    Genetic Diversity Analysis of Poeciliidae Fish Using RAPD-PCR Method

    There are many species of Poeciliidae fish in nature. Poeciliidae is a family of freshwater fish in the order Cyprinodontiformes and are well-known aquarium fish, such as guppies, mollies, platies and swordtails. Therefore, genetic analysis on Poeciliidae is important to collect information about biodiversity, genetic classification, and study developments that occurred during evolution. One approach to determine genetic diversity in many fish species can use Random Amplification Polymorphic DNA (RAPD). This study aims to analyze the genetic diversity of Poeciliidae fish using the RAPD-PCR method. This research was conducted at the Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Indonesia. The samples used were guppy fish (1), platy (2), molly (3), swordtail (4), and goldfish (5). RAPD-PCR was performed using OPA-6 primer. Procedures include sampling, isolation or extraction of DNA, DNA amplification using the RAPD technique, electrophoresis, and data analysis using NTSys. Genetic diversity of  Poecillidae can be analyzed using RAPD-PCR. The phylogenetics of the Poeciliidae fish samples analyzed using OPA-6 showed that the guppy fish species (sample 1) are closely related to the platy fish (fish sample 2). Furthermore, the clade branched out with sample 3 (molly fish), and the three samples are related to sample 4 (swordtail fish)

    Analysis of the Economic Potential of the Fisheries Sector as a Basic Sector in Cianjur Regency West Java Province

    This research aims to analyze the economic potential of the fisheries sector, whether it is a basic or non-basic sector in Cianjur Regency, West Java Province. This research was conducted in Cianjur Regency, West Java Province. The time of the research was carried out in January-April 2023. This research used data on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Cianjur Regency and West Java Province on the basis of 2010 constant prices according to business field 2016-2021. GRDP is the total value added to goods and services produced by all business units in a certain area. The method for determining the basic and non-basic sectors uses Location Quetion (LQ) analysis by comparing the regency fishery sector with the fishery sector of West Java Province. Location Question analysis is a calculation technique to be able to find out the basic or non-basic sector by comparing the percentage of the contribution of the fisheries sector. Based on the calculation results of the Location Question (LQ) analysis of the fisheries sector in Cianjur Regency, it was found that in 2016-2021 it had an average LQ value of 5.506 (> 1), in which case the Cianjur Regency fisheries sector is the basic sector. This shows that each year has a comparative advantage, meaning that the production of the Cianjur Regency fishery sector can meet the needs of the community in its own region and is able to meet demand from other regions

    The Use of Fermented Banana Stems as a Source of Probiotics for the Growth and Survival of Carp Fry (Cyprinus carpio L.)

    One of the obstacles that exist in this carp hatchery business is the lack of knowledge about the quality of feed that is not in accordance with the nutrients needed by fish. Feed quality that does not match the needs of the fish will lead to a low life-pass rate and fish growth rate. To overcome this, feed mixtures are made using fermented banana stems as a source of probiotics. The use of probiotics becomes an internal solution to produce optimal feed growth and efficiency, reduce production costs, and ultimately reduce environmental burdens due to waste accumulation in waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the right dose and effectiveness of adding probiotics from fermented banana stems mixed directly in carp seed feed on the growth and survival of carp fry. This study was designed using a complete randomised design (CRD). It consisted of 4 treatments and 3 replication for a total of 12 experimental units. The treatments used in this study were treatment A (control), treatment B (1.5 ml/100 g feed), treatment C (3.0 ml/100 g feed), and treatment D (4.5 ml/100 g feed). Based on the results of the study, the highest growth in absolute length and absolute weight and the highest survival occurred in treatment C (3.0 ml/100 g of feed)

    Estimation of Fecundity and Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) of Somileptes gongota (Hamilton, 1822) from the River Padma in Rajshahi District, Bangladesh

    The study focused on assessing the fecundity and gonadosomatic index (GSI) of the Gongota Loach species, scientifically known as Somileptes gongota, during the period spanning from April 2019 to March 2020. The fecundity of S. gongota exhibited a range of values, spanning from 3375 to 73459.75. Out of a total of 36 specimens, 16 were identified as male while 20 were identified as female. The typical length of female specimens varies between 5.4 cm and 12.5 cm, with a corresponding body weight range of 3.72g to 19.52g. The recorded mean GSI values for the twelve-month period from April to March were as follows: 0.158, 0.231, 0.225, 0.242, 0.176, 0.00, 0.00, 0.13, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, and 0.134. The lowest mean GSI value of 0.00 was observed during the months of September, October, December, January, and February. Conversely, the highest mean GSI value of 0.242 was recorded in the month of July. According to the monthly mean GSI of female individuals, the observed spawning season for this species spanned from April to July throughout the duration of the study, with the peak season occurring in July. The highest recorded level of fecundity was observed in the month of July, reaching a value of 73459.75. Conversely, the lowest level of fecundity was recorded in August, with a value of 3375. The study revealed a significant correlation between fecundity and body weight, as represented by the equation F=4.51BW-40115, with a coefficient of determination (r2) of 0.835. The observed fecundity values varied between 3375 and 73459.75, while the corresponding body weights ranged from 3.72g to 19.52g. The correlation between fecundity and standard length was determined to be F=0.012 SL3.628 (r2=0.794). The results of the regression analysis revealed a cubic relationship between fecundity and standard length, as well as a linear relationship between fecundity and body weight.     Beach Seine Fisheries in the United Arab Emirates on Sea of Oman

