Navigational and Technical Skill of Indian Deep-Sea fishermen: A Quantitative Analysis Between Fishermen Of Malabar And Coromandel Coast
Get PDFRising collision accidents involving fishing vessels in the South West Coast of India are a serious concern. Deep-sea fishing vessels from Malabar Coast are involved in close-quarters situations or collision incidents with the merchant vessels when they are fishing near or passing through the International Maritime Traffic Route (IMTR), which is located close to the Indian Coast. It could be because of their poor navigational abilities or practices. With the aim of finding the reason for such a rise in accidents, a study was conducted, comprising 175 respondents each from Malabar Coast (MC) and Coromandel Coast (CC) through a structured questionnaire. Unstructured methods were also employed to exactly understand the responses from the fishermen. The study compares the deep-sea fishermen from the Malabar Coast with Coromandel Coast to examine their navigational technical skills.The outcome of the study can bring out the lacuna in the navigational technical skills of the deep-sea fishermen and assist the policymakers in determining the training needs, and the modification in the vessel design for safe sea voyages

Impact of Literacy on Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna Awareness and Financial Inclusion: Evidence from Scheduled Tribes of Kerala
Get PDFAs the cornerstone of individual empowerment, socioeconomic growth, and global advancement, literacy is essential for promoting critical thinking, communication skills, and lifelong learning. This study aims to investigate the relationship between financial inclusion, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) awareness, and literacy level among Kerala's Scheduled Tribes. An organized schedule and personal interviews with 348 respondents were used to gather the data. The approach of multistage purposive sampling was employed. The results from descriptive statistics and ANOVA show that as literacy levels rise, so does financial inclusion and awareness. Due to the fact that the majority of respondents fall into that category, it is evident that respondents with only a primary education and less than a secondary education have a greater understanding of PMJDY and financial inclusion. It is also clear that households with one or more graduates have a higher likelihood of being financially inclusive and conscious of their financial situation. Regional Disparities in Non-Performing Assets of Self- Help Groups: Analysing The NRLM-Bank Linkage Programme in Regions Of Uttar Pradesh
Get PDFThe Government of India started the NRLM bank linkage scheme to give financial assistance to the rural poor via Self Help Groups (SHGs). The study examines the non-performing assets (NPAs) of the bank linkage project of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in Uttar Pradesh. The findings indicate that, in comparison to Western Uttar Pradesh, the NPA levels of the NRLM bank linkage scheme in Eastern Uttar Pradesh are lower. The study highlights that there are various reasons such as insufficient loan monitoring and appraisal, insufficient SHG member training, and delayed loan disbursements that are responsible for the higher NPA ratios. Furthermore, the research indicates that Eastern Uttar Pradesh has a greater loan recovery rate in spite of somewhat poorer economic conditions and a higher frequency of natural disasters. Several policy implications for the NRLM bank linkage programme are also highlighted in the study. In addition to routinely providing training to SHG members to enhance their financial literacy and management abilities, the study makes the case for improved loan evaluation and monitoring in order to lower the risk of non-performing assets (NPAs)

Tribal Health Infrastructure and Performance in Odisha: A Critical Analysis

With life style changes, the earliest concept of complete biological, mental and social wellbeing is challenged and spiritual health is added along with the coping mechanism to address the health issues. In this context, tribal health is an area which is historically neglected. From literature surveys, it can be found that throughout the length and breadth of the state, and country, tribal health infrastructure and performances have been neglected, in both social infrastructure as well as physical infrastructure. But time has come to rectify the historical injustice being imparted to sections of society in providing all necessary healthcare benefits. This paper using secondary sources has found that tribal in Odisha has no basic infrastructure, mainly in some remote inaccessible areas. So citing authentic data from govt. reports, the paper suggests that a handful of measures can do the needful to the lot of the tribal such as relaxing the population-healthcare ratio, mobile health, community health officers etc. it also recommends further research on this area

No full textPhysical competence is an important indicator of motor skill level and health related fitness. This study, "Status and comparison of physical competence of 9-10 years male and School female children" was designed to assess the overall physical competence of both male and female children. To achieve the objectives of this study motor competence, cardiorespiratory endurance and torso strength were measured using CAMSA, 15 meter pacer test and plank, respectively.
Data was normal and t-test was applied. The results showed that male children were more proficient than female children in motor competence, cardiorespiratory endurance, torso strength.

Is the Financial Health of Urban Co-Operative Banks Sound? A Study Based on Altman Z-Scores
Get PDFThis study was initiated due to the recent bank scams in the co-operative banking sector in Kerala, which raised a need to prove the financial stability of Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) which are an integral part of the Indian banking sector. The financial soundness of sixteen UCBs in Kerala is assessed in this study over ten years from 2012-13 to 2021-22 using Altman Z scores, re-estimated Altman Z scores using Binary Logistic Regression (BLR) and Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network (MLPNN). BLR was used to classify banks into grey and distress zones, and MLPNN was used to identify non-linear relationships in the data. The study’s findings show that the re-estimated Altman Z score model using BLR exhibited high predictive accuracy in predicting distressed and non-distressed UCBs, therefore, it may be considered as a reliable tool for predicting financial distress in UCBs. The MLPNN model needs further improvement in the form of the inclusion of new variables which will be within the future scope of the research. The bank management and other stakeholders will be able to monitor the financial stability of UCBs with the help of the findings of the study
