Robust Median Voter Rules
Generalized median voter (GMV) rules on the single-peaked preference domain are group strategy-proof. We show that if incomplete information coexists with the ability to commit to coalitional agreements, then GMV rules can be susceptible to insincere voting by groups with heterogeneous beliefs. We identify strategic compromise as a novel source of insincere voting in this environment. Our two main results characterize the set of fair, efficient, and robust voting rules: those that ensure sincere voting under asymmetric information and coalition formation. Each result uses a different notion of robustness, and both give (at most) two alternatives special treatment, with the remaining alternatives chosen according to a type of consensus.

Environmental and Sustainability Indicators / Evaluating sustainable energy security in China and Kazakhstan: A comprehensive data-driven approach
This study offers a detailed, data-driven analysis of sustainable energy security (SES) in China and Kazakhstan from 2005 to 2022, utilizing a novel framework based on five critical dimensions: availability, accessibility, affordability, acceptability, and develop-ability. The research integrates extensive socio-economic, energy, and environmental data to assess and compare the sustainable energy security (SES) trajectories of both nations against the backdrop of their unique geopolitical and economic contexts. Our findings reveal that while both countries have made significant strides towards enhancing their SES, they face distinct challenges. China, as a global powerhouse, has made notable advances in integrating sustainable practices within its energy sector, driven by comprehensive policy reforms and technological innovation. Kazakhstan's rich natural resources provide a robust base for energy security but require careful management to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability. This paper concludes with strategic recommendations for both countries to enhance their energy security while aligning with global sustainability goals. The comparative analysis not only underscores the importance of a tailored approach to SES but also contributes to the broader discourse on energy security in the era of renewable transformation.Version of recor
Newton / Tracing the ultrafast buildup and decay of d-d transitions in FePS3
Excitations between localized 3d states of transition metal ions within crystalline solids, commonly known as d-d transitions, play a pivotal role in diverse phenomena across solid-state physics, materials science, and chemistry. Until now, an experimental method to unravel the complex quasiparticle dynamics associated with d-d transitions has remained elusive. In this study, we bridge this gap by demonstrating that d-d transitions can be distinctly traced both in momentum space and in time using time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (trARPES). As a model system, we select FePS3, a two-dimensional van der Waals antiferromagnet with a rich array of quantum phenomena stemming from d-d transitions. Our investigation reveals the ultrafast dynamics of both a spin-allowed (5T2g → 5Eg) and a spin-forbidden (5T2g → 3T1g) d-d transition within the Fe2+ multiplet. We observe that for off-resonant excitation, the spin-allowed excitation exhibits a quicker buildup compared to the spin-forbidden transition, and it decays with a single exponential behavior over a timescale of 83 fs. For the spin-forbidden transition, we identify two independent decay channels with decay constants of 46 and 1,273 fs that we attribute to an exchange-mediated virtual hopping between neighboring Fe2+ ions and an on-site spin-orbit-mediated spin-flip process, respectively.Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft TRR 142/3Europäische Kommission (DE-588)1024466-9 964396 ERC-StG-101042680 2D-SMARTiESVersion of recor
Yearbook of the Society for 18th Century Studies on South Eastern Europe / Growing Taste for Paintings of Secular Subjects in Carniola and Styria in the late 17th and early 18th Century
Influenced by humanistic thought, technical innovations and changes in material culture, from the 16th century onwards, a number of independent subject matters gradually developed in European painting. A growing popularity of landscapes, genre scenes and still lifes among private commissioners caused a transformation of collecting trends first in the art producing centres, and subsequently in Central European regions, including Habsburg Austria. This article sheds light on the growing taste for paintings of secular subjects, by comparing Carniola and Styria in the late 17th and early 18th century, based on an analysis of a dataset of probate inventories, and the study of supply of the artworks and the influence of art dealers and of immigrant Dutch painters settled in Ljubljana, Vienna and Graz, who by the beginning of the 18th century contributed to the prevailing of the secular subjects as collecting items and furnishings of noble residences in the region
Konflikt und Kontinuität. Religiöse Biographien im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert. Festschrift für Angela Berlis / Huian, Georgiana ; Moser, Erika ; Kostrešević, Milan ; Bürgin, Martin / Erzählen biblische Texte Biographien von Frauen? : Schlaglichter auf exegetische Deutungen im 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhundert
As a canonical text, the Bible in its various forms has always been highly relevant for all groups of Judaism and Christianity – even if it has not always been equally important in all times and for all churches. The following contribution will examine exegetical interpretations in German-speaking research of biblical biographies of women in the so-called long 19th century.Version of recor
This paper examines the role of irritations as catalysts for learning and educational processes in anti-racist religious pedagogy. Through an analysis of a student’s learning reflection, the study explores how irritations trigger processes ofthinking and reflection and the challenges they pose. The focus lies on the tensions between critique, reflexivity, and subjectivity. The paper discusses didactic implications and outlines approaches to designing anti-racist learning processes in teacher education and religious education without prematurely closing themthrough dichotomous thinking
