Impact of an integrated approach in disaster management
In recent times, there have been several natural disasters, negatively affecting communities ranging from loss of lives, businesses, homes and economic disruption. Such serious effects on a community can be traced to poor disaster management arrangements. Several project management concepts as well as technologies have been researched and proven to improve disaster management. This article reviews existing literatures to make evident the concepts of project management such as project planning, execution, team collaboration and governance as well as technologies with a focus on the Internet of Things (IoT) through provision of early warning signs for mitigation and preparedness, big data analytics (BDA) for information gathering and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for emergency relief scenarios in disaster management. Findings of this article reveals the great impact and benefit of an integrated approach for effective disaster management. Hence, this paper recommends an integrated approach to disaster management from a project management and Internet of Things perspective

Lacanian Ethics, the Psychoanalytic Group, and the Question of Queer Sociality
This article is an attempt to frontally pose a question queer theory gravitates around, yet never effectively spells
out: what is a togetherness of those who have nothing in common but their desire to undo group ties? First, I
consider the take-up of Lacan’s ethical experiment in Seminar VII, the Ethics of Psychoanalysis by queer
theorists. I contend that queer theory has not given Lacan’s interpretation of Antigone its full import, which
demands its placement in the philosophical tradition of the West brought to its highest fruition in Kant. I further
contend, however, that to do so does not quite offer a solution to the queer problem, for, as contemporary
debate on the political import of Antigone shows, the purity of her desire does not immediately translate into
a sustainable politics. Lacan himself was faced with the problem of translating his ethics into a politics after his
“excommunication” from the psychoanalytic establishment, and came to falter before it. Nevertheless, Lacan’s
efforts allow us to pose the undoubtedly queer question of how to group together those whose only attribute is
to undo group ties. Responding to the unanswerable demands of a theory and a practice that allows us to
answer that question, I propose the figure of the smoker’s communism, as elaborated upon by Mladen Dolar,
as a preliminary queer suggestion as to how we might go about mitigating the gap between Lacan’s ethical
brilliance and his admitted political failure
Saying ‘we’: George Oppen’s and Kant’s lyrical ‘common sense’
Saying ‘we’, using the first-person plural, might speak for a community. But it also raises the problem of speaking as that community, determining it. In this paper, I address the poetics of this problem of indeterminacy through reading George Oppen. Oppen’s negotiations with the social are focused on his increasing use of ‘we’ in place of a lyrical ‘I-you’ address. In reading this ‘we’ with Kant’s ‘common sense’ – the aesthetic construction of consensus – I suggest that Oppen gives form to the indeterminacy of this common. In this, Oppen both re-imagines Kant’s ‘common sense’ and troubles it. Kant’s imagined community is shown to have limits in its own multiplicity. Reading Oppen’s poetic use of ‘we’ against Kant’s ‘common sense’, then, I explore the way each addresses a ‘common’ which exceeds their capacity to determine it. Finally, this leads me to consider the implications of these ‘commons’ for critical reading. If criticism is grounded on its own ‘common sense’, its form of sociability with its poetic object, then the inclusions and exclusions, the peculiar exterior-interiority of Oppen’s and Kant’s sociability, re-describe the limits of that critical reading, and should cause us to rethink its political implications
Intelligent risk prediction of storage tank leakage using an Ishikawa diagram with probability and impact analysis
A combined AHP-PROMETHEE approach for intelligent risk prediction of leak in a storage tank
This paper describes the use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) method for predicting the risk of leakage in a storage tank. This is the first time AHP and PROMETHEE have been used in this way. Important decisions about day to day operations are continually made in a petroleum environment. Storage tanks in refineries contain large volumes of flammable and hazardous liquids. Decision processes need to evaluate and select alternatives with a higher probability of resulting in a hazard, among many different alternatives. The new model described in this paper will aid decision-makers to predict which tank is likely to develop a leak and determine what criteria (source of risk) could result in a leak. Although the case study deals with a specific risk prediction problem, the combination of AHP and PROMETHEE methods can be applied to other decision problems
Intelligent energy management of compressed air systems
This work considers the use of real time sensing and AI (machine learning) to increase Compressed Air Systems (CAS) efficiency. Algorithms that automate the detection of energy inefficiencies and make decisions regarding suitable troubleshooting procedure will be created. Systems using compressed air are often inefficient and expensive to operate. Less than one unit of energy is turned into useful compressed air for every ten provided. Intelligent systems will be used to reduce energy consumption in compressors by considering real-time circumstances and the predicted needs. Sensor data will deliver information about the real time performance. AI will interpret the data and then act automatically. New intelligent techniques will be applied to save energy. This paper presents a review of the recent literature covering the topic of CAS energy efficiency. Some gaps in research were identified in the area of developing technologies and methods to detect and treat energy inefficiencies in CAS
Initial results from using an intelligent system to analyse powered wheelchair users’ data
Research in this paper presents a technique to collect powered wheelchair users' data using an intelligent system. Python programming language is used to create a program that will collect data for future analysis. The collected data considers driving session details, medication administered that can affect driving ability, and the type of input devices used to control a powered wheelchair. Data is collected on a Raspberry Pi microcomputer and is sent after each session via email. Data is placed in the body of the emails and in an attached file. Data will be used for future analysis and will be considered as a training data set to train an intelligent system to predict future route patterns for different wheelchair users. In addition, data will be used to analyze the ability of a user to operate their wheelchair, and monitor users' progress from one session to another, compare the progress of different users with the same type of disability and identify the most suitable input device for each user and route
