    Analysis of Consumer Satisfaction Level of Ornamental Fish in Jatinegara Ornamental Fish Market

    This study aims to analyze the characteristics possessed by consumers and the level of consumer satisfaction in the Jatinegara Ornamental Fish Market and analyze the main variables that most affect the level of consumer satisfaction. Data collection and processing will be carried out in August – September 2023 located in Jatinegara District, East Jakarta. The research method used is the case study method, with a sampling technique that is purposive sampling. The data analysis used is the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI). The results of this study found that consumer characteristics in the Jatinegara Ornamental Fish Market were dominated by the majority of consumers with an age range of 41-64 years with the majority of the last high school education. The majority of consumers work as private employees with the majority of monthly income of Rp 3,000,000 – Rp 5,000,000. Consumers have made purchases three times per month at the Jatinegara Ornamental Fish Market. These market consumers come from various districts in the East Jakarta Region, including Makassar District, Matraman District, Cakung District, Jatinegara District, Duren Sawit District and Pulo Gadung District. The Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) value of 61.4% in the category is classified as satisfied. The main variable that most affects consumer satisfaction is the product quality variable

    Fish landed at fishing ports generally come from various species, fisheries management has developed into a decentralized system. Tuna is one type of economically important fish in the world and is the third largest fishery commodity in Indonesia.  The aim of this research is to determine the size composition of catches and analyze the relationship between length and weight of hand line tuna catches. Data collection techniques were carried out by observing and measuring as well as interviews with crew members of hand-line fishing boats who landed their catches at the Lonrae Fish Landing Base (FLB).  Descriptive data is presented in the form of tables and graphs. The statistical analysis used is a simple regression between two variables, namely the length and weight of the fish. Next, to get the regression coefficients, the data is processed using the graphical method provided in MS Excel software. The catch of hand line tuna boats landed at FLB Lonrae, consists of three species of tuna, namely: yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) and bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus).  The length-weight relationship of 876 Yellowfin tuna fish obtained a value of b=3.08, the length-weight relationship of 467 Skipjack Tuna fish obtained a b value of 2.71 and the length-weight relationship of 430 Bigeye tuna fish obtained a value of b=2.97 shows positive allometric growth where weight growth is faster than length growth. The tuna species composition observed at PPI Lonrae Bone Regency consisted of 3 species, namely Yellowfin Tuna, Bigeye Tuna and Skipjack.     Moringa Leaf Extract as a Natural Preservative against the Deterioration of Tilapia Fillet during Room Temperature Storage

    This research was conducted to determine the percentage of moringa leaf extract to inhibit the deterioration of the quality of the tilapia fillet as a natural preservative against organoleptic characteristics during room temperature storage. This research was carried out at the Processing of Fishery Products Laboratory, the Aquaculture Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, and the Central Laboratory of Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor. The research method used is experimental. Namely, a tilapia fillet soaked using different concentrations during room temperature storage. The organoleptic test (scoring test) was analyzed by Friedman\u27s non-parametric statistical method consisting of 4 treatments and 20 semi-trained panelists as the number tests. In contrast, the pH testing of the tilapia fillet was analyzed by a descriptive method. Tilapia fillet with Moringa leaf extract soaking treatment consists of 0%, 4%, 8%, and 12% (v/v) for 30 minutes of soaking, then stored at room temperature (25°C-28°C).  Observations occur once every 2 hours, namely at the 0, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th, and 16th hours. The parameters observed included organoleptic characteristics with 20 semi-trained panelists and a value of the tilapia fillet\u27s degree of acidity (pH). The best use of moringa leaf extract at 8% appearance with an organoleptic value of 7.5, aroma of 7.7, and texture of 7.0 with a pH value of 6.8 to 16 hours storage

    Assessing of Water Quality of Lake Dogodogo in Burundi Based on Zooplankton Diversity Indices

