Achieving Organizational Metamorphosis Through Developing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative

    Get PDF
Today’s workforce reflects and will continue to reflect diversity. If these changes represent America’s future demographic reality, organizations will undergo a massive metamorphosis. A questionnaire was submitted to 300 business students to assess their attitudes towards diversity. Specifically, it investigates whether there is a difference in attitude and assesses whether business students are open to working with an increasingly diverse workforce. The study’s results support the hypotheses that different ethnic groups value diversity differently, and that the more years living in a diverse country, the more individuals increase their diversity tolerance. Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives increase in popularity since they build awareness and skills that help cultivate a safe, compassionate, and equitable organizational culture where everyone feels valued. This article discusses implementing a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative to improve an organization’s culture. The five-step DEI Organizational Metamorphosis Model explores how to strengthen an organization’s quality of life through implementing strategic DEI initiatives

Evaluation of the Potential of AI to Foster Gender Diversity in Leadership Positions in Germany

    Get PDF
Women remain underrepresented in leadership positions in Germany. This article explores whether AI could support gender diversity in leadership. After analyzing current diversity data, we identified hurdles for women in leadership from literature. We evaluated AI’s potential to promote gender diversity through examples of AI tools from professional and private life. Four potential areas for AI assistance were identified: i) recruitment, ii) personalized time-management, iii) career development, and iv) networking and mentoring. These AI tools could particularly benefit women by addressing identified obstacles. The literature on this specific topic is limited, making this article a valuable foundation for further research

Managing in a Regressive Legal Environment: Employers Need to Stay the Course of Nondiscrimination

Federal law expanded civil rights and equal opportunity to all employees. Major U.S. employers have embraced the expansion by using affirmative action plans and diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. Concerns raised by a more conservative Supreme Court and its reversal of affirmative action in higher education, the recent enactment of regressive state laws aimed to diminish the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and invalidate affirmative action and DEI efforts should not be allowed to discourage the progress made. Employers can and should stay the course of expanded civil rights and equal opportunity in the workplace for all firm employees

Green Marketing or Greenwashing: How Consumers Evaluate Environmental Ads

    Get PDF
Over the past few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of cases related to greenwashing. This research investigates how consumers develop green skepticism to react to greenwashing practices. In two studies, we demonstrate that environmental ads (either vague or specific ads) are more effective in persuading weak-attitude consumers resulting in lower green skepticism than strong-attitude consumers. In contrast, strong-attitude consumers exhibit a backfiring behavior when presented with vague ads, evidenced by their higher level of green skepticism and lower WTP for products featured in the ads. More interestingly, specific ads are effective among strong-attitude consumers, lowering their green skepticism and increasing their WTP. Our research has theoretical and managerial implications for green marketing communication

Collaboratories: Designing Universal Innovation Ecosystems in the Era of Transitions

    Get PDF
This paper discusses the development of the Col.laboratori programme in Catalonia as a model for testing the theory of universal innovation ecosystems. This programme aims to address the challenges faced by societies in the current era of transitions by combining theories of techno anthropology, social innovation, and living labs. The authors propose collaboratories as crucial social innovations that can facilitate the absorption of changes and promote creative construction. These collaboratories are considered meta socio-digital innovation mechanisms that establish quadruple helix collaborative structures, bridging different actors, types of innovations, and diverse worldviews. To achieve a Just Triple Transition (social, green and digital), the paper suggests bringing together actors from business, academia, government, and society in collaborative processes that generate short-term optimal results and long-term synergies. This approach involves including society as the end-user in common tasks to ensure better design and higher-value outcomes. The paper advocates for a democratization of the innovation ecosystems, aiming for a broader distribution of social benefits through negotiated approaches focused on solving common challenges in pursuit of the common good

Trauma Education: A Reason for Hope

    Get PDF
Research from the CDC empirically proves that adverse childhood events (ACE) increase the likelihood of mental and physical health concerns. Many traumatic childhood events are avoidable if teachers, nurses, doctors, social workers, counsellors, lawyers, judges, and law enforcement understand the most recent domestic violence research and best practices for protecting children. Relevant domestic violence research and laws are discussed. Through changes to curriculum across disciplines, higher education could alter paradigms at the grass roots level and proactively reduce the number of traumatic events experienced by children. Suggestions are made for domestic violence topics and research to be included in courses
