Personality differences in emotionality and their influence on memory
No full textEinleitung. Psychopathie stellt eine schwere Persönlichkeitsstörung dar und umfasst diverse affektive, zwischenmenschliche sowie antisoziale und interpersonelle Merkmale und Verhaltensweisen. Infolgedessen repräsentiert Psychopathie ein mehrdimensionales klinisches Konstrukt, das anhand dieser verschiedenen Facetten beschrieben und gemessen werden kann. Zudem ist bekannt, dass psychopathische Individuen vermehrt Defizite in Emotionsverarbeitungsprozessen aufweisen. Demnach wird auch eine reduzierte Fähigkeit im emotionalen Gedächtnis vermutet und dass diese Defizite facettenspezifisch sind. Der Zweck dieser Studie ist die Überprüfung dieses Zusammenhangs, um ein breiteres Wissen über die emotionalen Prozesse von Menschen mit psychopathischen Merkmalen zu generieren und die Entwicklung von frühzeitigen und präventiven Maßnahmen zu unterstützen. Methode. Insgesamt nahmen an dieser Untersuchung 77 Studenten der Theresianischen Militärakademie von Wiener Neustadt teil. Diese wurden je nach Ausprägung psychopathischer Merkmale in verschiedene Gruppen (niedrig, mittel, hoch) eingeteilt. Zudem erfolgte eine weitere Einteilung der Gruppen anhand der individuellen Ausprägung spezifischer Facetten. Zur Erfassung des emotionalen Gedächtnisses mussten die Probanden Bilder aus den Kategorien neutral, bedrohlich und mitleiderregend betrachten und anschließend wurde die Gedächtnisleistung durch eine Wiedererkennungsaufgabe überprüft. Zusätzlich wurde währenddessen die Herzrate mit Hilfe eines EKGs aufgezeichnet. Ergebnisse. Anhand der Ergebnisse konnte man keine Unterschiede in der Gedächtnisleistung für bedrohliche, mitleiderregende und neutrale Bilder zwischen den Gruppen beobachten. Auch die Analyse einzelner Facetten deutete auf keine relevanten Unterschiede zwischen den Gruppen hin. Außer für die Facette Kaltherzigkeit: Hierbei zeigte sich eine tendenziell bessere Gedächtnisleistung für Personen mit einer höheren Ausprägung im Vergleich zu Personen mit niedriger Ausprägung. Bei der Analyse des Zusammenhangs von Herzrate und Gedächtnisleistung zwischen den Gruppen zeigte sich eine größere Veränderung der Herzrate in der Gruppe mit hoher Ausprägung psychopathischer Merkmale im Vergleich zur Gruppe mit niedriger Ausprägung.Diskussion. Trotz überwiegend unerwarteter Ergebnisse lassen sich interessante Befunde ableiten, die insbesondere auf adaptive und positive Effekte psychopathischer Merkmale hinweisen. Diese Erkenntnisse unterstützen die Annahme, dass Personen möglicherweise Vorteile durch psychopathische Merkmale erfahren können, wenn diese Merkmale kontext- und situationsgerecht angepasst werden.Introduction. Psychopathy is a severe personality disorder and encompasses diverse affective, interpersonal, antisocial, and interpersonal traits and behaviours. As a result, psychopathy represents a multidimensional clinical construct that can be described and measured using these different facets. It is also known that psychopathic individuals exhibit increased deficits in emotion processing. Accordingly, a reduced ability in emotional memory is also assumed, and these deficits are facet-specific. The purpose of this study is to examine this relationship to generate a broader knowledge of the emotional processes of psychopaths and to support the development of preventive measures.Method. A total of 77 students from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt took part in this study. They were divided into different groups (low, medium, and high) according to their psychopathic characteristics. In addition, the groups were further categorised according to the individual characteristics of specific facets. To record emotional memory, the subjects had to look at pictures from the categories neutral, threatening, and distressing, and then their memory performance was tested using a recognition task. In addition, the heart rate was recorded during the test using an ECG.Results. The results showed no differences in memory performance for threatening, compassioning, and neutral pictures between the groups. Analysing individual facets also indicated no relevant differences between the groups. Except for the facet cold-heartedness, where there was a tendency towards better memory performance for participants with a higher score compared to participants with a lower score.Discussion. Despite predominantly unexpected results, interesting findings can be derived that point in particular to the adaptive and positive effects of psychopathic traits. Measures implementation adjusment act 2022 : is this the end of the discussion on reforming the execution of measures?
