(Re)defining Reputation
‘The Impact of Major Programme Failure on Corporate Reputation’ explores the reputational damage limitation which comes into play when
a major programme fails to achieve its intended outcome on time and within budget. This research investigates the extent to which public bodies and corporations anticipate the likely onset of programme set-backs and failures and the damage limitation methods employed. Dr Janet Smart and Dr Kasim Randeree of the BT Centre for Major Programme Management at the Saïd Business School will also question how the clients and customers of a corporate body involved in a failing programme take action to protect themselves from reputational damage. This research aims to provide an understanding of the reputation management attitudes and practices and seeks to highlight how anticipating possible project failure can affect legal and commercial attitudes and practices
Managing Product Performance through Design Engineering: Condition Monitoring in Automated Organisations
Managing Projects Successfully: Causes of Failure in IT Projects and How to Overcome Them
The assumption that IT projects fail due to technical reasons is a misconception. Most failures are due to non-technical causes, such as inadequate organisational environment or poor planning (Janssen and Cresswell, 2005). One of the major reasons is lack of proper understanding of the requirements of the project by its stakeholders. Understanding and articulation of clear goals and objectives along with a strong emphasis on good management support and proper resource allocation form important success factors for IT projects, particularly in small to medium sized enterprises (Murphy and Ledwith, 2007).
This paper analyses an e-services project in the public sector with emphasis on potential problems contributing to failure. Factors included incomplete project management activities, missing stakeholder plan, lack of clarity and agreement in objectives and the absence of a change management system to control scope changes. was the responsibility of the IT department in the organisation who were tasked with the successful implementation of the project to meet the strategic objectives of the organisation.
The paper has a practical focus, analysing problems and suggesting solutions which can be used for similar future projects. Recommendations include the use of project management techniques such as Earned Value Management and implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that can help track the status of the project and enable Project Managers to identify places that require intervention

P2X Receptors: Epithelial Ion Channels and Regulators of Salt and Water Transport
When the results from electrophysiological studies of renal epithelial cells are combined with data from in vivo tubule microperfusion experiments and immunohistochemical surveys of the nephron, the accumulated evidence suggests that ATP-gated ion channels, P2X receptors, play a specialized role in the regulation of ion and water movement across the renal tubule and are integral to electrolyte and fluid homeostasis. In this short review, we discuss the concept of P2X receptors as regulators of salt and water salvage pathways, as well as acknowledging their accepted role as ATP-gated ion channels
Effective Leadership by the Acquisition of Knowledge through Technology: Evaluation of Strategic Performance Management Systems in Government Organizations
Through the use of effective performance management systems, an organization can develop performance related strategies and generate accurate and timely reports relating to a plethora of organizational management activities. Furthermore, organizational leaders and senior managers become equipped to make decisions based on proper measures, with the aim of boosting organizational efficiency and productivity. Moreover, understanding different performance indicators and how management can utilize them in the decision-making process is of tremendous value. This paper focuses on corporate performance management for governmental organizations dealing with service and operations. The main aim of this research was to evaluate existing performance management systems and identify major issues and challenges affecting their implementation. The work suggests a mechanism of building and implementing a strategic performance management framework through analyzing the current performance management systems of government departments in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Furthermore, a detailed procedure for evaluating critical success factors of establishing a performance management system in organizations was developed. The outcome of the research has enabled the identification of the most appropriate systems and indicators for utilization within all government divisions
