    Get PDF
This study is an attempt to assess Kufa University EFL students’ awareness of lexical and grammatical collocation in English. It concerns itself with identifying which aspect of collocation is more or less challenging for the students. Thus, this study aims to find out whether there are significant differences between the participants’ performance with respect to both lexical and grammatical collocations in three colleges at the University of Kufa- namely: College of Languages, College of Arts and College of Education. Therefore, a test comprising 20 multiple-choice items concerning both types of collocation has been administered to a sample of 30 students randomly and equally selected from the three aforementioned colleges (10 participants from each college). The test results have validated the study hypothesis that Kufa University EFL students’ knowledge of both types of collocation is inadequate and lacking. Notwithstanding, findings of the study have demonstrated that there is a statistically significant difference regarding students’ performance on the test. Students performed well better on the lexical collocations test items than on the grammatical ones, which also proves the study's other hypothesis

Outcome of Three Levels Prefilled Cervical Interbody Fusion without Plates after Anterior Cervical Discectomy

    Get PDF
Prefilled Cervical interbody fusion by synthetic bone without plate Facilitates the retention of physiological lordosis and cervical spine stability in patients who have undergone cervical discectomy by anterior approach, a secure and efficacious treatment for disc herniation or spondylosis. Several spine specialists advocate the incorporation of a plate system to boost outcomes. According to literature findings, surgery involving three levels results in reduced fusion rates. Sixty-three person with cervical radicular pain and nine with myelopathy underwent anterior discectomy and fusion with prefilled or (Impregnated) cervical cages by anterior approach between July 2012 and June 2022 were included in the study without using plate systems. There was a total of 72 individuals, comprising of 48 males and 24 females, whose average age amounted to 54.33 years, falling within a range of 33 to 73 years, In variable hospitals of Erbil city. All cases took (an MRI), and 35 among them also took a C-Scan for preoperative assessment. All cases exhibited improvement in radiculopathy following surgery. However, myelopathy persisted in only three patients. After 12 months, 96% of patients demonstrated the fusion of surgically treated discs, as confirmed by an X-ray of the cervical spine region. Cervical lordosis was reinstated in nearly all patients who had lost it prior to the operation. No complications stemming from cage extrusion were reported and there were no instances of symptomatic pseudarthrosis. The inclusion of impregnated interbody fusions serves to impart a load-sharing capability and enhance spinal stability, thereby resulting in augmented segmental stiffness. This, in turn, leads to similar fusion rates as those elicited by bone grafts, even in cases of cervical degenerative disease spanning three levels

Otomycosis is a fungal infection of the outer ear that causes more than 9% of external otitis, and 80% of cases are caused by Aspergillus. This study aimed to analyse and assess outcomes related to patients with otomycosis during visits to the ENT clinic. The current study conducted a comprehensive evaluation of patients with otomycosis, which include 110 who underwent treatment during the first and second visits to the ear, nose, and throat clinic, which lasted 30 days. The clinical results of the patients were collected before and after treatment, which included medications associated with the treatment of otomycosis, which included both betadine and clotrimazole, which lasted 30 days during the first and second visits. This study evaluated patients with otomycosis before and after treatment in terms of the severity of symptoms, degree of pain, and patient’s quality of life. This study recorded the results of patients with otomycosis, which showed that patients between the ages of 40 and 49 had the highest rate of 36.36%. The most common symptoms are itching, which included 77 patients, and pain, which included 22 patients. The reasons that make patients more they are susceptible to otomycosis as 33 patients were infected as a result of using a hearing aid, 28 patients were infected as a result of water entering the ear, and 20 patients were infected as a result of using a hearing aid. In the presence of oil in the ear, 14 patients responded to betadine treatment, and ten patients responded to clotrimazole treatment in the first visit period. We also found that 87 patients responded to betadine treatment, and 97 patients responded to clotrimazole treatment in the second visit period. We evaluated symptom severity in patients with otomycosis, where the symptom score was 89.10 ± 4.25 at the first visit and 11.79 ± 2.58 at the second visit. Our study confirmed that the treatments betadine and clotrimazole demonstrate the effectiveness of their therapeutic effects on patients with otomycosis

The phrase "digital storytelling" is used in a variety of fields, including education and entertainment, although its meanings and explanations differ greatly

Normal Width of Third Ventricle in Libyan Population: Assessment By MRI

    Get PDF
Aim: As age advances, the human brain undergoes many gross and histopathological changes with regression of the brain tissue leading to the enlargement of the ventricles but also has been associated with many neurological disorders. Knowledge of morphometrics and the size of the normal ventricular system of the brain is important to understand these changes. This study aimed to determine the normal reference values of the width of the third ventricle in healthy subjects of the Libyan population using the magnetic resonance imaging technique (MRI) and to explore the sex and age-related differences. Subjects and methods:  This study was carried out on one hundred patients with normal brain MRI exams who underwent non-contrast MRI brain (fifty sex females and forty-four males) aged between twelve and ninety years during the period from January 2019 and March 2020. The third ventricle width was measured and statistically analyzed. Results:  The third ventricle width of all subjects' mean (± SD) was 3.243 ± 1.607 mm (The smallest TVW was 2.19 mm and the largest TVW was 5.84 mm). In females, the mean (± SD) was 3.08 ± 1.52 mm while in males; the mean (± SD) was 3.44 ± 1.700 mm. We found that width was higher in males than in females, but the difference was non-significant. (p value = 0.274). In our study, the youngest patient was 12 years old; whereas the oldest was 90 years. Third ventricle width (TVW) increased with advancing age and there was a steady rise across age groups until the sixth decade, after which there was a sharp rise. The small p-value (P<0.001) suggests that there is a statistically significant difference in third ventricle width (TVW) between the groups defined by the variable "age." Conclusion: Understanding of ventricular system anatomy is essential for clinicians, neurosurgeons, and radiologists. The literature highlights that ventricular size is a potential indicator in diagnosing many brain-related diseases. Additionally, the normal reference values of ventricles obtained from MRI are necessary to form the baseline data for interpreting pathological changes, planning surgery, and determining the presence and progress of some neurological diseases
