FLEXIBILITY OF DEVELOPMENTAL GOALS AS AN ADAPTIVE MECHANISM IN YOUTH LEAVING THE PROTECTION SYSTEM

    Get PDF
The research started from the observation that only the simple allocation of resources - material and financial - does not explain the development of adolescents and young people, as is the case with placement centers where, in apparently equal conditions, there are highly different results. The study aims to contribute to the understanding of the perception of this category of beneficiaries of the child protection system regarding the situation in which they are, the plans and directions of future development concerning the resources held, and the identification of some resilient mechanisms of interaction between the individual and the social context. The data were collected through three focus groups held in residential care in Iași county (Romania) and three semi-structured interviews that included adolescents and young people who were in residential care (N1 = 20) and who left the system of child protection (N2 = 13). The results revealed that the purposes of these young people do not differ from those of their colleagues who are not in residential care (school, career, family). However, their translation into practice is problematic and, as a result, with increasing age and leaving the protection system, there is an adaptation of the concrete objectives to the available resources (employment, work abroad). Goals alone are insufficient to support development, but resources (social, material, individual qualities) and social opportunities are needed

    Get PDF
The below article is a short summary of an observation conducted on students of UMCS, Lublin directly after the break of the war in Ukraine. The article shortly describes the concept of political correctness, how its meaning altered along the years, boundaries and vocabulary that should be used as well as the one that should be avoided. The observation was conducted on eight groups of students from various faculties. The examples provided are only some instances among many that occurred during the semester and were carefully chosen on the one hand to maintain the anonymity of the students and on the other hand to show the most significant elements from that period. The theme of the war in Ukraine is just a starter for the discussion on the topics that teachers should or can use in the classroom, and what the consequences may be for participants. The article gives a list of topics that can be used for further consideration on whether to include them in the curriculum or not

    Get PDF
Faced with the growing challenges of higher education in Colombia, it is necessary to recognize the profile of foreign language teachers in degree programs and their training needs in order to contribute to the training of new professionals according to the training objectives set by the institutions. This doctoral thesis is the result of several years of research on teacher training in foreign language teaching. The study focused on investigating the coherence between the profile of teacher trainers and the teacher training profile proposed by the degree programs in foreign languages in Colombia in the light of the curricular reforms that the degree programs in foreign languages have undergone according to the guidelines of resolution 18583 of 2017 issued by the Ministry of Education in Colombia. The research carries out an analysis of the academic offerings of the Bachelor\u27s degree programs in foreign languages, the proposed profiles and the profile of the teacher trainer of the same programs, making a relationship between the competences aligned with the substantive functions of higher education. This research is of a mixed type with an exploratory-descriptive study approach with a random sample of 160 teachers belonging to 20 bachelor’s degree programs in the country, it was identified that there is no direct correlation between the profile of the teacher trainer and the profile of the graduate proposed by the institution, which leads to carry out analyses and initiate permanent training plans, especially in the training of competences related to the substantive function of research and social projection. So far, higher education institutions have focused their efforts mainly on strengthening undergraduate programs while neglecting the continuing in-service teachers training

ENGAGING STUDENTS THROUGH SELF-ASSESSMENT IN PRACTICAL CLASSES

    Get PDF
The project focus was on the implementation of self-assessment in undergraduate chemistry labs to improve student comprehension of practical laboratory skills. During 2nd year undergraduate practical organic lab sessions, students were asked to engage in critical self-assessment and reflection of their practical activities. Currently, assessment of practical laboratory skills does not always align with the quality of a student\u27s practical work. Self-assessment can aid in promoting student confidence and engagement by allowing them to evaluate their own practical skills. The project investigated the level of student comprehension of practical laboratory skills through the use of self-assessment, focusing on evaluating practical skills rather than experimental outcomes. The study also explored the impact of gender and socioeconomic indicators on student self-assessment. A sample of 123 students was involved in the study

IMPROVEMENTS FOR STABILIZING THE COLLABORATIVE E-LEARNING SYSTEM ON UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENTS

The target of our collaborative e-learning system consists of schools in the rural villages of developing countries. We have continued study the Kaski district of Nepal as our research field since 2012. In this area, there are not only problems such as a lack of learning resources and instructors, but also issues related to power failure and network outages due to the high altitude and the irregular weather. For such an unstable environment, we have developed a cluster-based e-learning system that can be used independently for each school, despite network disconnections. Since 2016, we have used this system; however, following COVID-19, it became difficult to maintain the system due to lockdown restrictions. Consequently, many devices in our system broke due to aging; therefore, we must improve the system. We changed our mind and found that this as an opportunity, re-construct our system for better stability. In this paper, we propose our new system to achieve stability by providing redundancy on the cloud, and by implementing a new function that enables a new node to join the system automatically

The article analyses theoretically the perspective of social work in the penal system. The penal system creates the conditions and opportunities for a successful reintegration of convicts into society. This system is being intensively developed and social work is becoming more and more important in order to help change the behaviour, attitudes and skills of prisoners so that they can successfully reintegrate into society after serving their sentences. This article discusses the place and role of social work in the penal system. The research aimed to find out what skills a social worker needs to have when working with prisoners in order to be able to help them successfully prepare for their reintegration back into society after imprisonment