    The catch of beach-seine operating in East Coast of the United Arab Emirates during the period from January to December 2022 was investigated. The catch composition was represented by 37 species belong to 22 families. Engraulidae, Leiognathidae, Clupeidae and Carangidae were the most dominants families, represented by 34.21, 22.62, 19.28 and 11.14% in mass respectively. A total of 46210kg of fish were caught by 41 beach seines in the study areas. Monthly CPUE ranged from 430 to 1446kg per operation. The highest CPUE was recorded in March, while the lowest CPUE was in July. In the present study, the average catch of beach seine was 1,127.07kg/haul/boat. In conclusion, the use of beach seines for fishing can help to sustainably manage fisheries by targeting specific populations of fish and reducing bycatch. It can also provide food and income for local communities

    The Gonadal Length-Weight Relationships of Hilsa Shad (Tenualosa ilisha) in Relation to Fecundity, Total Length and Body Weight

    The current study was carried out to estimate the range and average number of ova (eggs) released by a female Hilsa shad (Tenualosa ilisha) individual during the breeding season, as well as to establish a relationship between Fecundity (F) and Total Length (TL), Total Weight (TW), Gonadal Length (GL) and Gonadal Weight (GW). The fecundity of T. ilisha was determined by studying the ovaries of 20 individuals with TL ranging from 37.60 cm to 49.90 cm. In this study, only ovaries bearing nearly ripe eggs were considered for the data collection. For each specimen, the total number of ova was computed by multiplying the estimated number of ova in the sample by the ratio of total ovary weight to sample weight. The largest specimen (TL 499 mm and TW 1252 g) was found to have 2272864 eggs, while the smallest (TL 376 mm and TW 617 g) had 835461 eggs. The association between Fecundity and TL, TW, GL, and GW were found to be significant at the 5% level (p<0.05) of significance. It was also discovered that for significant \u27t\u27 values, Fecundity increases linearly with Total Length, Total Weight, and Gonadal Weight

    Sensory Quality Analysis (Texture) and Moisture Content to Predict the Shelf Life of Bakpia Filled Seaweed (Eucheuma cottonii)

    Aims: Bakpia is a snack made from a mixture of mung beans and sugar wrapped in pastry and baked. Bakpia is a popular light snack consumed by the Indonesian community. This research aims to determine the shelf life of seaweed-filled bakpia and regular bakpia using the Accelerated Shelf Life Test (ASLT) method. Place and Duration: The study was conducted at the Chemistry Laboratory of Pangkep State Polytechnic of Agriculture and the Chemistry Laboratory of Makassar Ministry of Labaoratory Industry from February to May 2023. Study Design: The research design involved using the ASLT method to analyze the minimum quality limit at which the bakpia cookies product starts to be rejected by consumers. Samples of the product were obtained from a local mini-market that sells bakpia. The parameters observed were the initial and final moisture content during storage at 15°C, 30°C, and 45°C, as well as the texture before and after the bakpia cookies product was rejected by consumers. Results: Estimating the shelf life of seaweed bakpia tausa and bakpia tausa using the ASLT method can use a degradation reaction approach (absorption of water content) as a critical parameter. The kinetic reactions of degradation (absorption of water content) of seaweed bakpia tausa and bakpia tausa follow the first order reaction. The shelf life of seaweed bakpia tausa and bakpia tausa uses the ASLT method through a different approach to the critical parameter of water content for each product. At storage temperatures between 15°C and 45°C, the shelf life of bakpia tausa is longer than that of seaweed bakpia tausa. The average shelf life of seaweed bakpia tausar at 30°C is 59.5 days while bakpia lausa is 64.8 days (more than two months). Conclutions: The shelf life of seaweed bakpia tausa and bakpia tausa uses the ASLT method through a different approach to the critical parameter of water content for each product. At storage temperatures between 15°C and 45°C, the shelf life of bakpia tausa is longer than that of seaweed bakpia tausa. The average shelf life of seaweed bakpia tausar at 30°C is 59.5 days while bakpia lausa is 64.8 days (more than two months)

