Teaching Tip on 'Fundamentals of Physical Geography'
The page on uniformitarianism contains (what I consider) a misprint - Lyell didn't prove Hutton's theory, he contributed strong supportive evidence which in effect disproved catastrophism. This is an important clarification, as for science to "prove" something is, to the best my understanding, impossible. This concept is directly related to the clarifications that I make with my students concerning the acceptance of scientific evidence(not "proof") for a scientific theory, versus "belief" in a theory.
Teaching Tip on 'Virtual Earthquake'
Try and make it more fun and kid-friendly. If it had more to keep my interest I would have gotten more than I did.
Teaching Tip on 'Cracking Dams'
Use this resource multiple times over a period to develop investigation beyond the website.
Information on challenging teaching and learning situations for 'Global Climate Animations'
The resource being annotated is: http://www.dlese.org/dds/catalog_DLESE-000-000-001-774.htm
Teaching Tip on 'Virtual Earthquake'
Use less technical language and put in more bright colors
Teaching Tip on 'Types of Clouds'
The definitions of the different forms of clouds are primarily for the teachers end of it, to familiarize themselves with these clouds before introducing the lesson to the students. This could, however, be used for student access to the many different clouds if they were required to research a particular form for a class project. The definitions were clear and concise.
Teaching Tip on 'Seismic Waves and Eruptions (title provided or enhanced by cataloger)'
I have developed an assignment to accompany the Seismic Eruption software. This can be found at http://www.bedford.k12.ny.us:16080/flhs/science/labs/pteqbound.pdf
Average scores of aggregated indices for 'Global Water Sampling Project'
The resource being annotated is: http://www.dlese.org/dds/catalog_DLESE-000-000-001-641.htm
Teaching Tip on 'Introduction to the Atmosphere'
This resource was interesting and it gave me a better understanding of the atmospheric layers. I think it's simple and to the point, and users are able to understand the facts about atmospheric layers and how our atmosphere works. It's not a lengthy explanation and does not bore the user. I would like to see more animations of topics that the website is trying to explain, such as the wavelengths of solar radiation.
Teaching Tip on 'A Close Look at Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary'
This is an excellent resource. It is rare to find a resource that has all of the elements that this one has. From background information, guiding questions, student material, a glossary, and links, this resource has it all. This shows what can be achieved when professionals work together to help educate students.