AN EXPERIMENTAL SETUP FOR INSOLATION FAULT DETECTION OF XLPE CABLES

    Get PDF
Insulation coordination is one of the most critical issues in high-voltage electrical installations. The smallest defect in the insulation will cause major problems in the near future. Timely insulation failure diagnosis can prevent life-threatening occupational accidents. Insulation fault diagnostics create maintenance costs for the business but prevent much larger costs that are highly likely to occur in the long run. This paper presents an experimental setup to detect insulation problems of XLPE cables. The experimental setup is composed of a coupling capacitor, voltage divider circuit, High-Voltage transformer, coupling device, and coaxial cable. The specimen of XLPE cable is connected from the high-voltage side of the transformer and the data is collected from the measuring device connected at the end of the coupling device. The paper presents different test results for different XLPE cable specimens tested on the presented system. It is possible to test different medium or high-voltage cables using the presented experimental setup

INVESTIGATION OF THE CHANGE OF VIBRATION IN CARTESIAN 3D PRINTER SYSTEMS WITH MECHANICAL IMPROVEMENTS AND ITS EFFECTS ON SURFACE ROUGHNESS

    Get PDF
3D printers are widely used in every industry these days. However, the features required from the products are becoming more and more important. Especially in the field of prototyping, 3D printers have become indispensable in design and manufacturing. One of the most important factors determining the product quality is the surface quality. Also, the most important factor determining the surface quality in production is the robustness of the production machine. Therefore, a 3D printer with a Cartesian system, which is the most widely used mechanical system, was chosen in this study. A production sample in the shape of a cube was preferred and a total of nine different parameters were used at three different printing speeds (40, 60, 80 mm/sec.) and three different filling forms (hilbert curve, octagram spiral, concentric). The standard system vibrations of this printer were recorded with the help of dataloggers that measure 3-axis acceleration during production. Afterwards, mechanical improvements were made in the system in all 3 axes. After these improvements, the same production process was carried out again and the difference in mechanical vibrations in the system was examined. In addition, in order to observe the change in the production quality, the surface roughness values in each production were examined in 3 axes and the changes in the production quality were examined. Mechanical improvements provide quality increase in every axis on the surface quality. However, when compared with the measured vibration values, there is no significant correlation between them. As a result, it can be said that the rigidity feature in 3D printer mechanical system has a great effect on the product properties and quality

    Get PDF
In this scientific work, we present results obtained in wheat and corn culture, during the period 2013- 2022, at the "Mircea Moțoc" Perieni Soil Erosion Research and Development Station, through fertilization with several types of organo-mineral fertilizers. The effect of long term (10 years) nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization upon soil fertility and yield, was followed with doses 0, 40, 80, 120, and 160 kg N/ha and 0, 40, 80, 120, 160 kg P/ha doses. Long term fertilization led to a statistically significant increase of grain yield. The research carried out highlighted the fact that the rational use of chemical and organic fertilizers, offers the possibility of restoring the fertility of eroded soils in a short period of time, simultaneously with the important increase in production, depending on the type of soil, the degree of erosion and the doses of fertilizers applied. Organic and organo-mineral fertilizers, are intended especially for ameliorative and soil protection treatments against water and wind erosion. By using organo-mineral fertilizers, erosion is reduced by 30%. By fertilizing with one ton of organo-mineral fertilizers, between three and eight tons of natural fertilizers are substituted and more than five hundred kilograms per hectares of humic acids and synthetic polymers are incorporated into the soil

    Get PDF
During 2021-2022 two fields trial with the winter barley variety “Lucian” was conducted. The studys was conducted in 2 different locations (Constanța and Călărași) and aimed to evaluate the biological activity of two herbicides based Fluroxypyr and Florasulam in control of broadleaf weeds in winter barley crops. The experiments were placed in randomized blocks, in 4 repetitions with a plot area of 100 m2. Efficacy and selectivity of the herbicides Flurostar Super SE (100 g/l fluroxypyr +1 g/l florasulam) and Tomigan XL 102.5 SE (100 g/l fluroxypyr + 2.5 g/l florasulam), applied at registered and higher rates, was evaluated. The herbicide application was done at the phenophase of the crop – 1st – 2nd stem node (ВВСН 30-32). The efficacy of the products by the 10 score scale of EWRS was recorded. The results were compared with untreated controls. The herbicide selectivity for the winter barley by the 9 score scale for phytotoxicity of EWRS was reported. The results obtained showed that the efficacy depends on the dose applied, the type of weeds and their density on square meter. The herbicide based floroxypyr and florasulam ensured a good efficacy in controlling of broadleaf weeds in winter barley, the best results being obtained at the higher dose. For both herbicides (Flurostar Super and Tomigan XL) at all evaluated rates signs of phytotoxicity for the crop were not observed
