 to 40 mg/l. The results of the study revealed that the extract had a concentration-dependent toxic effect on the test organisms, with induced behavioural changes such as abnormal and uncoordinated swimming movement, restlessness, respiratory difficulties, and attempts at jumping out. The alterations of physico-chemical parameters of the test water were also observed, indicating the adverse effects of the extract on the aquatic environment. The 96 hours LC50 for Oreochromis niloticus was determine to be 22.124 mg/l representing a log-transformed concentration of 1.345 mg/l. This is the concentration where 50% of the test organisms is expected to die at the end of the 96 hours’ bioassay. The histopathological examination of the gills revealed pathological changes in the test organisms at concentrations of 20, 30, and 40 mg/l whereas no histomorphological changes was observed at 0 and 10 mg/l concentrations of the extract. The result of the present findings suggests that ethanolic extract of P. capitata had severe impacts on the test organisms resulting in mortality and gill damage
Social Mapping of the Fisheries Community in Bojongsoang, Bandung Regency
Social mapping or social mapping is a comprehensive and systematic approach used to gather data and information about the various aspects of a specific area. It involves understanding the social, cultural, and environmental characteristics of the community residing in that area. The process of social mapping was carried out in the Bojongsoang District, encompassing the sub-districts of Tegalluar, Lengkong, Cipagalo, Buahbatu, Bojongsoang, and Bojongsari, situated in the Bandung Regency. This comprehensive study was conducted over a period spanning from December 2022 to June 2023. The research methodology employed in this study involves a qualitative descriptive analysis conducted through a survey. The survey includes direct field observations and interviews with randomly selected respondents who are engaged in tilapia aquaculture. The study involved a total of 45 tilapia farmers and 7 policy stakeholders from each village. The characteristics of respondents who are fish farmers in the Bojongsoang District can be differentiated based on social and economic factors. Approximately 96% of the respondents chose tilapia farming as their main livelihood. Men play a primary role in running the tilapia farming business, while women are also involved in some aspects. The majority of the population adheres to the Islamic religion and belongs to the Sundanese ethnic group. There are kinship ties between the local community and the owners of tilapia farming land. Social stratification exists with the highest positions held by the district head (Camat), members of the regional legislative council (DPRD), and religious scholars (ulama). Meanwhile, community leaders and elders occupy the middle position, while the general population holds the lowest position. Based on the research, the author\u27s recommendations include the need for land use management for tilapia farming practitioners in Bojongsoang and the importance of policy evaluation for stakeholders in the area
Analysis of Fisheries Production Center Development in Nila Village, Ciamis Regency, Indonesia
Ciamis Regency is one of the areas that has a large enough fishery potential of 51,626 tons. The potential of the area that is owned is able to make a force for the development of the Ciamis Regency area. This study aims to analyze potential problems and issues by providing a strategy that must be applied. This research uses a case study method. Data were obtained from related agencies, the results of interviews and filling out questionnaires directly to cultivators. The analysis used is SWOT analysis. Based on the results of the SWOT analysis, the chosen strategy is the SO strategy, which is included in the aggressive strategy, which means that Kampung Nila Kawali can maximize existing strengths and take advantage of opportunities. The chosen strategy for the development of the kawali fishing village includes (1). Carry out or intensify available cultivation land through the use of government assistance, (2). Applying the latest cultivation technology through training activities (3). Perform certification of tilapia broodstock and seeds
Effects of Dietary Vitamin E Supplementation on Growth Performance, Body Composition of Golden Trevally, Gnathanodon speciosus
