Tribal Political Parties in Tripura: Agents of Democratic Consolidation or Fragmentation?
This article examines whether tribal political parties in Tripura, which saw their ascendancy in the aftermath of tribal insurgency, function as agents of democratic consolidation or democratic instability, ethnic divisions, and polarisation. It argues that these parties play a dual role in shaping the state's democratic processes—both deepening and undermining democracy. By providing the marginalised tribal communities a platform to articulate their political interests, tribal-centric parties have functioned to promote democratic inclusion and participation. On the other hand, they have also contributed to democratic fragmentation by accentuating ethnic cleavages and political polarisation. In the face of these two contrasting roles, the article contends that through accommodative responses by the state and the dominant societal groups, tribal political parties in Tripura can be transformed into positive agents of democratisation.
Exploring Long Run Relationship Between Gross Domestic Product And Stock Market Performance In India
The Financial Market plays a crucial role in making up a well-functioning financial system. It is made up of several sub-components, the Capital Market being one of them. The growth in the financial market stimulates growth in the financial system which in turn induces growth in the economy.
The economy of India has observed strong economic growth. For the Financial Year (FY) 2022-23, India’s GDP growth accelerated to 7.2% amid global uncertainties. It aided India to become the fifth-largest economy in the first quarter of FY 2022-23 leaving the United Kingdom behind, after withstanding repeated waves of COVID-19 pandemic shock. India has also recorded all-time high foreign exchange reserves of USD 645 billion in October 2021. The Indian Stock Market Index (BSE SENSEX) hit an all-time high and rallied to 62,245 points in October 2022 as well. Can this be described as a simple coincidence? These events motivated us to study whether the long run movement of Indian Stock Market Indices is due to the effect of select macroeconomic variables namely the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at Constant Prices and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at Current Prices. The study is conducted from the period 1995 to 2022, which incorporated BSE SENSEX and NSE NIFTY50 as the dependent variables to appear for the Indian Stock market and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) both at Constant Prices and at Current Prices as independent variables. The study applied simple linear regression analysis to report the findings of our research
Assessing Livelihood Security Through Forest Tenure: A Study of Santal Tribes in Bankura District, West Bengal
This study examines the impact of land tenure security under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006 on the sustainable livelihood outcomes of the Santal tribal community in Bankura district, West Bengal. Drawing on primary data from 208 forest-dwelling households—both recipients and non-recipients of Individual Forest Rights (IFR or ‘patta’)—and secondary sources, the research employs a Sustainable Livelihood Security Index (SLSI) and multiple linear regression analysis to assess ecological, economic, and social dimensions of livelihood security. While FRA title holders demonstrate enhanced economic security and stronger social capital through higher participation in Forest Protection Committees and community organizations, they lag in human and financial capital compared to non-FRA households. Regression results underscore the significance of legal land entitlement, income, livestock ownership, education, and forest dependence as key determinants of livelihood security. However, the majority of FRA beneficiaries underutilize their patta land, largely due to its non-arable condition and lack of institutional support. Despite its progressive intent, the FRA’s potential remains partially unrealized. The study highlights the need for integrated policy interventions focusing on capacity building, institutional coordination, and productive land use to fully harness the socio-economic benefits of the FRA and ensure long-term livelihood sustainability for forest-dependent tribal communities
The Wage Divide: Analyzing Wage Disparities between Contract and Permanent Workers
This study investigates wage differentials between formal and informal sectors in India's labour market, specifically focusing on the role of job contracts. Wage disparities, a critical issue in labour economics, have significant implications for socioeconomic inequality. While previous research has examined wage discrimination based on caste, gender, and productivity, limited attention has been given to the impact of employment contracts on wage inequality. Using unit-level data from the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) and the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), this study applies a dual labour market framework to explore how contract type and duration influence wage-setting mechanisms in formal and informal employment. The study reveals that permanent workers earn a consistently larger share of total wages than contractual workers, even as the total wages and workforce in both categories have grown. The findings underscore the role of contract terms in shaping wage disparities, with shorter-duration contracts linked to lower wages. This study contributes to policy discussions by offering insights into how job contracts exacerbate wage inequality and identifying targeted interventions to address these gaps. The results emphasise the need for regulatory reforms that reduce wage disparities, enhance equity in wage-setting processes, and improve labour market outcomes in India's segmented economy

Exploring Digitalization Persuasion and Negligence in Rural India: A Comprehensive Study
The current study examines the effectiveness and challenges of implementing technology in rural India under existing conditions. Launched in July 2015, the Digital India initiative aims to digitally transform India at the grassroots level by ensuring every citizen has internet access and can utilize digital platforms to access governmental programs and regulations. Anāpatti and Legal Exceptions: Early Buddhist Monastic Ethics and Modern Legal Frameworks
The Buddhist framework emphasizes the contextual nature of transgressions, recognizing that ethical violations cannot be assessed solely by their outcomes but must also consider the intention and circumstances of the individual. This understanding of moral responsibility provides valuable insights to contemporary legal ethics, particularly in the areas of professional accountability, conflict resolution, and restorative practices. Drawing from the Vinaya Piṭaka, this paper explores how ethical breaches were categorized, addressed, and resolved within the monastic community. By comparing the Buddhist concept of anāpatti with modern legal principles, the paper highlights how ancient philosophical insights can inform current debates on the ethical responsibilities of legal practitioners, the role of intention in determining culpability, and the integration of restorative justice into legal systems. This study highlights the enduring relevance of Buddhist ethical concepts in developing a more compassionate and context-sensitive approach to legal ethics
Bridging The Void: Social Work Interventions For Prolonged Grief Disorder In Covid-19 Bereavement
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated risks for Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD) due to traumatic deaths and disrupted mourning practices. This study examines the role of social work in mitigating PGD through pre- and post-death interventions and proposes scalable solutions for equitable bereavement care. Social workers are critical in addressing pandemic-related grief, yet global disparities in bereavement care persist. Policy reforms must prioritize workforce training, digital mental health infrastructure, and inclusive mourning practices to prevent a “shadow pandemic” of PGD
