An Ecological Review of Romanian Philatelic Postage Stamps in Relation to Forest Fruits
Forest products play a vital role in our lives in many ways we can imagine. Berries, for example, are still an important source of food, being of real use in defining a healthy diet and natural medicine. To show that there have been and still are concerns regarding the highlighting of the role of berries in the community, we set out, through this study, to analyze their entire Romanian philatelic history. Thus, through this study, we chose to index, analyze and highlight a series of philatelic issues, which appeared exclusively in Romania, since 1964, which make direct reference to berries. Most of the analyzed materials present the berries in the foreground, as independent postage stamps, but there are also exceptions to the rule. Some stamps capture only the theme tangentially, their illustration reflecting forest fauna species. Also, berries are treated both in direct relation to the fauna species that have berries as a preferential menu, and as part of another unique theme, medicinal plants. On all of this philatelic issues, we set out to make a brief presentation, going from postage stamps to first-day covers (FDCs) and then to maximum postcards and other circulated pieces
Analyzing the Growth and Performance of Agriculture Sector in Nepal
Agriculture is the backbone of Nepalese economy but higher poverty, constant trade deficit and erratic inflation rate has led to the shrinkage of agriculture share in the national GDP from 27.59% in last fiscal year to 26.98% in this fiscal year. Agriculture production rate is increasing at an average rate of 2.7% but is expected to grow at 5.1% this year due to the better monsoon. Nepal shares 0.66%, 0.27%,0.22% and 0.4% in global production of rice, wheat, maize and pulses respectively in the year 2018-19. The production of oilseeds has increased to 9.89% in 2018-19 from 4.68% in 2014-15. The minimal increment to 0.36% in 2018-19 from 0.3% in 2008-09 is noticed in case of production of vegetables. The share of Nepal in global production of fruit is only 0.16% in 2018-19 after increment from 0.1% in 2008-09. The share of Nepal in global milk production is very low i.e.0.247% though dairy sector is in prosperous state in Nepal. After adopting different suggestive measures better growth can be attained in the agriculture sector. The agriculture sector is in booming stage with the help of different government policies. An integrated sustainable approach is necessary to increase the income of people involved in agriculture sector
Analysis of Rainfall and Temperature Changes and Variability over Glen Farm, South Africa
In the agricultural domain, decision-making is greatly guided by agricultural meteorology, which is the science that applies knowledge of weather and climate to qualitative and quantitative improvement in agricultural efficiency. The study area is challenged with increasing multifaceted agricultural production risks and complex agricultural ecosystems, which require analysis and understanding of local rainfall and temperature patterns. Digital technologies, such as the automatic weather station, play a pivotal role to monitor the physical environment, successively. This study engaged on a thorough analysis and interpretation of long-term rainfall and temperature data. The results would enable farmers and other users to comprehend valuable knowledge for improved productivity. The objectives of this paper were to analyse long-term climate data for Glen automatic weather station. To determine decadal climate patterns and trends, determine seasonal shifts, climate variability and climate change and quantify the frequency of the occurrence of weather extremes and develop suitable adaptation strategies relating to agronomic, phenological and physiological data necessary for crop modelling, operational evaluation and statistical analysis. The applied methods entailed Microsoft Excel and INSTAT Plus statistical software, which used to detect the interactions of environmental factors and suitable agricultural productivity. Understanding of rainfall and temperature patterns is required for agricultural management decisions, on planting date selection, crop suitability, livestock adaptation, ecosystem conservation. Agro meteorological knowledge derived from meteorological parameters, temperature, rainfall, wind and weather extremes, and may enhance agricultural productivity. Analysis of long-term and decadal trends in the time series indorse a sequence of alternately increasing and decreasing in mean annual rainfall and air temperature in Glen Farm
Effects of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers on Growth and Yield of Different Crops at Charlands in Bangladesh
The experiment was conducted at the farmer’s fields of three Charlands in Bangladesh during November 2019 to July 2020 for establishing new technologies for enhancement of productivity through innovative soil management practices. The experiments were established in a randomized complete block design using six treatments and three replications. Treatments of the experiments were T1 = FP (Farmers’ Practice) (Control), T2 = RF (Recommended Fertilizer) + Vermicompost (3t/ha), T3 = RF (Recommended Fertilizer) + Quick Compost (3t/ha), T4 = RF (Recommended Fertilizer) + Standard Organic Fertilizers (3t/ha), T5 = RF (Recommended Fertilizer) + Poultry Manure (3t/ha) and T6 = RF (Recommended Fertilizer) + Biochar (3t/ha). The soil status in all selected Charlands were very low to optimum. Results of the experiment showed that application of organic fertilizers along with inorganic fertilizers produced significant (p<0.05) variation in growth and yield parameters of the crops. The findings from the study showed that different organic fertilizers showed better performance compared to Farmer’s practice. The statistically maximum fruit yield (41.35t/ha) of pumpkin, grain yield (3.24t/ha) of millet and tuber yield (43.69t/ha) of sweet potato was recorded in biochar treated T6 treatment compared to other treatments. Besides, the statistically highest fresh fruit yield (29.50t/ha) of snake gourd, fresh fruit yield (20.80t/ha) of okra and yield (74.16t/ha) of Indian spinach were recorded in poultry manure treated T5 treatment compared to other treatments. Comparatively higher growth and yield of different crops were obtained from poultry manure along with inorganic fertilizers which was followed by biochar and quick compost application. It is recommended to the farmers to use organic fertilizers along with inorganic fertilizers
Influence of Bio-fertilizer Application Method with Organic and In-organic Fertilizer on Growth and Yield of Bitter-gourd in Winter Season (Momordica charantia L.)
