Urogenital schistosomiasis has consistently provoked attention due to its consequences on the infected population. The prevalence and infection status in endemic rural areas needs constant updating. Therefore, this study investigated the current prevalence of urogenital schistosomiasis among school pupils in a schistosomiasis endemic community. Urine samples were microscopically examined for eggs of Schistosoma haematobium while reagent strips were used to determined hematuria. Over all population prevalence was 14.18% (n=19). Prevalence was age and sex dependent. Prevalence of infection was significantly (P<0.05) higher in pupils within the age group of 10-14 years with 10.45%(14) while those within 5-9 years old had a prevalence of 3.73%. Male pupils were more (P<0.05) infected (8.9%, n=12) than females (5.22%, n=7). Cases of hematuria were not significantly different (P>0.05) between sexes though males had 2.23% while females had 1.49%. Prevalence of schistosomiasis in Amagunze increased when compared to previous reports. Renewed education and treatment are needed to control and eliminate the infection

The main objective of this study is to present a new approach for comparing the archipelago region according to its innovation re-branding level. Over the years, various organizations have published reports on the level of re-branding innovation for the Indonesian state and the archipelago region. Typically, taxonomic or narrative re-branding methods are used to measure developments in this area. The main disadvantage of this re-branding approach is that it offers a philosophical assessment of the re-branding level of the State innovation based on a philosophy only on average, whereas the main purpose of re-branding of such an analysis should be philosophical to include an assessment of the compatibility of results obtained in different fields is a composite measure. For this purpose, a different procedure based on the proposed multi-analysis is a narrative method

Industrialization and urbanization have brought about the contamination of river bodies, resulting in fish and other aquatic contamination. This study investigates the concentration of heavy metal residue such as  in water, flesh, gills and liver of Tilapia guineensis (tilapia fish) and Clarias gariepinus (catfish) collected from the Eleyele river.  Fifteen (15) water samples and three (3) fish samples of each specie were collected from five (5) different points along the Eleyele river, including: Oluseyi, Agbaje, Dam, Oba-Ido, and the ‘Save and Serve’ area. Three treated water samples were also collected from the Eleyele Water Corporation to serve as a control.  The residue concentrations of heavy metals in the samples were analysed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The concentrations of  ranged from ,  ranged from     ranged from   ranged from   ranged from 0.06±0.07 to 1.08±0.14. Significant differences in metal concentrations were identified across the various water sampling stations (p0.05) using analysis of variance. The highest  and least  values of metal residue concentrations obtained in the two fish species were 2.91±0.11   and 1.07±0.13  respectively. The results of metal concentrations in the gills and liver of catfish were in order of , while those of tilapia gills and liver were in the order of  and  respectively. The results of water samples, fish flesh and tissues exceeded the recommended values of standard organizations used as references. The minor differences in the results could be attributed to factors influencing metal uptake, such as age, feeding habits, geographic distributions, and species-specific factors. As a result, consumption of aquatic animals can cause acute and chronic diseases in humans and the animals that consume them

DETERMINANTS OF MAIZE (Zea mays) SUPPLY TO THE MARKET in NORTHWESTERN ETHIOPIA

    Get PDF
Maize supply to the market enhances the economic growth of many smallholder farmers in Ethiopia. Despite this, farmers still produce mainly for consumption, and small amounts of maize are supplied to the market due to different factors. Therefore, this study examined the determinants of maize supply to the market in Northwestern Ethiopia. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis were employed to analyze determinants of maize supply. The data were collected from 198 randomly selected sample maize farmers using structured questionnaire interviews. The descriptive statistics result revealed that the mean quantity supply of maize to the market was 1,369quintals. The model result showed that education, previous year price, access to market information, land allocated for maize, extension service, credit access, and maize yield were important factors significantly affecting the market supply of maize positively. However, family size and distance to the nearest market affected the market supply of maize negatively. Therefore, the study recommends the need to strengthen and promote maize yield (by using improved technology and best agronomic practice), market-oriented extension delivery (through farmers’ training),   improve market access (through expanding market facilities), and market infrastructure (through road construction) to improve maize supply to the market

In this note, we verify the existence of solutions to nonlocal initial value problems for Hilfer-type fractional hybrid differential equations with impulsive condition. Then, we use prerequisites of Hilfer fractional calculus and the standard fixed point theorem due to Dhage for deriving the existence results in the weighted space of continuous functions. An example is presented to illustrate the theory results

INFANT MORTALITY AND ITS RISK FACTORS IN ETHIOPIA

    Get PDF
Introduction: Information on infant mortality is an important indicator of a country’s socioeconomic development; quality of life, help to estimate infant’s risk level and support the development of strategies to reduce this risk such as promoting birth spacing. Objective: The main objective of this study was to identify and explain the effects of the demographic and socio economic determinant factors of infant mortality in Ethiopia Methods: 2016 Ethiopian Demographic & Health Survey data was used. The data was analyzed with multilevel logistic regression model and maximum likelihood estimation for parameters. Results: We noticed the data has nested structure; there exists regional disparity in infant mortality. The result of this study revealed that out of the 31,037 infants considered in the analysis, 45.5/1000 was died, while the remaining was alive. The multilevel logistic regression model result showed that region, place of residence, mother education level, source of drinking water, wealth index of household, mothers exposure to media, birth order, breast feeding, age of mothers at first birth and birth interval were found to be the significant risk factors of infant mortality. Conclusion: From the multilevel logistic regression model, all the three modelsmay be significant, indicating that there is real multilevel variation among infant death in Ethiopia. From the three multilevel model compared, random intercept model gives better result than the null and random slope model upon analyzing data that have nested structure or hierarchical in nature. The intra correlation coefficient is also suggests that there is clear variation of infant death across the region of Ethiopia. The deviance based chi square value is significant for multilevel random intercept model implies that in comparison to the model with multilevel random intercept and fixed slope model the multilevel random intercept model has a better fit the data
