Sami blir författare : Identitet, berättande och autenticitet i Sami Saids Monomani

    No full text
This article examines Sami Said’s book Monomani (2013) with a focus on the intersection between narrative and cultural identity. Monomani is a seemingly autobiographical account of Sami’s struggle to write Said’s debut novel Väldigt sällan fin (2013). It takes the form of a letter to his friend Sara where he apologizes for withdrawing from her while finishing writing his book. The analysis takes its departure from a dilemma that Said has described in interviews and radio programs: he writes to express his true self, liberated from a limiting and falsifying iden-tity imposed on him by others based on his ethnicity and religion; but when he writes about himself, he thereby also causes an inner division and a falsification of his own self. This dilemma is placed within a theoretical framework of narrative and cultural identity, focusing on the issues of authenticity and autobiographical narration. The theoretical discussion highlights, on the one hand, how authenticity in a both narrative and cultural context can be conceptual-ized in terms of what Mark Freeman and Jens Brockmeier have called narrative integrity, and, on the other hand, the critique of monological autobiographical identity both by autobiogra-phy scholar like Georges Gusdorf and Paul John Eakin and by theorists of selfhood like Judith Butler and Adriana Cavarero. Based on these premises, the analysis of Monomani shows how Sami, the narrator of Mon-omani, achieves narrative integrity by disposing of cultural identity and attaining the identity of author but that he can do so only through a monological narration which refers back to his fictionalization of himself in Väldigt sällan fin and which severs the connection between life and narrative. In the second part of the analysis, it is then shown how Monomani undermines the validity of this monological account by thematizing the scenes of address that, according to Butler, structure self-narration. The analysis concludes by arguing that, through emulation of Gertrude Stein’s autobiographical writing, Said creates in his two books an integrated autofic-tional work where the positions of narrator and reader are doubled and fictionalized, whereby the dilemma of an alienating cultural identity is returned to its dialogical foundation and turned into an appeal for recognition of identity beyond social categorization.Det gränsöverskridande jage

An Exploratory Cross-Country Study on Italian and Swedish Preschool Teachers' Role in Supporting Children's Mathematising During Play

    No full text
This study examines how preschool teachers reflect on their role in challenging children's mathematical thinking in play. The study was conducted with participants in Italy and Sweden, and data were collected through focus group discussions. We use Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) and the concept of didactic sensitivity to understand how preschool teachers describe their support of mathematical thinking in children's play and how they interact in play to promote mathematics learning. The findings show that teachers from both focus groups notice, interpret, and improve mathematical content in children's play. They outline their role in supporting mathematisation during play situations, for instance, by describing mathematical concepts and providing the children with resources. However, the findings show differences and tensions in how teachers perceive their role in children's play, with Italian teachers highlighting the importance of children's autonomy and Swedish teachers stressing the importance of being facilitators

Business models for second life batteries : A comprehensive framework for selecting sustainable business options

    No full text
The growing demand for batteries, driven by the rapid growth of electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies, has led to increased focus on their lifecycle management. While batteries may reach the end of their primary life, they often have the potential for a second life, offering valuable services before their eventual recycling. This paper presents a comprehensive business model framework tailored for the second life battery business, aiming to guide stakeholders in the battery ecosystem through the complexities of this emerging field. Developed through detailed theoretical and practical industry insights, the framework is segmented into three core elements: value proposition, value creation and delivery, and value capture. Each core element further branches into sub-elements, offering a modular approach for stakeholders to construct unique business models. The paper also includes in-depth value analyses, sustainability implications, and stakeholder interests, providing a holistic understanding of the second life battery business. Practical implications for key stakeholders in the battery ecosystem, including battery OEMs, remanufacturers, repurposers, and dealers, are discussed. The paper contributes to the theory of circular business models in general, with specific relevance to battery circularity.

Bridging TSN and 5G networks : Prototype design and evaluation for real-time embedded systems

    No full text
Integrating Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) with 5G cellular networks facilitates high-bandwidth, low-latency end-to-end communication in networked embedded systems. An integrated TSN-5G network has the potential to support predictable and deterministic end-to-end communication, as well as to significantly enhance scalability, particularly in industrial automation, by providing flexibility, efficiency, and responsiveness. This paper aims to facilitate the end-to-end (E2E) communication over the integrated TSN-5G networks, by addressing two of the main challenges: (1) design and implementation of an effective TSN-5G gateway that not only ensures an effective forwarding mechanism to translate the traffic among both networks, but also maps the TSN traffic to the corresponding 5G quality-of-service profiles to ensure the timing requirements of highly critical traffic, and (2) establishment of clock synchronization across all network components to support the E2E communication in TSN-5G networks. The paper outlines the design and implementation of a robust TSN-5G gateway that bridges TSN and 5G network architectures, ensuring seamless interoperability between them. We utilize a standalone private 5G network within a controlled lab environment to establish the E2E communication for the TSN-5G network, with a particular emphasizes on analyzing latencies and jitter to provide valuable insights for industrial implementation. Moreover, the gateway facilitates a time synchronization approach, to enable time coordination between network components that supports E2E communication on TSN-5G networks considering the hardware limitation. Our findings indicate that achieving latencies below 20 ms is feasible in an integrated TSN-5G network using the proposed configuration of a private 5G setup with a channel bandwidth of 40 MHz

