Governing with Health and Safety in Mind : Favorable Conditions for Board OHS Discussions in Swedish Municipal Contexts
In the municipality context, the priorities and financial objectives established by boards of directors (‘boards’) may influence the quality of occupational health and safety (OHS) in organizations. Little is known about boards’ discussions of OHS, which is why we set out to investigate vice chairs’ and chairs’ perceptions of facilitating conditions for discussing OHS in municipal boardrooms. Thirty-four participants from 12 randomly selected municipalities were interviewed, and the data were analyzed using template thematic analysis. The results show that facilitating conditions for board OHS discussions can be linked to the individual, group, and organizational levels and that these interplay. The most prominent finding is the considerable influence that the (vice-)chairs have on whether and how OHS is discussed on the board, both in terms of influencing the psychological safety of its members and how OHS information is gathered. Furthermore, high levels of psychological safety among organizational representatives interacting with the board facilitate the acquisition of candid OHS information from the organization. With the high level of employee risk of long-term sickness absence in municipalities and the challenges of attracting employees, OHS could be considered a strategically important part of boards’ meeting agendas. Our findings suggest that OHS governance in municipality administrations and companies can be individual dependent and that the governance structure is inadequate for ensuring that OHS is discussed at the board level. © 2026 The Author(s).This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0International License (CC-BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the originalauthor and source are credited. Assessing Sectoral Low-Carbon Transition Impacts : an assessment approach applied to the embedding of transition debt finance in Swedish commercial real estate
Transition-oriented debt finance has expanded rapidly alongside growing expectations that financial actors will contribute to low-carbon transitions. Yet it remains uncertain whether such financing practices translate into meaningful impacts at the sectoral level. A central difficulty is analytical: when a low-carbon intervention is embedded over time, impacts on sectoral transition cannot be inferred from the scale of embedding, the presence of recognizable change, or compliance with criteria and reporting routines. This licentiate thesis develops and applies an analytically grounded approach for retrospective assessment of sectoral low-carbon transition impacts. It then interprets what the assessments imply about how the embedding of transition debt finance relates to sectoral low-carbon transitions. The approach addresses two analytically distinct types of impact: emission goal alignment of innovation and the acceleration of transformative low-carbon processes. Assessments consider the extent, low-carbon scope, and depth of linked innovation and process change relative to explicit reference points. The approach is applied to the embedding of transition-oriented debt finance in the Swedish commercial real estate sector from 2014 to 2021, an extreme case in which discernible impacts would be comparatively likely. The study adopts a critical realist–inspired research design and conducts a qualitative, retrospective sectoral case study drawing on documents, focus groups and interviews, and structured procedures for analytical linking and assessments. In this case, sectoral low-carbon transition impacts are interpreted as constrained: emission goal alignment is limited in the operations value chain and absent in the construction value chain, while acceleration of transformative low-carbon processes remains limited overall. This shows that extensive embedding of transition debt finance does not guarantee strong sectoral low-carbon transition impacts, even under favorable conditions for discernible impacts. Eligibility and reporting emphasized operations and standardized credentials, while construction and embodied-emission hotspots were less consistently targeted. By developing and applying an assessment approach focused on alignment and acceleration, the thesis advances a sector-level transition impact framing and provides a structured way to assess those impact types against explicit reference points, while treating credentialing as analytically central

Background: Physical activity is essential for healthy ageing and quality of life. As Sweden faces an ageing population, there is an increasing demand for health-promoting interventions within physiotherapy to preserve health and autonomy for this group. However, there is a lack of knowledge regarding the correlation between physical activity and quality of life in specific contexts, such as social housing, which is necessary for developing targeted behavioral medicine interventions. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between physical activity and quality of life among older adults (≥65 years), in the context of social housing in Central Sweden. Methods: A quantitative study was conducted using the questionnaires EQ-5D-5L and IPAQ-E. A total of 26 participants was included, and data was analyzed with Spearman´s rank correlation coefficient and descriptive statistics. Results: A statistically significant moderate positive correlation was found between physical activity level and quality of life measured with EQ-index. The correlation between physical activity level and quality of life measured with EQ-VAS was weak and non-significant. Conclusion: Physical activity has a positive correlation with quality of life in the target group. The results underscore the importance of physical activity as a central aspect of healthy ageing

Novel operational strategies to maximize crop and electricity production in single-axis agrivoltaic systems based on light response curve and daily light integral
Dynamic Agrivoltaic (APV) systems require tracking strategies that reconcile crop light demand with electricity generation, yet conventional True Tracking (TT) maximizes energy at the expense of ground irradiance. This study proposes two novel control strategies for single-axis APV systems: Daily Light Integral Tracking (DLIT) and Knee-Point Tracking (KPT). These strategies embed crop physiological requirements into tilt control using stage-dependent Daily Light Integral (DLI) profiles and temperature-sensitive Light Response Curves (LRCs). A simulation framework combining solar geometry, ground irradiance modeling, Leaf Area Index (LAI) dynamics, and photosynthetic carbon assimilation was applied to barley under Swedish conditions and benchmarked against TT, anti-tracking (AT), and scheduled tracking (ST). Relative to TT, KPT increased biomass from 10.60 to 11.67 ton ha⁻¹ (+10.1 %) while reducing energy yield from 937.74 to 804.72 kWh kWp⁻¹ (−14.2 %). DLIT achieved near-optimal electricity production (933.94 kWh kWp⁻¹, −0.4 % vs. TT) with a modest biomass gain to 10.76 ton ha⁻¹ (+1.5 %), demonstrating its ability to prioritize energy conversion after meeting crop DLI targets. Smoothing of tilt trajectories reduced mechanical oscillations but affected strategies differently: biomass decreased by 22–24 % across cases, while energy impacts varied (−8.5 % TT, +19.6 % AT, −7.5 % DLIT, −0.6 % KPT) due to distinct baseline tilt-angle dynamics. The results show that crop-informed tracking enhances land-use efficiency by dynamically balancing food and energy objectives. Although quantitative outcomes are crop- and site-specific, the DLIT and KPT frameworks are transferable to other crops when appropriate LAI development, DLI targets, and light-response parameters are provided, enabling scalable next-generation APV control
Explainable artificial intelligence in air traffic control: effects of expertise on workload, acceptance, and usage intentions
Explainability is crucial for establishing user trust in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly within safety-critical domains such as Air Traffic Management (ATM) and Air Traffic Control (ATC). This study empirically investigates the effects of Explainable AI (XAI), specifically HeatMap-based visual explanations, on cognitive workload, user acceptance, and intention to use AI-driven decision-support systems among Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs). Despite significant theoretical advancements in the broader XAI domain, empirical evidence addressing the specific impact of visual explanations on human-AI interactions in safety-critical environments like ATC remains limited. To address these critical gaps, an experimental comparison was conducted between explainable (HeatMap) and non-explainable (BlackBox) AI conditions, involving two user groups: expert and student ATCOs. Both objective neurophysiological measures (Electroencephalography) and subjective questionnaires were employed to capture comprehensive user responses. Key findings revealed that the presence of visual explanations significantly reduced cognitive workload and enhanced users' willingness to adopt the AI system, regardless of participants' level of expertise. However, explicit perceptions of AI's impact on work performance were predominantly influenced by expertise, with less experienced controllers reporting a greater perceived impact than their expert counterparts. By combining objective neurometrics with subjective user assessments, this research advances methodological rigor in evaluating human-AI interactions and highlights the importance of tailored, user-centric explanations. These findings directly contribute to practical guidelines for designing cognitively compatible and trustworthy AI tools in ATC, providing nuanced insights for targeted training and deployment strategies based on user expertise.
