CHARACTERISTICS OF PRESERVATION AND PROTECTION OF OLD AUTOCHTHONOUS TOMATO VARIETIES

    Get PDF
In 2007, the Agricultural Extension Service "Sombor" in cooperation with the Ministry launched the pilot project "Save the old Vojvodina vegetable varieties". A large number of elementary school students participated in the campaign, and 5296 samples were collected. All samples have been determined, entered into the database and sown on a sample field. Every year, an analysis of selected samples was done with short descriptions of the varieties. In previous years, we selected the most interesting varieties and described them in more detail. In this paper, we would like to present the old authentic varieties of tomatoes that we singled out as the most interesting

CAN FRESHWATER CLADOPHORA GLOMERATA MACROALGAL BIOMASS BE COMBINED IN RABBIT DIETS TO ENHANCE NOT ONLY RABBIT MEAT QUALITY BUT ALSO RABBIT HEALTH?

Despite numerous challenges and rising consumer demands, strategies for growing healthy animals and improving sustainability are being pursued, such as using natural, renewable sources to replace traditional feed materials. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyse the impact of macroalgal C. glomerata biomass on rabbit physiological features. The feeding trial (52-122 days) was carried out with twenty male Californian rabbits assigned to two dietary treatments (n=10 rabbits/treatment) and fed standard compound diet (SCD) and SCD + 4% C. glomerata (CG4). Macroalgal biomass was collected from the Lithuanian River Šventoji. At the end of the feeding trial, twelve rabbits (n=6 rabbits/treatment) were randomly selected and euthanized; samples were collected post-portem. A comprehensive analysis of rabbit organ development, histomorphometry, short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), and ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N) accumulation in intestinal contents was performed. The CG4 treatment had no impact on organ or intestinal development or the concentration of NH3-N in the duodenum (P>0.05). However, the crypt depth was significantly lower in the duodenum of CG4 compared to SCD, but 14.40 μm deeper in the ileum (P<0.05). Although CG4 had no impact on villus height, it had an impact on the villus/crypt ratio (V/C), which was higher in the duodenum in CG4 but lower in the ileum in SCD (P<0.05). After examining the gut contents from the duodenum, CG4 significantly reduced the lactic acid concentration, which was almost four times lower compared to SCD (P<0.05). Overall, C. glomerata in rabbit diets can improve the crypt depth in the ileum and therefore the absorption of nutrients that remain digested; nevertheless, it can reduce the crypt depth in the duodenum and thus the digestive area required to carry out the primary nutrient absorption. Moreover, such inclusion can reduce the concentration of lactic acid, whose decrease can affect weaker peristalsis and bowel movements

The objective of the present study was to determine the effect of air fryer technology on quality changes of spring roll during frying in an oven by means of color values (L*, a*, b*), browning index (BI) and frying efficiency. Box-Behnken design was carried out for oven temperature of 200 to 240 °C, a frying time of 15 to 20 min, and tray rack position in oven of 1 to 3. L* values ranged from 47.29 to 82.34. BI values ranged from 27.10 to 160.30 for spring rolls fried in air fryer oven. The highest coefficients of correlation (r=0.99) were determined to be between L* and BI values. The minimum BI value was observed at 200 °C for 18 min with the tray placed on the third rack position. The oven temperature, frying time, and tray rack position played the most crucial role in BI, given the high F- values (77.41, 75.24, 76.41, respectively) and very low p-values (0.000) (p < 0.05). The R2 value of 0.95 and R2pred of 0.89 were found for the air fryer frying of spring rolls. These results suggested that frying with air fryer of spring rolls can be used for maintaining the quality of spring rolls

OLD AGE AND AGING – A CHALLENGE FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

    Get PDF
The modern demographic situation is characterized by an aging population due to an increase in life expectancy. The substantial increase in the relative proportion of elderly and old people poses a number of challenges for health care professionals. Nurses interact closely with health care consumers in a variety of work environments. This enables them to assess health needs broadly, track how environmental factors affect the health of patients and their families, and how people respond to different strategies and services

INTENSITY OF HAILSTORM IN KAKHETI REGION IN GEORGIA

    Get PDF
Kakheti region is one of the hail risk regions in Georgia. It is particularly noteworthy that Kakheti is famous for its agricultural crops, vineyards, gardens, annual and perennial crops. In the warm period of the year, there are frequent hailstorms, which destroy the crops and thus cause great damage to both the region and the country\u27s economy. In many cases, the intensity of hail determines the amount of damage - the greater the intensity, the greater the damage. The purpose of the study is to determine the intensity of hail for the Kakheti region, which is the subject of our special interest, since intense hail damages this region the most. Average and maximum intensities of hail were estimated based on available data. Areas of intense hail were defined according to different intensities. Tables of average and maximum intensity of hail and corresponding geo- informational maps were compiled. The research was carried out according to the data of 10 meteorological stations in the Kakheti region, which includes both the last century (1983-1991) and 2014-2018 data on hail. The obtained results will contribute to the planning and implementation of anti-hail works in the Kakheti region