Clinically guided adaptive contrast adjustment for fetal plane classification : a modular plug-and-play solution

    No full text
Fetal ultrasound standard plane recognition plays a vital role in ensuring accurate prenatal assessment but remains challenging due to intrinsic factors such as poor tissue contrast, indistinct anatomical boundaries, and variability in image quality caused by operator differences. To address these issues, we introduce a plug-and-play Adaptive Contrast Adjustment Module (ACAM), inspired by how clinicians manually adjust image contrast to highlight clearer structural cues. The proposed module integrates a lightweight, texture-aware subnetwork that learns to generate clinically meaningful contrast parameters, producing multiple contrast-enhanced representations of the same image through a differentiable transformation process. These enhanced views are then fused within subsequent classifiers to enrich discriminative features. Experiments conducted on a multi-center dataset containing 12,400 fetal ultrasound images across six anatomical planes demonstrate consistent performance gains: the accuracy of lightweight models rises by 2.02%, conventional architectures by 1.29%, and state-of-the-art models by 1.15%. The key novelty of ACAM lies in its content-adaptive and clinically aligned contrast modulation, which replaces random preprocessing with physics-guided transformations mimicking sonographers' diagnostic workflows. By leveraging multi-view contrast fusion, our approach enhances robustness against image quality variations and effectively links low-level texture cues with high-level semantic understanding, offering a new framework for medical image analysis in realistic clinical settings. Contextualizing interprofessional competencies in the Balkans : Healthcare workers’ understanding of the concepts based on an existing framework and a self-report instrument

    No full text
This paper emphasizes adapting frameworks for interprofessional collaboration (IPC) from high-income settings to culturally distinct, resource-constrained regions. We adapted and validated the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competency framework within a Balkan healthcare context facing systemic, educational, and financial challenges. Frameworks such as IPEC may not fully capture contextual nuances in lower-middle-income countries (LMICs). Therefore, we examined how the IPEC framework could be culturally adapted for healthcare workers in the Balkans. A convergent mixed-methods design was employed, involving two interprofessional workshops and a follow-up survey. Healthcare workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Kosovo participated in reflective discussions and prioritized competencies from the original 38-item IPEC instrument. The adapted instrument (IPEC-21B) was evaluated for psychometric reliability and contextual relevance and proved to be both valid and practical due to its shorter format. The instrument measured attitudes toward IPC and encouraged critical dialogue about hierarchy, communication, and shared roles, positioning it as both an assessment tool and a catalyst for professional learning. The results demonstrate how an adapted survey on IPC foster systemic thinking and professional development provides a tool for increased awareness. By retaining all core IPEC domains, IPEC-21B provides a tool for increasing awareness and developing interprofessional competencies in a way that aligns with local cultural and educational needs in settings with limited traditions of interprofessional practice. Tailoring an IPC instrument to local contexts enhances healthcare workers’ understanding of collaboration and may improve patient outcomes and care equity. The participatory adaptation process emphasizes embedding dialogue and shared understanding into interprofessional education and assessment in LMICs

    No full text
Objective To assess the state of endodontic practices and identify factors influencing the use of modern endodontic techniques among dental practitioners in Croatia. Materials and Methods A questionnaire was distributed to all dental offices in Croatia, yielding 819 responses (27% response rate). Data were descriptively analyzed and statistically modeled. Results Nearly 74% of endodontic treatments in Croatia are performed by general practitioners (17 teeth per month per practitioner), while endodontic specialists handle the highest number of treatments per specialist (67 teeth per month, representing 15% of total treatments). 56% of respondents use radiography before the procedure "always" or "almost always" with intra-oral periapical radiography being the most commonly used technique. Rubber dams are used "never" to "rarely" by 74% of respondents. Apex-locators are highly prevalent, used "almost always" to "always" by 83% of practitioners. Magnifiers are rarely used, with 63% of respondents reporting they "never" use them. Lasers are never used by 92% of respondents, whereas 59% frequently use engine-driven instrumentation. 76% of respondents "always" or "almost always" determine the working length of the root canal. Sodium hypochlorite is the most common irrigant (88%), and EDTA for smear layer removal is used by 36% of respondents. The cold lateral condensation is the most popular obturation technique (64%). CBCT is unused by 59% of responders, most probably because it is not accessible. Conclusions Croatian endodontic practices are comparable to those in countries with similar economic status, but there is substantial potential, particularly among general practitioners, to enhance knowledge and awareness of modern technologies through continuous education. Underused techniques in Croatia include rubber dams, magnifiers, lasers, and CBCT
