Wind Erosion Research
Wind Erosion Research (WER) provides science-based wind erosion technology for environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable agriculture in the United States. This website introduces the Wind Erosion Equation (WEQ), the first model for estimating soil loss by wind from agricultural fields and the newly developed Wind Erosion Prediction System (WEPS) which provides new capabilities assessing plant damage and calculating suspension loss. Simulation models, multimedia archive and history of wind erosion research are available for educators and students. Educational levels: High school, Undergraduate lower division, Undergraduate upper division, Graduate or professional
Teaching Tip on 'Volcanoes in the Solar System Pictorial Tour'
I think that what kept me interested and following this page as best as I could, was following the page numbers. Looking at the page numbers allowed me to stay focused on one page at a time, and I would record what information I learned page by page, with each link I visited that was connected to that page. I would also enlarge the pictures to see them more clearly because they are very detailed and interesting. Lastly, I would suggest always looking at the advanced information instead of just the beginner's because the information is not too overwhelming, and it may be exactly what the viewer is looking for.
Teaching Tip on 'Fundamentals of Physical Geography'
I can only suggest this site be used as reference along with the regular class room text. I did notice differences between the text I use and some facts on the site. It made me go back through and reference. As with everything else on the web, don't take everything as blind fact. Sometime students have trouble accessing the page based on their browser type. All in all, an excellent resource tool. I've used the study guide and exam questions as an in class quiz show. Even college students enjoy it!
Teaching Tip on 'Windows to the Universe'
As a teacher, I would take advantage of the teaching tips and links. I liked that the resource was useful for many age groups. The graphics are motivational.
Teaching Tip on 'K-4 Earth Science Modules'
This resource contains many ideas for lessons in the K-5 range. The lessons use an inquiry-based method and are scientifically sound.
Teaching Tip on 'Interpreting Geologic Sections'
Read the information on each page carefully! The information given on each page is very useful and important!
Teaching Tip on 'Relative Humidity in the Winter and Summer'
Here is an example of how the applet was integrated into an introductory class on weather and climate.