The experiment was conducted at the Horticulture farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207 during the period of November 2019 – May 2020 to find out Influence of bio-fertilizer application method with organic and in-organic fertilizer on growth and yield of bitter-gourd in winter season .The experiment was consisted of two factors : as- Factor A: Fertilizer (4 levels) T0: control, no fertilizer ,T1: Organic (kitchen compost @1000 kg/ha),T2: in-organic (N46 P40 K 45 ) Kg/ha and T3: Organic (kitchen compost @1000 kg/ha) + in-organic (N23 P20 K23) kg/ha Factors B: Bio-fertilizer application method (3 levels) F1: Seed treatment with bio-fertilizer @ 100ml/250g seed,F2: Seedling treatment with bio-fertilizer @400 ml/500 seedling. And F3: Soil treatment with bio-fertilizer @.046 g/m2. The two factorial experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Maximum plant height (299.69 cm),fruit number per plant (19.96), fruit length(27.11 cm), yield/plant (1.05 kg), yield per plot(6.30kg) and total yield (19.44 t/ha) were found from T3F3 treatment. whereas minimum plant height (90.67 cm), fruit number per plant (1.27), fruit length (4.49 cm), yield/plant (.046 kg), yield per plot(.28 kg) and total yield (.86 t/ha) were found from T0F2(control) treatment .All growth related parameter was collected up to 75 DAS due to COVID-19.This study suggests that T3F3 (Organic (kitchen compost @1000 kg/ha) + in-organic (N23 P20 K23) kg/ha)+ bio-fertilizer (soil treatment) treatment acts as a potential source of plant nutrients for suitable bitter gourd production. The combination of organic, In-organic and soil application of bio-fertilizer (T3F3) gave the highest gross return (Tk. 1458000). The lowest gross return (Tk.85600) was obtained in the control condition where no bio-fertilizer as well as no fertilizer was applied. The combination of organic, inorganic and soil application of bio-fertilizer (T3F3) gave highest benefit cost ratio (3.16) and the lowest benefit cost ratio (0.60) was obtained in combination of control condition (T0F2). So, the economic analysis revealed that the treatment T3F3 combination appeared to be the best for achieving the higher growth, yield and economic benefit of bitter gourd
Yield Response of Short Duration HYV Aman Rice to Transplanting Times in the Coastal Region of Southwestern Bangladesh
Transplanted (T.) aman rice is the major crop in the southwestern coastal region of Bangladesh where most of the fields remain fallow the rest of the year due to the cultivation of late-maturing and long-duration aman rice varieties with low yield potential. Timely transplanting of short-duration HYV varieties increased grain yield and allowed the field to be cleared earlier for the next crop. The experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna during the monsoon (June to December) for investigating the influence of transplanting dates on growth, yield attributes, and yield of Binadhan-7. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design and replicated thrice. The experimental treatment comprised of ten transplanting dates (viz.,9 July, 16 July, 23 July, 30 July, 6 August, 13 August, 20 August, 27 August, 3 September, and 10 September) at 7 days intervals. Data recorded on different growth, yield, and yield contributing parameters were influenced substantially by the dates of transplanting. Results of this study showed that transplanting on 30 July produced the tallest plant (105.40 cm), highest tiller hill-1 (20.40), effective tillers hill-1 (17.30), panicle length (22.22 cm), number of grain panicle-1 (10.34), 1000 grain weight (22.83 g), grain yield (4.72 tha-1), straw yield (5.15 tha-1) and harvest index (47.85%) which were on parity with 6 August of transplanting. From the findings of this study, it can be concluded that from 30 July to 6 of August is optimum and recommended transplanting window for the short duration aman rice variety (Binadhan-7) in the coastal zone of southwestern Bangladesh. Furthermore, this transplanting window resulted in an early harvest and timely vacant the field for winter crop planting
Effects of Feeding Diets Containing Pearl Millet Supplemented with Enzyme on the Carcass and Haematological Values of Broiler Chicken
