BOOSTING MATH SCORES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WITH THE INDEX CARD MATCH METHOD
Increasing student learning outcomes is greatly influenced by motivation in the learning concept. Teachers can achieve this by using appropriate learning methods. The aim of this research is to increase student motivation and learning outcomes in mathematics lessons. One of the efforts made by teachers to increase students' learning motivation in Mathematics subjects is by applying methods Index Card Match. This research used a Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach and involved 26 class II students at SDN Cijagra 04, Paseh District, consisting of 13 female students and 13 male students. The research was conducted in 2 cycles during the 2023-2024 academic year. If the subject's score in the first cycle has not reached the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) score, the research will continue in the second cycle. If all subjects achieve scores according to the KKM in the second cycle, the research is considered complete. After 2 cycles, student learning outcomes increased from 86.69 in cycle 1 to 100 in cycle 2. Data analysis used qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research conclusion shows that there is an increase in students' motivation and mathematics learning outcomes by implementing the Index Card Match method. Students also show enthusiasm, enthusiasm, activity, creativity and courage in expressing opinions. Student motivation towards learning material also increases, and student learning experiences become broader, which ultimately has an impact on improving learning outcomes. It is hoped that the results of this research can help teachers choose appropriate learning methods to achieve learning goals, especially in Mathematics subject
THE BIRD IN THE HAND FALLACY AND AGENCY PROBLEMS: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
Through the conduction of comparative and comprehensive analysis of relevant data, literature review, and empirical evidence, this paper aims to apply to decision making and reasoning, the fallacy occurs when someone overvalues a sure thing, even when the potential benefits of an alternative option are significantly higher and more probable. Conversely, the agency problem, arising from conflicts of interest between managers and shareholders, can influence dividend decisions in ways that prioritize managerial interests over shareholder value maximization. The findings highlight significant influences of both the "bird in the hand" fallacy and the agency problem on dividend policy. However, their implications and the strategies to mitigate their effects vary significantly. The "bird in the hand" fallacy, rooted in a preference for certainty, tends to lead investors to favour immediate dividends over potentially higher future gains from reinvestment which may not materialize. The methodology employed in this study includes a descriptive analysis research design. Literature review is to establish theoretical foundations and empirical analysis is to substantiate these theoretical keystones. By examining historical data, the study aims to provide insights into how these factors shape corporate dividend policies and investor behaviour. Ultimately, the research underscores the importance of balancing short-term dividend pay-outs with long-term growth opportunities. It suggests that effective dividend policy should consider both investor preferences for current income and the potential benefits of reinvestment in enhancing future shareholder value. By understanding these dynamics and implementing appropriate strategies, firms can navigate the complexities of dividend policy to achieve sustainable financial performance and shareholder satisfactio
Medumba language use by non-natives: factor of social integration or singularity
The increasing and diversified internal mobility in the periurban and rural areas of Cameroon leads to a proliferation of cultures and a close contact between native and migratory languages. In such a plurilingual context, the coexistence of languages, practices and varieties with varying status and symbolism can be a source of dynamisation or alteration of the autochthonous languages whose intergenerational transmission is challenged by a defy of originality. This article examines the sociolinguistic impact of Medumba language use by non-natives, thereby addressing the following question: what is the sociolinguistic impact of Medumba language use by non-natives ? The theory of interactionism which examines the interaction between language and society in order to understand the language practices resulting from situations of languages in contact, frames this study. It argues that the permanent contact between languages and the interaction between their speakers have a considerable impact on their structures and uses. The analysis is based on previous work, verbal interactions and oral information collected through direct observation techniques, surveys and semi-structured interviews with informants. It reveals that, Medumba language use by non-native speakers leads to the emergence of a composite language, representing an hybrid variety that incorporates the differents cultural and social realities of the non natives communities. The use of those composite languages represents a communicative strategy implemented by non-natives to preserve their culture thereby ensuring communication with natives for “un meilleur vivre ensemble”
