Virginia Standards for Comparing Temperature and Solar Radiation for Common Latitudes
This resource supports earth science standards for grade 7. This assignment is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning ES.1c: The student will plan and conduct investigations in which scales, diagrams, maps, charts, graphs, tables, and profiles are constructed and interpreted. ES.2c: The student will demonstrate scientific reasoning and logic by comparing different scientific explanations for a set of observations about the Earth. ES.13: The student will investigate and understand that energy transfer between the sun and the Earth and its atmosphere drives weather and climate on Earth.
Virginia Standards for Investigating Seasonal Variability in NO2 Concentrations
This resource supports earth science standards for grades 8-10. This assignment is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning ES.1c: The student will plan and conduct investigations in which scales, diagrams, maps, charts, graphs, tables, and profiles are constructed and interpreted. ES.12: The student will investigate and understand the origin and evolution of the atmosphere and the interrelationship of geologic processes, biologic processes, and human activities on its composition and dynamics.
Virginia Standards for Seasonal cloud cover variations
This resource supports Virginia Earth science standards. ES.2a: The student will demonstrate scientific reasoning and logic by analyzing how science explains and predicts the interactions and dynamics of complex Earth systems. ES.2c: The student will demonstrate scientific reasoning and logic by comparing different scientific explanations for a set of observations about the Earth. ES.12: The student will investigate and understand the origin and evolution of the atmosphere and the interrelationship of geologic processes, biologic processes, and human activities on its composition and dynamics. ES.13: The student will investigate and understand that energy transfer between the sun and the Earth and its atmosphere drives weather and climate on Earth.
Virginia Standards for Carbon Monoxide and Population Density
This resource supports Virginia Earth science standards. ES.12: The student will investigate and understand the origin and evolution of the atmosphere and the interrelationship of geologic processes, biologic processes, and human activities on its composition and dynamics.
Virginia Standards for Exploring Photosynthesis with NASA Remote Sensing Data
This resource supports earth science standards for grades 7-12. This assignment is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning ES.1c: The student will plan and conduct investigations in which scales, diagrams, maps, charts, graphs, tables, and profiles are constructed and interpreted. Virginia Standards for The Sun's Energy
This resource supports math and science standards for grades K-2. This assignment is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning Math3.22: The student will read and interpret data represented in line plots, bar graphs, and picture graphs and write a sentence analyzing the data. Sci1.6a: The student will investigate and understand the basic relationships between the sun and the Earth. Key concepts include the understanding that the sun is the source of heat and light that warms the land, air, and water.
Virginia Standards for Using Radiosonde Data From a Weather Balloon Launch
This resource supports earth science standards for grades 7-12. This assignment is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning ES.1c: The student will plan and conduct investigations in which scales, diagrams, maps, charts, graphs, tables, and profiles are constructed and interpreted. ES.13a: The student will investigate and understand that energy transfer between the sun and the Earth and its atmosphere drives weather and climate on Earth. Key concepts include observation and collection of weather data.
Virginia Standards for Identifying Ozone Variations Over Different Locations

Math Standards for Cold, Clouds and Snowflakes
This resource supports math standards for grades 4-7 in the topics of data analysis and probability and number and operations. These assignments are based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards.
Jetstream: An Online Weather School
Jetstream is an online weather school from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service. Materials featured here include a selection of modules on weather on the web, the atmosphere, global weather, synoptic meteorology and other topics. A certificate of completion for each module can be printed by students who successfully complete their work. A topic matrix provides access to the sections for each module, beginning with an introduction and ending with review questions. In addition, an appendix for teachers features a glossary, list of acronyms, downloading instructions, answers to review questions, and overviews of the lesson plans within each module. Educational levels: Middle school, High school, Undergraduate lower division