    A study of zooplankton diversity and water quality of Lake Dogodogo located in West Burundi was carried out from April to July 2021 in six sampling stations, with four selected in the littoral zone and two remaining in pelagic one. The main objective was to assess the water quality using zooplankton diversity indices for a better management of this fishery resource essential for the surrounding populations. The zooplankton sampling was collected twice a month between 8 A.M and 11 A.M each time. The samples were taken vertically using plankton net with a 50 µm of mesh size, 26 cm in diameter and 0.5m depth. We recorded 30 zooplankton species, 19 of rotifers, 9 of copepods and 2 of cladocerans. The number of species varied from one station to another and from the littoral zone to pelagic zone. The abundance of zooplankton was higher in the pelagic zone than the littoral one. We then highlighted species specific for pelagic zone, such as Anuraeopsis fissa, Brachionus angularis, Brachionus calyciflorus, Brachionus falcatus and Keratella tropica. These latter are indicators of a high trophic level. According to the diversity indices calculated, the Dogodogo’s water quality is moderately polluted by a low level contamination of agricultural origin. Therefore, it is necessary to protect this important resource for fish production purposes, which is essential in protein supply for human life

    Adoption of Aquaculture Technologies and Management Practices, Challenges and Productivity of Fish-Ponds in Kakamega County, Kenya

    There is increasing demand for fish products worldwide. To meet the growing demand there has been increased shift from wild-caught fish to farm-based production. The adoption of best practices in aquaculture is imperative in meeting this natural demand. This study investigated the adoption of best technological and management practices, challenges and productivity of fish-ponds among smallholder aquaculture farmers in Kakemega County, Kenya. Purposive and stratified sampling techniques were used to select 27 aquaculture farmers in 3 out of 12 Sub counties in the area, for interviews. Nine recommended technologies and management practices were used to develop an adoption index for each interviewee. Fish pond productivity was significantly lower for adopters below the median index; t (24) = -3.088, P = .005, with a mean of 196.3 g/m2 for lower index adopters and 449.5 g/m2 for the higher index. Variances in productivity were high. The study finds that the major on-farm challenges included; fish predators, poor quality feeds, insecurity and lack of quality fingerlings. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to test the deviation of views from neutral; score of 3 on a 5-point scale. Market unavailability was not a significant constraint.  There was high demand for fish products. Access to technical information was above 3 (median =4). Risk rating significantly deviated from neutral; there was a view that aquaculture was a risky venture. There were no extreme views on its profitability. In conclusion, the adoption of the technologies aided the productivity. The fish-pond productivity was relatively low and faced major challenges that need to be addressed to enhance the adoption of best practices and increase output from the ponds. Actions by stakeholders to address the challenges both at farm level and at policy level are recommended. Training on risk management strategies for the aquaculture farmers is recommended

    Current Status and Trend on the Adoption of Fish Feed Additives for Sustainable Tilapia Aquaculture Production: A Review

    During fish feed production, feed additives are regarded as an essential component of the fish diet. The use of feed additives in fish feed is essential for boosting the growth and immunity of cultured fish. The aim of this study was therefore to make a comprehensive review of the Current Status and Trend in the Adoption of these fish feed additives for Sustainable tilapia production. An exploratory research design was used in the study to review and comprehend various peer-reviewed papers published in national and international publications on issues surrounding fish feed additives currently used in tilapia aquaculture production and the current and future prospect of essential fish feed additives in use. Feed additives are ingredients that are added in small quantities to fish diets to enhance nutrients and preserve the feed. Preservatives, binders, feeding stimulants, and food colourants constitute common feed additives. With increased growth in aquaculture, the use of additives must be promoted in order to optimize the production of farmed fish. The aim of feed additives in fish feed is to promote healthier and faster fish growth in cultured fish. As a result, fish diets should incorporate the right quantities of feed additives. The conclusions drawn succinctly suggest that fish feed with no feed additives is comparable to "a vehicle without fuel" and should be regarded as poor feed when fed to fish in a culture system. And the end result will be a poor fish growth rate, less resistance to diseases, and hence low productivity in an aquaculture production system

    Biosecurity in Fish Farming: Implementation of the HACCP System at the Djissoumakö Fish Farming Centre - Urban Commune of Siguiri, Guinea

