    TOWARDS AN OBJECTIVE COMPARISON OF PANNING FEATURE ALGORITHMS FOR UNSUPERVISED LEARNING

    Estimations of panning attributes are an important feature to extract from a piece of recorded music, with downstream uses suchas classification, quality assessment, and listening enhancement.While several algorithms exist in the literature, there is currently no comparison between them and no studies to suggest which one is most suitable for any particular task. This paper compares four algorithms for extracting amplitude panning features with respect to their suitability for unsupervised learning. It finds synchronicities between them and analyses their results on a small set of commercial music excerpts chosen for their distinct panning features. The ability of each algorithm to differentiate between the tracks is analysed. The results can be used in future work to either select the most appropriate panning feature algorithm or create aversion customized for a particular task

    Främjande och förebyggande arbete för flerspråkiga elevers matematikutveckling

    Syftet med denna studie är att bidra med kunskap om hur lärare och speciallärare i grundskolan uppfattar och beskriver sitt främjande och förebyggande arbete för att stödja flerspråkiga elevers matematikutveckling. Studien fokuserar särskilt på undervisningsstrategier, språkmedvetenhet och stödinsatser som bidrar till en tillgänglig och inkluderande lärmiljö. Utifrån Sveriges mångkulturella kontext belyses undervisningsstrategier och stöd på individ-, grupp- och organisationsnivå, med målet att bidra med kunskap om hur hinder i lärmiljön kan undanröjas och en mer inkluderande matematikundervisning skapas. Studien genomfördes som en kvalitativ studie genom elva semistrukturerade intervjuer som kompletterades med fem strukturerade observationer av undervisning med lärare och speciallärare i kommunal grundskola i åk 1–6. Data analyserades genom tematisk analys. Resultatet visade på att förståelsen för ord och begrepp, av undervisningsspråket, problemlösning eller skriftliga instruktioner medför utmaningar för flerspråkiga elever. Betydelsen av kartläggning och tidig upptäckt av utmaningar i matematik samt att arbeta på ett språkmedvetet och multimodalt sätt ansågs vara avgörande för flerspråkiga elever att lyckas i matematikutvecklingen. Det som upplevdes som hindrande var bristfälligt systematiskt arbete med kartläggningar och analys samt samarbete mellan lärare och speciallärare. Ett främjande arbetssätt stärker lärande för alla elever, oavsett språklig bakgrund, genom att göra undervisningen mer tydlig, tillgänglig och inkluderande

    Factors for successful mathematical conversations in the early years of elementary education

    Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva gynnsamma och begränsade faktorer för framgångsrika matematiska samtal i grundskolans tidiga år. Genom en systematisk litteraturöversikt visar undersökningen att det krävs genomtänkta samtalsstrategier som Talk Moves och Math Talk Learning Community, för att främja elevers matematiska utveckling. För att samtalen ska bli gynnsamma behöver utmaningar som ojämlikt deltagande och bristande struktur hanteras. Studiens resultat diskuteras i relation till olika ramverk för framgångsrika matematiska samtal. Studiens huvudsakliga slutsats är att, för att göra matematiska samtal framgångsrika så läggs ett stort ansvar på den enskilde läraren eftersom det inte ges någon entydig bild av hur sådana samtal bör genomföras

    Enabling the Decarbonization of Regional Air Transport with Series Hybrid Electric Propulsion

    The aviation industry faces significant environmental challenges, prompting the implementation of regulations to mitigate the adverse effect of carbon-based energy and associated emissions. While electrified flight is a promising pathway, limitations in specific energy density of batteries narrow down the application space to commuter and regional classes. Towards that direction, this work investigates the design and operation of a series hybrid electric 30-passenger regional aircraft. A multi-disciplinary framework is utilized, comprising modelling approaches for multi-point thermal engine design, physics-based electrical component sizing and performance, aircraft sizing, mission design, and environmental assessment. Distributed propulsion with up to three propellers per wing is evaluated for aerodynamic benefits. With optimal wing redesign, drag reduction benefits only reach 1% for the selected aircraft class and flight velocities. Variable free power turbine speed operation is promising in reducing engine mass and improving performance of both thermal and electrical power systems. A combination of hybridization during take-off, climb and cruise defines the optimal design and operation guidelines for the hybrid concept. However, due to the increased mass of the battery and electrical power system, block fuel benefits only in the order of 5% are reported, compared to a turboelectric aircraft.     Matematikundervisningsängslan hos lärare : Orsaker, konsekvenser och strategier för att övervinna den

    Denna studie undersöker matematikundervisningsängslan hos lärare, med fokus på bakomliggande orsaker, konsekvenser för undervisning och elevers lärande samt strategier för att hantera denna ängslan. Studien genomfördes som en systematisk litteraturstudie där vetenskapliga artiklar från databaserna ERIC och Scopus analyserades med tematisk analys.Resultatet visar att matematikundervisningsängslan ofta kan relateras till negativa erfarenheter av matematik, låg självtillit samt samhälleliga normer och förväntningar. Ängslan kan påverka undervisningens utformning genom mer försiktiga och mindre elevaktiva arbetssätt, vilket kan ha betydelse för elevers motivation och lärande. Vidare identifieras flera strategier för att hantera matematikundervisningsängslan, bland annat fortbildning som stärker ämneskunskaper och didaktisk trygghet samt emotionella och kognitiva stödinsatser.Studiens slutsats visar att tematikundervisningsängslan är ett komplext fenomen som behöver uppmärksammas på både individ- och organisationsnivå

    The aim of this paper is to give some constructions results of averaging operators on Hom-Lie algebras. The homogeneous averaging operators on q-deformed Witt and q-deformed W(2, 2) Hom-algebras are classified. As applications, the induced Hom-Leibniz algebra structures are obtained and their multiplicativity conditions are also given.

