Mainstreaming Climate Change into EIA Process in Nigeria: Perspectives from Projects in Northern Nigeria

The persistent issue of drought in Northern Nigeria is exacerbated by the reduction in precipitation and rise in temperature. Nigeria is being impacted by climate change in diverse ways, necessitating the immediate implementation of proactive measures to tackle its challenges. It is crucial to integrate adaptation and mitigation into the country's development plans. The objective of the study is to identify current practices, gaps, and opportunities for incorporating climate change into the EIA framework; and the integration of climate change considerations into the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process from projects in Northern Nigeria. The study assesses various criteria in EIA reports, such as vulnerability assessments, climate projections, adaptation measures, stakeholder engagement, and policy compliance. A self-created questionnaire titled "Mainstreaming Climate Change within EIA" was utilized to collect data. The questionnaire was designed with an interactive format, divided into three main categories (Category A, B, C). It was conducted between February and April 2022, with 400 potential volunteers receiving electronic and hard copies of questionnaires, resulting in 127 valid responses. The findings from five EIA reports of projects in Northern Nigeria revealed significant gaps in addressing climate change, including limited attention to vulnerability and risk assessments, inadequate reporting of adaptation measures, and insufficient stakeholder engagement. Key stakeholder interviews conducted support the relevance and significance of incorporating climate change adaptation skills into the EIA process. However, the study contends that in order for stakeholders to accept mainstreaming climate change mitigation and adaptation, institutional and policy changes are needed

Assessing the Impact of Merdeka Belajar on Student Engagement and Academic Performance: A Comprehensive Literature Review

The Merdeka Belajar policy in Indonesia aims to enhance student engagement and academic performance through various strategies and initiatives. This comprehensive literature review assesses the impact of Merdeka Belajar on student engagement and academic performance by examining relevant studies and research findings. The research methodology for assessing the impact of Merdeka Belajar on student engagement and academic performance can adopt a mixed method approach. This approach can include both quantitative and qualitative methods to gather comprehensive data on the various factors influencing student engagement and academic performance under Merdeka Belajar. The collected data can be analysed using statistical techniques such as regression analysis to examine the relationship between the implementation of Merdeka Belajar and student engagement and academic performance. The qualitative data can be analysed through thematic analysis to identify common themes and patterns related to student experiences and perceptions of Merdeka Belajar. The literature review reveals that the web-based character-building model implemented in Pontianak, Indonesia has been effective in improving students' positive characters. This model can potentially be applied in other cities in Indonesia to manage school and enhance character development among students. Additionally, the literature review highlights the importance of collaboration and integration among educational institutions to facilitate effective implementation of the Merdeka Belajar policy

Advanced Filtration Techniques in Environmental Engineering

Granular filters and membrane filters, two essential filtration methods in environmental engineering, are thoroughly examined in this study. These techniques greatly aid air pollution control problems and water and wastewater treatment. The first section of the study outlines the basic ideas that underpin each filtration technique. The mechanical particle trapping mechanisms of granular filters, their wide range of applications in water treatment, and design factors, including media kinds and layers, are all examined. On the other hand, membrane filters are closely scrutinised because of their size exclusion principles, variety of types (from microfiltration to ultrafiltration), and vital function in industrial waste treatment and desalination processes. The study goes into additional detail about the maintenance, clogging, and financial ramifications that different filtering techniques must deal with. A comparison analysis provides insights into each method's applicability for various environmental engineering applications by illuminating its efficacy, affordability, and application specificity. The study's conclusion considers the potential for growth and current and upcoming technical developments in the filtration industry. This study lays the groundwork for forthcoming advancements and uses in the field of environmental engineering while also highlighting the significance of these filtering methods in modern ecological engineering

Response of Growth, Yield and Content of Coriander (Coriandrum Sativum L.) fruits of Active Ingredients by Influence of planting distance Between Rows and Spraying of Nano-Iron

A field experiment was implemented during a winter season of 2023 in the Botanical Garden of the College of Basic Education - Al-Mustansiriya University to find out the response of growth, yield and content of coriander seeds of active ingredients by influence of planting distance between rows and spraying of nano-iron. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) according to split-plots arranging was used with three replications. The main plots including three distances between rows (10, 20 and 30 cm), whilst the sub plots included spraying of two concentrations of nano-iron (10 and 20 mg L-1) as well as spraying of distilled water (0 mg nano-Fe L-1). The results revealed that the 30 cm distance between rows was significantly excelled in the main branches number, chlorophyll index, fruits number and fruits content of essential oil (7.74 branch plant-1, 34.12 Spad, 86.42 fruit plant-1 and 2.48%) sequentially, while the 10 cm distance between rows was significantly superiority in the plant height and 1000-fruits weight (66.13 cm and 12.97 g) sequentially. The plant that sprayed with nano-iron at a concentration of 10 mg L-1 was significantly superiority in the main branches number, chlorophyll index and fruits number (7.30 branch plant-1, 34.61 Spad and 85.83 fruit plant-1) sequentially, whereas the spraying of nano-iron at a 20 mg L-1 was significantly superiority in the plant height, 1000-fruits weight and fruits content of essential oil (66.65 cm, 11.60 g and 2.33%) sequentially. The di-interaction had significant effect on the most of studied traits. Further, the results of HPLC analysis indicated a difference in the percentages of the active ingredients (camphor, limonene and linalool) of coriander essential oil

Dental diseases are widespread all over the world and affect almost all segments of the population, especially its sensitive part - children and pregnant women. Among these diseases, periodontal and oral mucosa diseases are among the most common [2, 3, 6]

Criteria for the Detection of Anomalies of the Dental System in Children Due to Chronic Gastrointestinal Diseases

The oral cavity is part of the gastrointestinal tract. The oral cavity as well as the mucous membrane of the digestive tract have a morphofunctional similarity. The close connection of these sections is achieved by means of anatomical, physiological, humoral communications. On the mucous membrane of the oral cavity are located receptors that affect the secretory and motor activity of the gastrointestinal tract, serving as a source of strong reflexes

The Benefits of Using Gimkit and Kahoot Online Applications to Promote Interactive Learning Among Pharmacy Students

Students' participation in the didactic classroom environment limits their time spent on active learning, which has a negative impact on their recollection of topics taught using traditional teaching methods. As a result, interactive learning is employed as a substitute for engaging students in the classroom and enriching their learning experience. Integrating interactive learning activities has been proved to improve student learning and outcomes. The goals of this study are to analyze students' perceptions of the benefits and appropriateness of using online technologies (such as Socrative and Yammer) to encourage student interaction with the teacher and other students in the classroom setting