    Economic Mapping of Fish Farming Communities in Cikancung Village, Cikancung District, Bandung Regency

    This research aims to compile economic mapping of fish farming communities and the economic factors that influence fisheries development in cikancung village, cikancung district, bandung regency. This research method is a survey method. This research was carried out from july 2023 – aug 2023 in cikancung village. The data required is qualitative data, namely primary data and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through interviews and questionnaires to fish cultivators in cikancung village, while secondary data was obtained through documents from the cikancung village government and the food security and fisheries office of bandung regency, west java. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The data analysis method in this study is a qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that the economic conditions of most cultivators had income in the low category, namely less than idr 5,000,000 per month. The average value of the productivity of fish farming is 0.6 kg/year/m2. The economic factors that hinder cultivators are the lack of capital and the reduced area of ​​cultivator land. There is a need for ongoing research regarding economic mapping by using variables and other methods to monitor What are economic conditions of the fish farming community in Cikancung village, cikancung district, bandung regency and also there needs to be more intensive outreach and training activities To fish farmers in cikancung village so that business activities are carried out Implemented can be more advanced and developed

    Identification of Ectoparasites and Endoparasites in Snakehead Fish (Channa striata) and Climbing Perch Fish (Anabas testudineus) Caught in the Sebangau River of Indonesia

    Ectoparasites are parasites that can infect the external organs of fish (skin, gills and the outer surface of the body) while endoparasites are parasites that infect the internal organs of fish. This study aims to determine the types of ectoparasites and endoparasites that infect snakehead fish (Channa striata) and climbing perch fish (Anabas testudineus). Sampling was carried out at the Sebangau River while the identification was carried out at the Fish Quarantine Station, Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products in Palangka Raya. Examination of ectoparasites includes mucus, gills, scales, and fish fins. Examination of endoparasites by observing the organs of the fish such as liver, meat, intestines and stomach. There are eight types of ectoparasites in snakehead fish, namely Trichodina sp, Dactylogyrus sp, Gyrodactylus sp, Apiosoma sp, Tetrahymena sp, Aelosoma sp, Lamproglena sp, and Henneguya sp, while there are four types of endoparasites in snakehead fish, namely Camallanus sp, Procamallanus sp, Neoechynorynchus sp , and Senga sp. There are five types of ectoparasites in the climbing perch  fish caught in the Sebangau River, namely Trichodina sp, Dactylogyrus sp, Aelosoma sp, Myxobolus sp, and Epistylis sp. Meanwhile, there is only one type of endoparasite that attack snakehead fish, namely Procamallanus sp. The total prevalence of snakehead fish’s ectoparasites was 81.7%, with an intensity level of 6.1 individual parasites per fish. The total prevalence of ectoparasites in climbing perch fish is 45%, with an intensity level of 5.4 individual parasites per fish. The total prevalence of snakehead fish endoparasites is 65%, with an intensity level of 9.8 individual parasites per fish. The prevalence of climbing perch fish’s endoparasites is 31.7%, with an intensity level of 19 individual parasites per fish

    Biodiversity and Distribution Patterns of Clams (Tridacninae) on Coral Reefs in Kayu Angin Bira Island, Indonesia

    This research aims to find out the biodiversity and distribution patterns of clams and the relationship between clam abundance and coral reef conditions in the Waters of Kayu Angin Bira Island, Kepulauan Seribu. The research was conducted between April and July 2022, with field data collection taking place in September 2022 at four chosen stations. These stations were selected based on variations in water depth and were situated in the South, West, North, and East regions of the waters surrounding Kayu Angin Bira Island. The data collection was conducted using survey methods. Coral reef data collection using LIT (Line Intercept Transect) method and clam observation using belt transect. The results showed that in the waters of Bira Kayu Angin Island, 25 individuals of 2 species of bivalve class were found, namely Tridacna squamosa, Tridacna crocea. The highest relative abundance of clams is found at the eastern station which is 20% and the lowest relative abundance is found at the southern, western and northern stations which is only 8%. Low diversity index of Tridacninae Clams was discovered at the four stations, which ranged from 0.451 - 0.662 and the uniformity index at the four stations ranged from 0.650 - 0.954, indicates high population uniformity. Based on Morisita distribution index, which ranges from 0.4 - 0.74, the spatial distribution of Tridacninae clams could be assigned as uniform. The relationship between clams and coral reefs is 0.7284, shows that clams have a strong relationship with the condition of coral reefs
