    This poster series highlights six astronomical images observed with NASA’s Great Observatories (Hubble, Chandra and Spitzer) and found within the "From Earth to the Universe" (FETTU) exhibition. Each poster contains additional information on the historical context of the astronomical objects (constellation, view with the unaided eye), as well as basic facts about the specific object, the category of object, the NASA missions used, and the contributions to advancing knowledge of the universe enabled by the NASA observations. The materials expand on the theme of demonstrating how far understanding and knowledge have come since Galileo’s telescope 400 years ago with illustrations of specific NASA contributions, and provide background information on which informal educators can draw for NASA-related activities in their programming. The site contains everything from classic photos to educational programming and HD video, and is growing all the time as its creators continue to gain both new and archived media from all of NASA's centers. The text describes the image and provides a brief explanation of why astronomer Halton Arp compiled his catalogue of odd-looking galaxies in the 1960s. The accompanying classroom activity In Search of … Peculiar Galaxies is a curriculum support tool designed for use as an introductory inquiry activity. During the classroom activity, students use the images and text on this lithograph to generate questions about galaxy interactions. They will conduct research to answer their questions, and determine how Arp’s collection of peculiar galaxies compiled in the 1960’s contributed to today’s understanding of galaxy interactions.     This site was simply amazing. Fully equipped with an extensive amount of flash features, this site let me discover which minerals are found in items they probably encounter every day. Rolling the cursor over items in an illustrated room accesses pop-ups that describe what mineral products may be found in them. This would be a great interactive supplement for any unit on minerals.