Pearl millet, which is comparable to maize in terms of its metabolizable energy content is an identified potential replacement for maize in broiler diets. However, as the competition and price of maize continues to spike, the continuous need to completely replace maize in broiler diets is imperative. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of feeding diets containing pearl millet supplemented with enzyme NatuzymeTM on the carcass characteristics and haematological values of broiler chickens. 150 two weeks-old broilers were randomly divided into 5 groups with 10 birds per pen translating into 10 birds per replicate and fed an isonitrogenous (23%CP) starter diet of control diet (A); 0% (B); 10% (C); 20% (D); 30.01% and (E) 37.41 % pearl millet. Similarly, an isonitrogenous (21%CP) finisher diet of control diet (A); 0% (B); 10.64% pearl millet (C); 21.28% (D); 31.92% and (E) 39.27 % of pearl millet for 6 weeks. The birds were randomly allotted to the diets in a completely randomized design with feed and water given ad libitum. With the exception of drumstick of birds fed diet D which was significantly lower than the other diets, the results showed that the carcass values (parameters) of broilers fed 100% pearl millet were similar or non-superior to the control group and the other diets. Similarly, blood parameters were not significantly different between groups. These results show that pearl millet supplemented with enzyme can replace maize in broiler diets without affecting carcass yields and haematological parameters
Performance Evaluation of Rice Mutant Line against Two Widely Grown Rice Cultivar in Mymensingh Region of Bangladesh
Growth performance, yield components and total grain yield of a rice mutant lines were evaluated againest two popular rice varieties on farm experiments within five different upazila of Mymensingh region to find out the better cultivar on the besis of yield and duration. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The study was conducted for two consecutive season that ensure the stability of the mutant line. The results revealed that the cultivar RM(2)-40-©-4-2-8 was recorded highest effective tiller and maximum filled grain in most of the location. Among the all cultivar RM(2)-40-©-4-2-8 was recorded maximum grain yield in most of the location for two consecutive year which was statistically significant from other cultivar
Soil Quality Indices and Agricultural Impact of Swine Waste Open Disposal
Agricultural impact of swine waste open disposal in Ubakala area of Abia State were evaluated. Results indicates an increase in soil temperature with increasing soil depth while soil pH was observed to be slightly acidic. Increased soil nutrients, soil enzymes were recorded from the study. This findings suggest that swine dumps may not be good for agricultural purposes unless adequate treatment measures are taken prior to its application as fertilizer
Assessing the Effect of Landuse/Land Cover (1986-2020) on Soil Loss in Alluvium Geologic Formation Using Geospatial Technology in Southern Nigeria
The occurrence of soil loss is a continuous process and occurs spatially across the earth’s surface. The study of soil loss is a necessity for proper understanding of the processes and the rate of soil loss for conservational purpose. Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM)/Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+)/Operational Land Imager (OLI) image data was acquired for 1986, 2003 and 2020 were used to derive the C factor of the RUSLE model while other factors of the model were kept fixed for the years considering their inability to change easily. The RUSLE model was used to determine the trend of the soil loss on the alluvium geologic formation considering their land use/land cover changes for 1986, 2003 and 2020. The rainfall erosivity of the study area had an average of 8201.45MJmmha-1h-1yr-1. The soil erodibility index of the soils obtained from Alluvium had an average of 0.150tons MJ-1 hmm-1. The slope length and steepness factor of the study area range from 0 to 2.574. the crop cover factor of for 1986 range from 0.52 to 0.87, 2003 range from 0.52 to 0.87 and 2020 range from 0.62 to 0.92. No active field conservation was found out within the study area as described by Wischmeier and Smith. The results obtained show that 1986, 2003 and 2020 had a soil loss of 1966.3, 2167.85 and 3361.14 tonha-1yr-1 respectively. The results show that the study area is experiencing an increased trend of soil loss. This result can serve as guide into understanding the past and current rate of soil loss for soil resource planning and managemen