CONSUMER SOCIALIZATION OF CHILDREN IN LOW-INCOME FAMILIES

    Get PDF
This study investigates whether and how children’s and their mother’s proneness to consumption would affect children’s liking for shopping in low-income families. The expectation is that children would be directly affected from their mothers’ orientation towards consumption and shopping. A survey was employed in low-income households to 126 children attending primary school and their mothers. Results imply that mothers play a direct role in shaping children’s orientation towards consumption. More specifically, children’s own consumption orientation would increase their liking for shopping. Mothers’ proneness to consumption, however, directly mediates this relationship. These results are discussed along with theoretical and practical implications

A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF THE INFORMAL ECONOMY ON THE COMPORTMENT OF THE EXCHANGE RATES IN ALBANIA

    Get PDF
The use of foreign currencies as partial substitute of national currency is qualified herein as contributors for a relatively good conduct of the Euro-ALL FX rates. Its effect is considerable due to the significant size of the informal sector where this economic event takes place, and by other cash inflows from Euro zone-economies. At the same time, those occurrences have contributed on the over- evaluation of the national currency but imposed high nonstationary of the rate of return distribution and large multifractality spectrum of the exchange prices

THE POTENTIAL OF AI IN B2B E-COMMERCE: A STRUCTURED LITERATURE REVIEW

    Get PDF
Unlike B2C E-Commerce, the exploration of E-Commerce in the B2B domain has not been as extensive, although B2B business models are expanding, and the number of purely online transactions is steadily increasing. The following application areas highlight the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in B2B commerce for enhancing efficiency and improving the customer experience. Personalization enables individual product recommendations and tailored offers. AI analyzes data to predict customer needs and provide recommendations while automating repetitive tasks such as order processing and customer support. AI-powered systems assist customers in product search and ordering, and aid in dynamic pricing to maximize revenue. This paper summarizes the existing literature through a structured literature review in the context of B2B E-Commerce

A PICTURE PROVOKES A THOUSAND THOUGHTS. ARE THEY ALL RIGHT?

    Get PDF
Cave illustrations from the prehistoric period used to tell stories of hunting and of rituals and even today provide us with a satisfactory view of how our ancestors lived many centuries ago. In this sense, illustrations in books help to make the content more easily understood whether the content is a fiction story or a scientific textbook. In scientific textbooks especially, pictorial representations are used widely in order to clarify relationships between measurable quantities and even between observables and more abstract ideas. However, pictures and diagrams are not free from misinterpretations and/or oversimplifications, therefore provoking a series of thoughts which can create or maintain logical deductions not strictly true within the scientific realm studied. It is therefore, not straightforward and always true that a picture has an equivalent of thousand words and may be used accordingly. In Chemistry textbooks we have identified several cases where pictorial representations may give rise to misconceptions which could and should be avoided. In most of the cases discussed there is a way to overcome such effects with low cost and high applicability amendments, a few of which are proposed in the text

LEARNERS\u27 MOTIVATION THROUGH GAMIFICATION AND DIGITAL GAMES

    No full text
In recent years, gamification has become an increasingly well-known practice being introduced in several fields, including marketing, social networks, and education in several school subjects. Gamification is the incorporation of game components, primarily those from video games, into nongame contexts to increase motivation and engagement in learning. It involves designing educational activities that can progressively present knowledge and guide students toward the achievement of lesson objectives. Many students who are not interested in learning through conventional teaching approaches could find a source of motivation in the application of gamification in the educational environment. The deterioration of student engagement and motivation that the education system is now facing can be partially addressed through the application of gamification. In this research, we examined the link between gamification, motivation, and school performance of primary school students. Creating games for students to enjoy is just one aspect of it. We hypothesized that using the game in teaching would create a pleasant learning environment which would lead to an increase in motivation and engagement in learning and deep knowledge. The research was carried out at three levels: a survey on teachers\u27 opinions towards gamification, a didactic intervention based on gamification (action research), and a focus group with the teachers involved. Our findings outline a paradigm for using gamification in the classroom, a sample of best practices, and student perspectives on gamification. Therefore, regardless of the subject taught, one of the best ways to increase interest in learning is through gamification. Provides students with a learning framework that makes every lesson engaging and interesting. To keep students interested in studying, whenever you feel that their learning interest in learning is reduced, the use of gamification can improve the situation