No full textMit Beschluss des Nationalrates vom 15. Dezember 2022 wurde das lang ersehnte Maßnahmenvollzugsanpassungsgesetz 2022 umgesetzt. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Reform des Maßnahmenvollzugs. Sie klärt über neue Begriffsbestimmungen auf und stellt die neue Gesetzeslage dar. Der erste Teil zeigt den dringenden Reformbedarf durch die Darstellung der Missstände des Maßnahmenvollzugs vor dem Inkrafttreten des Gesetzes auf. In weiterer Folge werden die einzelnen Unterbringungsarten und Maßnahmen dargestellt und im Anschluss verglichen, welche Änderungen sich durch die Reform ergeben haben. Ebenso wird ein Einblick in die Praxis geboten und Stellungnahmen von diversen Interessensvertretungen wiedergegeben. Abschließend wird diskutiert, ob es auch nach dem Maßnahmenvollzugsanpassungsgesetz 2022 weiteren Reformbedarf gibt.The long-awaited Measures Implementation Adjustment Act 2022 was implemented by resolution of the National Council on 15 December 2022. This paper deals with the reform of the enforcement of measures. It clarifies new definitions and presents the new legal situation. The first part shows the urgent need for reform by presenting the shortcomings of the execution of measures before the law came into force. This is followed by a description of the individual types of detention and measures and a comparison of the changes that have resulted from the reform. An insight into practice is also offered and statements from various interest groups are presented. No full textIm neuen Verbrauchergewährleistungsrecht wird erstmals gesetzlich geregelt, dass ein zur Nacherfüllung berechtigter Käufer auch verlangen kann, dass der Verkäufer die Kosten für die Entfernung der mangelhaften Ware sowie für die neuerliche Montage oder Installation der verbesserten Ware oder Ersatzware nach § 13 Abs 3 VGG trägt. Damit positiviert der Gesetzgeber im Grundsatz das umstrittene Urteil Weber/Putz. Die Formulierung weicht aber in mehreren Punkten vom Urteil ab und wirft neue Fragen auf. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht der folgende Beitrag diese neue Regelung. Er diskutiert und untersucht verschiedene Lösungsansätze und stellt einen eigenen Ansatz zur Problemlösung vor.The new consumer warranty law, implementing the Directive 2019/771, stipulates for the first time that a buyer entitled to repair or replacement can also demand that the seller bears the costs of removal and installation. In doing so, the legislator has in principle affirmed the controversial judgment of the ECJ Weber/Putz. However, the wording deviates from the judgement in several respects and raises new questions. Against this background, the following article analyses this new provision. It discusses and analyses various possible solutions and presents its own approach to adressing the problem

No full textIn a society that associates power with beauty and beauty with youth, it is no wonder that the process of ageing is anxiety-inducing for most of us. It is especially so for women, whose physical appearance is much more often scrutinized in public spaces (Kannen 2021). Women are increasingly afraid of ageing, although this apprehension is not related to a loss of autonomy, but rather to the social stigma surrounding a perceived loss of attractiveness. Building on that commonly shared fear, Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow managed to impose herself as an authority on “ageing gracefully” by maintaining her status as a beauty icon throughout the years. She is therefore invited on numerous platforms to discuss ageing, which she uses to promote her 250 million dollars alternative health and wellness brand “"GOOP”. By appropriating discourses from feminist and “cosmic wellness” movements, GOOP brands itself as a space by and for women to combat ageing together. This presentation seeks to demonstrate that behind this veneer, GOOP’s discourse contributes to the stigmatizing of ageing for women, and it reinforces neoliberal technologies of the body that aims at self-optimization through dieting and consumption of luxury cosmetics. In doing so, I hope to clear up the space necessary to hold a conversation about real alternative models of ageing, which branch outside of the current hegemonic notion of ageing as decline (Woodward 1999; Cole 2008)

No full textThe two poems united here seemingly have very different subjects. However, at a second glance, connections emerge. The first depicts an abusive relationship, in which the speaker feels diminished and controlled. The designation ‘disabled’, symbolized by the walking stick of the title, is portrayed to be an instrument of abuse within the context of the relationship. The second poem depicts the changing fates of a building in Guayaquil: first, an administrative building for the Spanish colonizers, then, a bank for the elites continuing the legacy of colonialization and subjugation, and, finally, a library. Like in the first poem, there is a narrative arc from subjugation and subordination to emancipation and self-assertion. By placing the poems next to each other, personal abuse and the socio-historical reality of colonialism are linked
Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting / The crypto world trades at tea time: intraday evidence from centralized exchanges across the globe
No full textIt is a stylized fact that trading activity, volatility and liquidity in equity and other financial markets follow specific intraday patterns. These patterns are to a large extent determined by institutional features such as exchange trading hours or batch settlement procedures. We analyze the intraday patterns that emerge when these institutional constraints are absent. We compile a large sample of 1940 currency pairs traded on 38 cryptocurrency exchanges located on five continents. These exchanges operate 24 h a day, seven days a week, and settle trades instantly. We find that there are pronounced time-of-day patterns in trading activity, volatility and liquidity. These patterns are remarkably similar across exchanges, time zones and cryptocurrency pairs. Specifically, trading activity, volatility and illiquidity all peak between 16:00 and 17:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), i.e. during U.K. tea time. We find that characteristics of the exchanges (such as their locations) and of the traded currency pairs (e.g. whether two pairs share a common currency) explain some, but not all of the commonality in intraday patterns.Version of recor
