Utilizing Spectral Reflectance for Separating Salinity-Affected Sedimentary Soil Units and Predicting Some of Their Properties in Northern Basra Governorate
The study aimed to separate soil units and predict some of their properties using geomatics techniques and spectral reflectance analysis in the northern part of Basra Governorate in southern Iraq through spectral reflectance study. Chemical properties (Ece, pH, O.C, CEC, CaCO3, ESP, CEC) and physical properties (particle size distribution) were studied, in addition to the assumed composition of prevailing salts in the study area. Three sedimentary soil units were identified (river terraces, river basins, and marshes). Furthermore, there were significant correlations between spectral reflectance of spectral bands 4 and 5 and soil organic carbon content of 0.75 and 0.8, respectively, and with other spectral bands except bands 2 and 8. There were significant relationships between other properties and different spectral bands. Notably, there were no significant correlations between pH, ESP, CaCO3, CaSO4, and all spectral bands. The most predictable soil property through spectral reflectance is the soil's organic carbon content. Bands 4 and 5 are the most commonly used in soil science, especially in agriculture
Biotechnological Utilization of Kluyveromyces (3 Strains) for Flavor Compound Production from Agricultural Wastes"
An emerging field of biotechnology that has strong implications for the environment and economy is the use of yeast strains to convert sustainable agricultural and dairy wastes into useful products. These yeasts have special metabolism which enables them convert low value substrates into high value flavors and fragrances through different fermentation processes. K. marxianus is capable of producing numerous kinds of volatile molecules due to its fast growth rate and thermotolerance while K. lactis as well as K.fragilis can produce specific compounds like volatile sulfur compounds or glycerol respectively when grown under certain conditions known from prior researches. In this review we describe what these microorganisms are able to do according on substrate specificity; process optimization methods employed during their utilization as flavor producers besides potential applications in biotechnology concerning flavors are also discussed here
Analysis of Wastewater Treatment Plant Dimensions and Phosphate Content in the Euphrates River: A Chemical and Biological Study
In this study was performed to ascertain the effect of wastewater discharge on the level of phosphate in the water of station on the Euphrates river and the engineering design of the wastewater treatment plants to reduce the level of phosphate. Samples were collected near the station during the winter and spring seasons in 2024. Our study involves three aspects, the first aspect detects phosphate concentration. The second aspect concerned with measuring some engineering aspects of wastewater treatment plant, while the third aspect is measuring the biological properties, which is the excessive growth of the algae Chlorella vulgaris. The results of phosphate were compared with the Iraqi limits and the World Health Organization, and it was found that the concentration of phosphate (0.32 mg/1) exceeded the permissible limitaonly in spring 2024, within Iraqi specifications. The algae growth was thriving ( 0.9)and there was a record deviation from control (50%) indicating the inefficiency of treatment in Spring
Clinical Symptoms of the Systemic Inflammatory Response in Acute Severe Poisoning by Agents Affecting the Central Nervous System
Relevance. Currently, acute poisoning with substances affecting the central nervous system in the general structure of exogenous intoxications accounts for up to 50-60% of cases, of which up to 25% are severe and extremely severe lesions leading to the formation of critical conditions and requiring intensive care (Bonitenko E.Yu. et al., 2018; Luzhnikov E.A. et al., 2016; Bohnert A.S. et al., 2019; Muller D. et al., 2017; Taheri F. et al., 2015). The causes of widespread acute poisoning include the uncontrolled use of various medicines in everyday life, suicidal attempts, as well as the use of narcotic drugs for the purpose of drug intoxication (Rokhlina M.L., 2019; Nordstrom D. L. et al., 2017; Taheri F. et al., 2018). The severity of the condition of patients with acute severe poisoning by drugs affecting the central nervous system is due to pronounced disorders of the functions of various organs and body systems due to the specific action of xenobiotics (Luzhnikov E.A. et al., 2016), as well as developing hypoxia (Livanov G.A. et al., 2014; Hashemian M. et al., 2016), leading to the development of life-threatening complications, which often determines the outcome of chemical trauma
Indications for the Elimination of Morpho-Functional Changes Caused by Pathological Tooth Extraction
Dental examination and examination were carried out according to a generally accepted procedure using a set of standard dental equipment. When using elastic plastic mouth guards, which are recommended for stage 1 pathological tooth abrasion, it was possible to stop tooth abrasion at this level. Effective results were achieved in 90% of cases with electrophoresis with calcium and fluoride preparations to reduce tooth sensitivity
Specific Characteristics of Clinical and Laboratory Changes in the Course of Arterial Hypertension Against the Background of Diabetes
Arterial hypertension (AH) is one of the leading problems in cardiology, determining the structure of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality [1,2]. Prevalence of hypertension among adults. Increasing levels of systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure (BP) are associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular events [5]
Patient Curation - The Main Form of Independent Work of Students at the Department of Phthisiology and Pulmonology
The main competitive advantage of an educational institution is the quality of education at the current stage of the development of society, which is the satisfaction of consumers with educational service. Modern conditions for the development of society require changes in the organization of the educational process in a higher educational institution: to reduce the load on the study room, to replace passive listening to lectures with an increase in the share of the student's independent work. Thus, the basis for the future professional activity of a phthisiology is the curation of a patient by a student at the department of phthisiology and pulmonology, which began in senior years and continued in residency in the speciality “Phthisiology and pulmonology”
Some Passages from British Diplomat Augustus Henry Mounsey's Trip to Georgia
Georgia, because of its strategic location and importance, have always been under the special interests of the foreign visitors. One of those persons was a British diplomat and traveler Augustus Henry Mounsey (1834–1882). During his career, Augustus Henry Mounsey served as a diplomat in Portugal, Germany, Austria, and Japan.
He visited our country in the winter of 1865-1866. He described impressions of this journey in his book “A Journey Through the Caucasus and the Interior of Persia, which was published in London in 1872. Besides this, that he traveled around almost whole Georgia, he did not give us the detailed information about cities and regions of our country.
As it known, Augustus Henry Mounsey’s above-mentioned book is not widely studied for the researchers of the history of Georgia. That is why, we can say, that the author’s description and opinions are very valuable for the study of the history of that period of our country
The Extent of the Effect of Disclosing Research and Development Activities on Earnings Management
The research aims to identify voluntary disclosure of research and development (R&D) activities and the extent of its effect on earnings management. To achieve this goal, quantitative methods were used. In collecting data, the researchers depend on the financial statements published on the Iraqi Securities Commission website for a sample of companies, amounting to (4) samples, for the period (2013-2022). Voluntary disclosure of research and development activities was measured by research and development costs divided by sales. Earnings management is measured by Miller's model. The most important results reached are that there is a very low level of disclosure of research and development activities in companies (research sample). It is also noted that there is a large discrepancy in the levels of disclosure between companies and across the years (research sample), meaning that there are high levels in some observations, while there are low levels in other observations within a wide gap between the two levels. Also, it is noted that there are very high levels of earnings management according to Miller's model in companies (the research sample), and this level of earnings management varies from one company to another and from one observation to another, with great variation between those observations. It was also found that there is a positive relationship between the disclosure of research and development activities and earnings management, meaning that an increase in the level of disclosure of research and development activities will be accompanied by an increase in the level of earnings management practices in companies (research sample)