Golden trevally, Gnathanodon speciosus is a new candidate for aquaculture in Viet Nam. This species has rapid growth, high market value, delectable flavour. Finding solutions to enhance production by promoting growth is necessary in golden trevally aquaculture. Vitamin E is one of the feed supplements which has proven the benefit on other aquaculture species but there has not been any study on golden trevally. Therefore, this experiment was designed to test the effect of vitamin E on the golden trevally, Gnathanodon speciosus. Three levels of vitamin E (50, 100, and 200 mg kg-1 diet) were supplemented to the basal diet (control diet). There was 4 diet treatments and 3 replicates for each treatment. The golden trevally (initial weight 7.63 g ± 0.13 (SEM)) were fed experimental diets for eight weeks. The growth performance and protein and lipid content of tissues were evaluated. At the end of the feeding trial (week 8), the presence of vitamin E in a fish\u27s diet resulted in a significant increase in its growth rate (P < 0.05). The survival rate of fish fed diets containing 50 - 200 mg of vitamin E was substantially higher than that of control fish. In addition, protein and lipid levels in the flesh of golden trevally increased significantly as vitamin levels in their diets rose. For optimal growth and survival, it is recommended to supplement the diet of golden trevally with at least 50 mg of vitamin E per kilogramme. In conclusion, supplementing the diet with vitamin E improves growth, survival, and body composition in juveniles of this species. As this experiment is the first study on the effects of vitamin E on golden trevally, it is worthy of investigation
Effects of Growth Promoter-Enriched Farm-Made Feeds on the Growth, Flesh Quality and Economics of Labeo rohita Culture
Aims: The study compared the effects of three growth promoters enriched farm-made feeds with a commercial carp grower feed on growth, flesh compositions and palatability, and economics of Labeo rohita culture.
Study Design: The study was carried out through four treatments with three replications in each treatment. A commercial carp feed was used as control (T1, without growth promoter) and three experimental feeds were formulated by using locally available ingredients with the addition of three growth promoters viz., charger gel (CG), eon fish grower (EG) and aquazyme plus (AP) treated as T2, T3 and T4, respectively. Fifteen juveniles of L. rohita with initial weights ranging from 131.17±9.60g to 133.33±8.84g were stocked in each cage (96ft3) and served a daily ration of 5% body weight.
Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted in 12 cages set in an experiment pond at the Department of Fisheries, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh for 80 days (June-August, 2022).
Methodology: Growth and feed utilization parameters by means of weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and chemical composition viz., crude protein, lipid, carbohydrate, fiber, ash and moisture content of feed and fish flesh along with palatability indicators viz., odor, taste and texture were evaluated according to standard formulae, AOAC methods and organoleptic sensory technique, respectively.
Results: CG, EG, and AP enriched feed exhibited significantly better growth performance, feed efficiency, flesh composition and palatability indicators compared to the control feed. Additionally, CG enriched feed was the most economically efficient followed by EG and AP enriched feed in terms of feed cost/kg production.
Conclusion: The findings conclude that charger gel enriched farm-made feed is more economical and yields better growth and flesh quality of L. rohita than the selected commercial feed
Gill Net Fishery Development Strategy in Cilacap Districk, Central Java Province, Indonesia
Capture fisheries require resource management to optimize fishing activities, followed by efforts to maintain ecosystems and preserve fish resources as catch targets from the threats of degradation and extinction. For that a descriptive research was conducted from January-July 2021 on stakeholders, divided into two, namely the main and secondary groups and the data collected through questionnaire forms, interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) in Cilacap districk.
The collected data was analysed using scoring method with various respondents. Stakeholders give a rating or value of 1,2,3,4 on the strengths and opportunities factors, Giving a rating of 4,3,2,1 for the opposite of the level of importance of the weaknesses and threats factors.
The strategy formulations used are SWOT analysis using the Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threats (SWOT) and Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM) analysis. The matching of the selected strategy is Strength Opportunity (SO) with the largest score: 1.34 and 1.06. The strategic priorities are area and fishing time with a Total Attractive Score (TAS) of 4.2439, increasing fishermen\u27s human resources (4.0715), modernizing and modifying fleets and lay gill nets (3.6098), utilizing potential for export needs (3.317)