    This study was carried out from 10 January to 20 February 2022 in the urban and peri-urban area of Siguiri and aimed to learn about the application of biosecurity measures in some fish farms in Siguiri. To this end, 6 fish farms were surveyed on the basis of a targeted sampling based on the criteria of accessibility, cooperation of fish farmers and the functional state of these farms, and 20 biosecurity variables were taken in to account. Of all the fish farms surveyed, only one (1) farm applied biosecurity measures, i.e. 15%, and the other five (5) saidtheyhad no knowledge of biosecurity, i.e. 85%.  In conclusion, the knowledge and application of biosecurity measures could undoubtedly help prevent diseases in fish farms, event houghthey are rare, and improve the productivity of fish farmers

    Bacterial Assessment and Isolation of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria from the Indian Major Carp, Labeo rohita

    A bacteriological study of fish is critical to protecting people from potential hazards and serving as an indicator of water contamination. The study was carried out to investigate microorganisms from the Labeo rohita. A total bacterial load was measured in the skin, gills, and intestine. It had a total bacterial load (TBL) of 1.54×109 CFU/g on average. The intestine had the highest average TBL of 2.09×109 CFU/g, while the gill had the lowest average TBL of 1.08×109 CFU/g. Isolated bacteria were grouped based on colony characteristics and then subjected to morphological, physiological, and biochemical analysis for identification up to the genus or species level. Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio spp. were identified as the two microorganisms. After a thorough examination and PCR analysis, the two bacteria, S. aureus and Vibrio spp., were isolated. S. aureus was detected in skin samples from R3 and R5 fish. S. aureus was isolated from R3, R4, and R5 in the gills. S. aureus was found in intestinal samples R2, R3, R4, and R5. The presence of Vibrio spp. was found in the intestines of all fish samples tested, as well as the skin of R4 and R5, and the gills of R2, R3, R4, and R5. The 16S rRNA gene was amplified in all S. aureus isolates, while the Tox-R gene was amplified in all Vibrio spp isolates. The isolated S. aureus and Vibrio tested positive for the 16s rRNA and Tox-R genes, respectively. An antibiotic sensitivity test revealed that the majority of S. aureus and Vibrio spp were susceptible to azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline but resistant to amoxicillin and streptomycin

    Fish cultivators with catfish farming business conditions so far use a combination of commercial feed and alternative feed, and the sensitivity is also calculated if the catfish cultivator uses all commercial feed whether the business is still feasible, so that the contribution of alternative feeds to catfish farming can be known. The aim of this research is to analyze the contribution of using alternative feeds in the catfish business in Labuan Tabu Village, Banjar Regency. This research was conducted in Labuan Tabu Village, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Province. Determination of respondents in this study were taken from catfish cultivators in Labuan Tabu Village, Banjar Regency, as many as 3 people. The contribution of the use of alternative feeds to catfish farming in ground pond media in Labuan Tabu Village, Banjar Regency, it was concluded that Respondent I: Contribution of alternative feed was 91.74%, Respondent II: Contribution of alternative feed was 70.48%, and Respondent III: Contribution alternative feed as much as 62.5%

    Histopathological Analysis of Hexavalent Chromium Toxicity to Ovary and Testis of Freshwater Food Fish, Channa punctatus (Bloch. 1793)

    A major issue nowadays is aquatic contamination by heavy metals like Chromium as a result of industrial, agricultural and domestic activities and cause threat to the aquatic ecosystem. This study\u27s objective was to evaluate the toxicological effects of chromium (VI) in freshwater food fish, Channa punctatus. For the experiment, a medium-sized fish (10 ± 2 cm, 30 ± 5 g) was collected from local aquatic habitat and acclimatised in a lab under controlled conditions. There were one control and three exposed groups having different sublethal concentrations of chromium (LC50/5 = 15.378 mg/l, LC50/10 = 7.689 mg/l, and LC50/20 = 3.844 mg/l). Fish sacrificed to create slides after the desired duration. Compared to control, fish exposed to different subletal concentrations showed substantial alterations in their gonads. The highest adverse effects were seen in the ovary and testes in group 4 (LC50/5) compared to the lower in group 2 (LC50/20) in contrast to the control (group 1), Large intrafollicular gaps and nuclear membrane rupture in stage IInd oocytes were seen in the ovary, whereas intralobular edoema, disruption of the germinal epithelium, and severe vacuolization were recorded in the testes. According to the findings of the current research, chromium (VI) has a negative impact on fish reproductive tissue and disturbs ecological balances
