A Tour of the Cryosphere 2009
This 5-minute animation portrays fluctuations in the cryosphere through observations collected from a variety of satellite-based sensors. The cryosphere consists of those parts of the Earth's surface where water is found in solid form, including areas of snow, sea ice, glaciers, permafrost, ice sheets, and icebergs. In these regions, surface temperatures remain below freezing for a portion of each year. Black Holes: From Here to Infinity is a 6-page illustrated brochure that answers the eight most frequently asked questions about black holes. It was developed by the Education and Public Outreach group at Sonoma State University, with funding from the EXIST mission concept study and the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) mission. It is available in both English and Spanish and is part of the “Black Holes” suite of materials that accompany the PBS NOVA show “Monster of the Milky Way” and the planetarium show “Black Holes: the Other Side of Infinity.” Educational levels: Informal education, General public
Comment on Dynamic Planet: All Shook Up
This resource about the 1989 earthquake near Oakland and San Francisco, CA uses the 1989 World Series to create the opening setting. Unfortunately, the resource says the World Series is between the Los Angles Dodgers and the New York Giants (of which neither location experienced the earthquake). The correct baseball information is a World Series between the Oakland Athletics and the New York Giants. Then the setting of the resource makes sense and it is where the earthquake occurred. The resource creator was contacted with this correction.

Cool Cosmos: the Multiwavelength Astronomy Gallery
This website has gathered images taken at different wavelengths by a variety of ground-based and space-borne observatories, including selected astronomical objects in the famous Messier catalog, as well as for some non-Messier objects. An online gallery introduces the wealth of data available at wavelengths beyond the familiar visible light. Users will discover some important characteristics of astronomical phenomena, and learn about which types of radiation are best suited for studying certain objects. Educational levels: High school
Tour of the Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) Videos
These videos introduce middle- and high school-age learners to the electromagnetic spectrum. The product consists of 8 animations including an introduction to electromagnetic waves and one animation for each wavelength of the EM spectrum (Radio, Microwave, Infrared, Visible, Ultraviolet, X-Rays and Gamma Rays). Each wavelength of the EM spectrum offers a construct to illustrate and teach about NASA sensors, missions, and science. Emphasis is placed on relevant science, such as lunar exploration, and hot science topics, such as climate change. The examples and narrative for each wavelength animation build on the learners’ prior knowledge then introduces examples from NASA missions. These examples explore the use of spectral analysis and visualizations that help scientists make discoveries about the world around us using EM waves. Educational levels: Informal education
Field Trip to the Moon DVD - LRO/LCROSS Edition
This special edition DVD--introducing NASA's LRO/LCROSS mission--captures the experience in a feature video created using NASA engineering models and scientific data. Viewers will experience what is like to travel through space to land on the Moon. Along the way, they'll discover some of the differences between the Earth and the Moon and what makes our planet unique and habitable. The DVD includes support media including segments on the LRO/LCROSS Mission, the Moon's formation, Apollo landing sites, future lunar landing animation, and Moon trivia questions. The program is also offered at the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium as a full-dome experience with a live presenter during the school year for school groups and visitors to take a virtual field trip to the Moon. Visions of the Universe: Four Centuries of Discovery
This exhibit uses text and images to portray human views of the universe, and how they have evolved over time. In recognition of the International Year of Astronomy, the exhibit includes six two-sided panels that feature key astronomical discoveries from the past 400 years. The exhibit also highlights the technological advancements that made these discoveries possible. For example, in turning his telescope to the heavens in 1609, Galileo embarked upon a journey that would revolutionize science and culture alike, profoundly changing our view of our place in the universe. Exhibit topics range from celestial objects within our own “cosmic backyard” to those beyond the realm of our solar system. Featured objects include the Sun, the Moon, Saturn, Mars, comets, stars, nebulae, and galaxies. Images are accompanied by captions that highlight relevant, historical discoveries. The exhibit is supported by supplemental resource documents available online, in PDF format, for each panel. These twelve documents include science background information in the form of Q&As, related science misconceptions, a glossary, and links to additional resources on NASA’s Amazing Space Web site. Wonderful lesson. I adapted by providing planet facts on back of cards. Visitors were to ask questions on each planet.
