    ASSESSING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT: THE CASE OF ARBAMINCH UNIVERSITY IN NATURAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENTS

    The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation of continuous assessment in Arbaminch University specifically in chemistry, Physics and mathematics department. To this end, a descriptive survey design method was employed. In this study the primary source of data are instructors and students of the selected departments. A total of 50 respondents participated in this study. Data collection tools were questionnaires and semi-structured interview. Based on the data analysis the following major findings were obtained. That study revealed that the majority instructors of the department have good understanding of continuous assessment. Most instructors provide tests and one project work for a given course in as semester; lack of student’s participation, large class size and shortage of time were the major challenges that encountered the implementation of continue assessment. Based on these findings it was safely concluded that the implementation of continuous assessment in selected departments has their own limitation and strong sides Finally, it was recommended that refreshment training should be provided for instructors in the area of continuous assessment, the university should work to solve problem of small class size so that all instructor would be able to implement continuous assessment and Maximizing student’s involvement. It is known that quality education and success in education comes from the active involvement of student. Therefore, students must be encouraged to engage cognitively, emotionally, and physically with the content

    Adjustment is a process by which a living organism maintains a balance between the needs and the circumstances. For living a happy and prosperous life emotional intelligence and adjustment is a pre-requisite condition. In every sphere of life, starting from birth till death we need healthy adjustment. The present study was conducted with the purpose to find out the relationship between emotional intelligence and adjustment on Academic Achievement of Pre secondary school students of Dharwad District. The study was conducted on a sample of 100 Boys and Girls students of 9th class studying in Dharwad District. In the present study, descriptive survey method was employed the collected data was analyzed with the help of correlation. The results of the present study showed that higher the emotional intelligence and the adjustment on Academic Achievement of Pre secondary school students of Dharwad District

    STATUS OF SCRUB TYPHUS: A REVIEW

    The disease caused by Rickettsiae in human, the most widespread is Scrub typhus. It exists as zoonoses in nature between certain species of trombiculid mites and their small mammals i.e. rats, field mice, shrews. In this humans are the accidental host of the mite-rodent-mite cycle. Scrub typhus has re-emerged in India with ancient outbreaks. It is presently seen in increasing numbers in various south Indian states, north east and of late from north Indian states, and Himalayan foothills –Himachal Pradesh and uttrakhand. The mode of transmission is the bite of infected larval mites and the incubation period is usually 10 to 12 days; varies from 6 to 12 days. Scrub typhus resembles epidemic typhus clinically. The onset is acute with chills and fever is about 104° to 105°F, headache, malaise, prostration and a macular rash appearing around the 5th day of illness, generalized lymphadenopathy and lymphocytosis are common. The main abide in tsutsugamushi disease diagnosis remains in serology. The oldest test is that the Weil-Felix OX K agglutination reaction that is cheap, easy to perform and results are come in  one-night. ELISA for the detection of IgM antibodies against Orientia tsutsugamushi offers advantages of being able to test large number of samples at a time and can be automated. Indirect fluorescent antibody assay is the gold standard assay for the serological detection of antibodies in scrub typhus. In children and pregnant women Azithromycin is preferred. Rifampicin is an alternative drug but is not to be given alone to avoid the development of drug resistant

    TEMPORAL AND SEASONAL VARIATION OF ARSENIC IN BALLIA DISTRICT OF EASTERN U. P.

    It was reported a clear temporal and seasonal variability of As concentrations in different water samples of Ballia district of eastern U. P. During post monsoon season As concentration decreases in Samples. A definite relationship exists between the behavior of arsenic and rainfall intensity. With increasing rainfall intensity rate of dilution increases which minimizes the arsenic concentration in the groundwater. During monsoon period there is considerable decrease in the arsenic concentration. Groundwater stream design is influenced by water level surface and subsurface redox potential because of seasonal rainfall. During monsoon seasons groundwater level is increased due to its low-land shallow basin and flooding condition also help in rising its groundwater level. For an extensive stretch of the year, the land remains water-logged and this prompts low groundwater flushing rates. In this manner, the watched varieties in mean As concentrations during storm season contrasted with pre rainstorm season. During monsoon time arsenic goes into groundwater by disintegration of Fe(III)- oxy hydroxides and in pre monsoon time arsenic reversibly adsorb on Fe(III)- oxyhydroxides. So these two processes control arsenic concentration during pre monsoon and post monsoon time

    This paper is an attempt to study the various dimensions of judicial review in India. Judicial review is a process under which executive and legislative actions are subject to review by the judiciary. It is basically an aspect of judicial power of the state which is exercised by the courts to determine the validity of a rule of law or an action of any agency of the state. A court with judicial review power may invalidate laws and decisions that are incompatible with a higher authority; an executive decision may be invalidated for being unlawful or a statute may be invalidated for violating the terms of a written constitution. Judicial review is one of the checks and balances in the separation of powers; the power of the judiciary to supervise the legislative and executive branches when the latter exceed their authority