    Being Open to a Process of Learning : The Meaning of Joint Activities With Patients as Narrated by Nursing Staff in Psychiatric Inpatient Care

    Forming therapeutic relationships is considered important within psychiatric and mental health nursing. One way of achieving this is through social interaction when engaging in joint activities. However, introducing and using nursing interventions based on joint activities in psychiatric inpatient care has proven challenging. Since staff motivation is important, researching the meaning of engaging in joint activities from the nursing professional's point of view can provide information that is relevant in this area. This study aims to illuminate the meaning of participating in joint activities with patients as narrated by nursing professionals in psychiatric inpatient care. Narrative interviews with 14 nursing professionals with experience from psychiatric inpatient care were conducted. Data were analysed using phenomenological hermeneutics and reported following the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ) guidelines. Results illuminate that engaging in joint activities means being open to a process of learning. Four themes contributed to this understanding: Struggling with uncertainty, discovering aspects of the other, unfolding paths to self-fulfilment and sharing personhood. Being open to a process of learning means being willing to face uncertainty when engaging in activities as well as being open to learning about oneself as well as the other. Through openness to this process of learning, a sharing of personhood can be achieved, where the nursing professional and the patient approach becoming two persons. Illuminating the meaning of joint activities from the nursing professionals' perspective may provide valuable insights related to introducing and using interventions focusing on joint activities

    Challenges and propositions for research in quality management – Relevance gap revisited

    This study explores the enduring relevance gap between academic research and practical application in quality management (QM). It assesses how well scholarly literature addresses the key organizational challenges identified by practitioners, aiming to enhance research impact. Employing the Delphi method, the study captures the top practitioner concerns in 2024 and compares them with data from 2012 and 2018. A systematic review of highly cited academic publications is then used to evaluate alignment with these priorities. Findings highlight significant misalignment, especially in areas such as strategic integration, agility, leadership, and co-creation. The research traces the evolution of QM from compliance-oriented models toward innovation-driven approaches, while identifying barriers, including the increasing lag between research production and application. The study emphasizes the need for more timely, practitioner-relevant outputs and advocates for closer researcher–practitioner collaboration. By combining longitudinal practitioner insights with a citation-focused review, this research contributes original evidence on the persistence of the relevance gap and offers strategies for narrowing it. Limitations include the focus on expert input and established literature, which may overlook emerging topics. Practical recommendations involve fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, enhancing knowledge translation, and improving dissemination practices to increase the real-world utility of QM research

    Computational transformations of early childhood education : Pathways toward child‐centred computing in two educational change projects

    Programming is becoming a key subject in early education globally, with surging problems of how computer science can become a subject for children of all ages and backgrounds. Problems of implementing new technologies in the old curricula have long been noted, and lately, concern over computer science education goals is often too narrow and skills-based without concerns for the critical educational potential. This study follows the change process of two case preschool departments implementing programming with a floor robot across a seven-month design process. Mixed analytical techniques based on activity theory are used to examine the tensions, conflicts and development of pedagogical alternatives. The studies show the strenuous change processes involving local transformations toward a child-centred, inclusive early computer science education and development of projects centring making, children's exploration, tinkering and play as key parts of the learning process. It discusses how the considerable change processes enabled pedagogical solutions coherent with important concepts in computer programming and how computing education can build on child-centred pedagogies through local adaptations and age-appropriate designs. Practitioner notes What is already known about this topic Computer science and programming are becoming part of early education worldwide. Less is known about how to implement computing with ever-younger age groups, especially for those under three. That technological change can be a strenuous change process building on societal, historical and educational tensions, requiring individual learning and organisational change. What this paper adds Two cases of change designing computing education for 1–2- and 3–5-year-olds. Design processes raising critical questions about current standard childhood programming materials being resolved to enable a child-centred computing education. Challenges and potentials specific to early childhood in adopting computer science education. Implications for practice and/or policy Computing education challenges pedagogical notions, such as the role of failure in education. Computing education can be developed for very young children. However, there are considerable critical challenges to resolve in developing a child-centred approach. Childhood fundamentals such as play-based pedagogy can work synergistically with computer science activities, providing educational potential, also relevant for computer science education at large.

    Democratic inclusiveness, knowledge focus or something else? Critical analysis of the curriculum for Swedish pupils with intellectual disabilities

    The extent to which compulsory school for pupils with intellectual disabilities (ID) differs from regular compulsory school is partly reflected in its curriculum. Regarding elements such as democracy and democratic inclusiveness, research is typically lacking. An analysis of the latest curriculum for Swedish pupils with ID shows that discursive themes such as knowledge, learning, values, and democracy are salient features. That in turn indicates a substantial overlap with the regular compulsory school in terms of aims, values, and syllabi contents. However, the curriculum fails to convey how pupils with ID should learn or elaborate on elements such as democratic participation and be prepared for a future life as democratic citizens, leaving teachers and other stakeholders without guidance in terms of implementation practices. Hence, while the set goals are high it is unclear if they are to be deemed as aspiration goals rather than realistic goals for most pupils with ID