    This paper is an attempt to study the evolution and development of concept of judicial review in India. Judicial review is basically an aspect of judicial power of the state which is exercised by the courts to determine the validity of a rule of law or an action of any agency of the state. It originated in English legal system and became a very important principle in the systems of government based on Rule of Law. The Constitution of U.S.A. makes no specific reference to the judicial review of legislation. However, Chief Justice Lord Coke’s decision in Bonham’s laid down the foundation of Judicial Review of legislation in the United States of America, which has now become one of the most outstanding features for the operation of that Constitution. In India, judicial review is not an event of sudden emergence but its gradual evolution depended on the constitutional ideas in different stages of Indian constitutional history. Constitution of India, 1950 explicitly establishes the Doctrine of Judicial Review under various Articles of the Constitution

    HOME ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS INFLUENCE ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN OWERRI ZONE II, IMO STATE, NIGERIA

    The basic goal of this research was to determine some home environmental factors influencing the academic performance of secondary school students in Owerri Zone II, Imo State, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted and two research questions guided the study. The population for the study comprises 1030 respondents made up of all the 64 principals and 966 teachers in the 32 public secondary schools in Owerri Zone II, Imo state. A sample of 206 respondents was selected randomly and this represents 20% of the respondents’ population. The sample consists of 32 principals and 174 teachers in the study area. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire designed by the researchers. Face and content validity of the instrument was obtained after the appraisal and input made by two experts; One in Measurement and Evaluation, and another in Educational Management and Policy, Faculty of Education Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. Corrections were made based on their observations before the instrument was approved for use. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.89 using Charles spearman’s rank correlation coefficient (Spearman's ρ). The analysis of the data revealed that some families lack modern mechanical or electronic devices, educational materials and supervision at home to enhance a student's academic performance. More so, some parents are unwilling to be involved in the academic performance of their children due to their socio- economic status. Recommendations such as giving proper orientation to the parents no matter their educational development and background, should devout time with their children and check their children’s academic work, direct them where necessary, discuss the academic problems of their children with their teachers or school guidance, counselors so as to detect the students problem early enough and tackle it before it affects the students

    ASSESSMENT OF MIXING PROPERTIES OF LIQUID Cu-Sb ALLOY AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES

    The addition of copper (Cu) can decrease the toxicity of the most usable element antimony (Sb). Concentration-dependent thermodynamic, microscopic structural and transport properties of Cu-Sb melt at different temperatures were examined using the quasi-lattice theory of mixing. Moelwyn-Hughes’s approach was implemented for the computation of viscosity. Liquid Cu-Sb shows the segregating nature in the Sb rich region and the ordering nature in the Cu rich region at the temperature range of 1190-1490 K. The viscosity of the respective alloy decreases with an increase in temperature

    BIOSYNTHESIS AND ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECT OF SILVER NANOPARTICLE LOADED ON Glycyrrihza glabra

    This study was designed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of green synthetic nanoparticles of Glycyrrihza glabra aqueous extract loaded with silver nitrate. Green nanoparticles were synthesized by mixing the plant aqueous extract with different silver nitrate (AgNO3) concentrations (1 mM, 1.5 mM, 1.75 mM, and 2 Mm) then detected by visual observation and UV visible spectroscopy through monitoring the color changing from yellowish to brown within 10 min and to dark brown after 1 h, which gave indication for the creation of silver nanoparticles. A characteristic and definite SPR (surface Plasmon resonance) band for green nanoparticles was obtained at around 433 nm. The results indicated that SPR peak of green nanoparticles maximum peak intensity was obtained at 1.5 mM of AgNO3. Atomic Force Microscopy analysis was used to characterize the shape of green nanoparticles which declared that the green synthetic nanoparticles had different average size depend on sliver concentrations (12.84,39.32, 28.82, 9.90 nm) for (1 mM, 1.5 mM, 1.75 mM and 2 mM) AgNO3 concentrations respectively. Also the result of AFM height analysis of green synthetic nanoparticle indicated that the height were AgNO3 concentrations dependent in which (56.861, 13.636, 13.521 and 15.366 nm) for (1, 1.5, 1.75 and 2 nm) respectively. The antibacterial activity of green synthetic sliver nanoparticles was studied against one type of Gram negative (E. coli) and Gram positive (stapylococcus auerus) and the result showed that different nanoparticles concentrations (1, 1.5, 1.75, 2 mM) have the ability to inhibit the bacterial isolate with varying zones of (17, 20, 12,17mm) for Staphylococcus. auerus and (10,22,10,22 mm) for E. coli at (1, 1.5, 1.75, 2 mM) respectively
